SabresFanInRochester Posted April 4, 2009 Report Posted April 4, 2009 Did you see Avery's latest? With about 5 minutes left in today's Rangers vs Bruins game, Avery intentionally hits Thomas on head with his stick. It was during a tv timeout, and Thomas was stretching. Avery looks around to see if anyone is looking and then skates up behind him and clips Thomas. It certainly was not hard enough to injure, but it was definitely intentional, as well. What a POS! I hate that guy! On a completely separate note, none of the refs saw it, until it was replayed on the big monitor in the arena. It was at that point that they assessed the penalty. Is that legal?
JujuFish Posted April 4, 2009 Report Posted April 4, 2009 Who's this Avery guy? Don't mind Chrissy, he'll do what he can to make sure the Rangers miss the playoffs.

God I hate the Rangers
SwampD Posted April 4, 2009 Report Posted April 4, 2009 It was definitely a bush league move and I do think he should have been thrown out of the game, but you gotta admit, it is just a little bit funny.
phSabres84 Posted April 4, 2009 Report Posted April 4, 2009 The only thing important in that game was the outcome - Go Bruins!!!! :D It keeps B-lo's slight chance of playoffs hopes alive
SarasotaSabre Posted April 5, 2009 Report Posted April 5, 2009 It was definitely a bush league move and I do think he should have been thrown out of the game, but you gotta admit, it is just a little bit funny. um, no it's not funny - at all. How could you think that at all?
LabattBlue Posted April 5, 2009 Report Posted April 5, 2009 Avery should be in Bettman's office first thing Monday morning for a meeting where he is told that he is done for the year. What an a-hole.
SwampD Posted April 5, 2009 Report Posted April 5, 2009 um, no it's not funny - at all. How could you think that at all? um, 'cuz it is and I just do. If only for the reason that I can't believe that there is as big of a douche as Avery. And if that was the thing that finally got under Thomas' skin and allowed them to tie it up would it seem like a bad play then? Again, don't get me wrong, he is a douche, a really big one, but at least he is trying to win.
Supersabre Posted April 5, 2009 Report Posted April 5, 2009 All I have to say is good for Tim Thomas going after Avery.
Eleven Posted April 5, 2009 Report Posted April 5, 2009 Saw that yesterday & my first thought was that Avery clearly is not ready to be back in the NHL. Not sure that he ever will be.
FogBat Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 Avery should be in Bettman's office first thing Monday morning for a meeting where he is told that he is done for the year. What an a-hole. I knew that "leopard" wouldn't be able to change his spots...
Sabre Dance Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 Somewhere out there, there is a player who has even less class (and less regard for his fellow players) than Sean Avery. One day, Avery will go one step too far and this other player will take him out. It may be a slew foot, a shot to the head or a stick up the ***, but it will happen. Although my stomach turns as I think of it, I will be happy about it (if only for a few seconds). :o
FogBat Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 Saw that yesterday & my first thought was that Avery clearly is not ready to be back in the NHL. Not sure that he ever will be. He would make a great addition to the Hanson brothers line... <_<
Sabre Dance Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 He would make a great addition to the Hanson brothers line... <_< At least the Hansons would drop their gloves when challenged. This wonk thinks he is "smart" when he cold- someone and then turtles. As I said, there will come a day.....
That Aud Smell Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 um, 'cuz it is and I just do. while i regularly endorse kristian's customary "who's this avery guy" rejoinder -- there is a level on which i fuggin HATE sean avery -- HATE the guy ... and you know what? i sort of enjoy hating him. he's like the worst brand of heel (villain) in pro wrestling. but at the end of the day, i have to say, he's sort of fun to have around so that we can revile him, his douche-cosity, and his antics. also, my memory may fail me, does he also have a significant history of head shots, running people into the boards from behind, endangering people's careers, etc.? because if not, the stuff that he gets the press for is for just being a complete and total d*ck ... which, like i said, appeals to my inner 12 year-old's desire to hate a villain.

Avery's almost reached the buffoon level. I really dislike him, mostly because his "antics" give outsiders the wrong impression of what a hockey player is/should be. However, I really HATE (with a side order of revulsion) Chris Neil. He has no respect for his fellow players. He could end someone's career with the stuff that he does.

He's getting paid to act like a DB just like Ovechkin is paid to score goals. I find his actions completely inane and stupid, but extremely funny as well. ...and I find it hard to believe that Kaleta gets a lot of positive pub on this board and the same people seem to trash Avery. I'm sorry but if he's on your team, you love him and if he's not, you hate him.

I'm sorry but if he's on your team, you love him and if he's not, you hate him. Perhaps. When Barnaby was with Buffalo, I loved him. I don't see Barnaby at the same level as Avery or Neil. He was an agitator, but he was clean. The other guys mentioned are dirty players. Kaleta finishes his checks. Other teams might dislike him for that, but he's not a dirty player. I look at Boston's Lucic. That guy lights Buffalo up! But he is not a d-bag and he is clean. I completely respect that. To counter your point -- I love Kaleta for the game he plays. I HATE Avery.
That Aud Smell Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 The other guys mentioned are dirty players. I HATE Avery. this is the point i made earlier -- avery's earned his reputation as a complete and total douchebag, a-hole, and d*ck -- he chirps a lot, gets his elbows up a bit, does stupid sh*t to get under other player's skin (the thomas incident is a perfect example), acting like a clown to screen a goalie, talking crap about people's chronic diseases and his sloppy seconds -- but i don't know that he's earned a reputation for being dirty, say, like a chris neil. like i said, part of the reason i followed wrestling as a kid was because i frickin' hated the iron sheik and rowdy roddy -- i realize that a lot of purists would say "that's exactly the point -- why do we need wrestling's fakery in a game as simple and beautiful as hockey?" i don't think i have a good answer necessarily, other than to say it's still sort of enjoyable to hate the heel.
