Today was a power play practice and Ruff decided to switch up Tim Connolly and Dominic Moore. Connolly has turned the puck over more than he's created opportunities lately. Ruff pulled Connolly, Jason Pominville and Thomas Vanek aside for about ten minutes after practice. His message was that they were over playing situations and in order for Buffalo to win, they must be its best players.

I wasn't happy about Timmy's new contract when he seemed to be living up to his "point per game" reputation ... :wallbash:

I don't know, I thought it was moreso the other guys on the PP not doing their jobs. Timmy's a patient puck handler who waits for others to get open so he can create via the pass. To me, some (o.k., all) guys on the PP looked like they were either skating in mud, or were pre-occupied with where they were going after the game. Granted, Timmy's been under-performing just as much as everyone else, but it just seemed as if Timmy was forced into making plays on his own because everyone else was just standing around. This is strictly speaking about the PP though..... this said, it still makes sense to bring in Moore. He's just as good with the puck but is more likely to create on his own if and when needed. He'll go to the net, too, which we all know Timmy won't and frankly shouldn't.

That contract alone is enough to fire Darcy Regier once they are eliminated form the playoffs. He has no business keeping his job after that one. To think they could have possibly gotten something in return at the deadline is even more frustrating. Connolly is by far the most overrated player to ever wear a Sabres uniform.

Not that DR doesn't need to be let go if the Sabres miss the playoffs, but was Quinny pulling the puppet strings on this one? Keep in mind that it has been rumored that Quinny is good friends with the tinman's father. <_<

Where was Derek Roy when this conversation was going on?

He was at the kiddie table with Gerbe eating PB and J's with the crusts cut off.

Maybe Roy didn't need the talking to. Am I the only one who doesn't have a problem with the season Roy is having? He has been a little streaky but overall not a bad season.

You beat me to it.

When I think of Roy I keep hearing the opposing team yelling "Crap, f'er, you little Sh't" all the time.

As a whole, definitely don't have an issue. There have been some games where he thinks that he is better than he really is -- one-on-fours don't work even if you can use a drag move to get through the first two -- but he generally creates opportunities and plays well in both end. Like all offensively gifted players, he does try things that don't work all the time (that's why the NHL giveaway leaders list reads like a list of top offensive players: Ovechkin, Markov, Green, Roy, Richards, Malkin, Spezza, Thorton, Kovalchuk, ...), but when they do, he gets great scoring opportunities (again, not a problem when trying to make one or even two players looks stupid; not so much when trying it against four.)

He may have a bit of the "Napoleon Complex" when he tries the one on fours. Considering he signed the big contract, he has been able to avoid the drop off some others have gone through.

to me, i think roy looks like he is compensating for the rest. simply like he is trying to do too much on his own. maybe he's lost confidence in his teammates? at least he has the confidence or desire to try. imagine if a couple others would give the reckless effort he gives at times.

My point is that Lindy seems to have no rhyme or reason in terms of who gets called out. Roy has definitely had a good season, but he isn't immune from brain cramps at times.

Vanek-Connolly-Pommer is the #1 line, so they get the most attention. That's our three highest-paid skaters (i.e., not including Miller) starting next season and the guys most counted on to score. When on a line together, they have to produce or the team is in trouble. Roy is with Hecht, who is a marginal top-six forward having a bad year, and Stafford, who is a young player still trying to hit a consistent stride. Derek's line isn't the line. Certainly, Lindy could have talked to him (them), too, but he's going after the big line first.

This quote from Pominville is mind boggling...

He's a good coach, we enjoy playing for him, I think he's done a great job at keeping us positive and showing us ways that he thinks we can get better and help us win games. Pominville added, "He hasn't lost the team at all. He's a fun guy to be around, everybody on the team likes him. He's done a great job, he's been here for quite some time and I think the team had tougher times than there is now."

So let me sum it up...

1.He's a good coach

2.We enjoy playing for him

3.He hasn't lost the team

4.He's a fun guy to be around

5.Everybody on the team likes him

But barring a miracle, for the 5th time in 7 years you are going to miss the playoffs. Something has to change!

He forgot:

6. We (the players) suck.
