wjag Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 Connolly with a really nice dive to push the puck across the line. That showed some desire, I've got to say. He is reminding us nearly every game what his potential is.. He has been a very good player since he's come back.
ThePebble19 Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 Talk about a blast from Pommers there. WOW. If only it would have gone in.
Eleven Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 It doesn't help that he has an incompetant partner in Tallinder though. That's the problem.
ThePebble19 Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 Oh Roy. You are the luckiest SOB ever. Because if either of those had cost us this game......................
wjag Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 Starting to feel like a SO... taking the season down to the wire here
wjag Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 OT WOW....WOW... Kovalchuk gets a breakaway after a Vanek turnover. Buffalo: :worthy: :worthy: Atlanta: :censored: :censored: :censored:
Eleven Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 Oh Roy. You are the luckiest SOB ever. Because if either of those had cost us this game...................... And then Vanek did it. Sonofabitch. At least it wasn't Kozlov.
rickshaw Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 Kovalchuk fanned on it. 4 points lost to Atlanta this year. Losing to teams below them has hurt this team all year long and the biggest reason we are DONE.
jwcolour Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 Well once again the never ending washing machine cycle of all my favorite sports teams blowing starts again..
sabresnutinphoenix Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 I feel like we've just lost a playoff series and should be shaking hands...
SabresFan526 Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 Stupid play by Vanek that may have just ended the Sabres season. That is such a high risk play with Kovalchuk in front of you. Why doesn't he just go around onto the backhand and just throw it deep into the zone? With under a minute left in OT, you've got one of the better shootout goalies and you turn it over at the blueline to one of the best players in the NHL. What a stupid play by Vanek. I can't believe it. It doesn't matter that he scored both Sabres goals when he makes a play like that. Absolutely awful. The season could have very well ended tonight and on that play by Vanek. Unreal.
ThePebble19 Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 I don't even know where to begin to start about that OT period. Those were 3 of the worst turnovers in that last 2 minutes that I have ever seen, coming from the two guys who have been 100% invisible for the last month. Certainly, Vanek had 2 goals tonight, but completely overshadowed by that completely worthless excuse for a pass. Less than 1 minute left in OT, you protect the puck, don't make mistakes and take the chance if it presents itself. Don't make errant passes, play smart. The only thing I can say, is that if we were going to lose, at least we got a point. Not that it means much unless FLA, NYR or MON go on a losing streak, but it is what it is. Tonight proves to be another example of why we are going to miss the playoffs. We come up big in the games we shouldn't win, and come up small in the games we should.
Stoner Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 Your best players have to be at their best at the biggest moments, and Vanek and Miller were not. The blame to Vanek, of course, but an elite goalie steps up there.

That being said, Miller's 5 hole was wide frickin open the whole time.
Cereal Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 I haven't seen a lot of games recently, but... The Sabres as a team seemed to be playing with a certain amount of desperation, but not intelligent at all. More like panicky I'd say. Vanek, Mac, Roy, others just wildly trying to make something happen by winging the puck toward net. Not taking the time to find the open guy, to get in position, or to cycle the damn puck like a good team. I just kept feeling sicker and sicker as that last PK and then OT went on.... knowing the end was near. Had they gotten the two points, my hopes would still be there, but they're not playing nearly good enough to even go something like 4-2 to close the season. At least the weather's getting nice, and hey, we've even got TO to look forward to! :death:
mrjsbu96 Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 they just don't deserve it...it is that simple. three days' of rest coming in to this game. i dont' care how well ATL is playing. you are playing a semi-home game, you should blow this team off the f'ing ice and they can't even get one even strength goal... *exhales* I just don't know how to continue to be a Buffalo sports fan.....ugh...ugh..ugh...f'ing ATL, NYI, OTT....on a careless giveaway no less..
RobnPam Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 Vanek and Roy have to be the worst stick handlers in Hockey!!!! Once again there fancy wanna be stick work turn to a turn over and we loose like a bunch of idiots. Who has a direct line to Ruff so we can tell them to put Max back on the ice andbench the other two idiots!!! They suck. Roy is good for absolutly nothing and all Vanek should be allowed to do is tip pucks... Game after game they try to stick handle and they NEVER succeed and always leads to a turnover and like tonight a game winning goal for the other team!!! Vanek SUCKS

Vanek SUCKS Without Vanek, it's a 2-0 loss rather than 3-2, but ok, he sucks, I guess. Still a stupid play. I think the team was pressing, and didn't want to go to a SO (that explains a couple of Roy's less-than-finer moves, too), and I don't exactly wonder why. Against Kovalchuk and Kozlov, both of whom kill the Sabres, and without Kotalik, it may just have been the strategy to press. It didn't work, but I think we all got an idea of what Kovalchuk would have done to Miller on a shootout breakaway....
FearTheReaper Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 Is it too much to ask for Ovie to score a hat trick on friday and put us out of our misery?
