BamBam Posted March 22, 2009 Report Posted March 22, 2009 Here is a breakdown of points, and current win/loss streak. Not alot of room between 7-13. Sabres have the Best...er..worst win/loss streak going of the teams in front of them. I think its time to start pulling for some of these teams to win. 18 Buffalo Sabres 76 Lost 4 19 St Louis Blues 75 Won 1 20 Anaheim Ducks 74 Won 2 21 Minnesota Wild 74 Lost 1 22 Dallas Stars 74 Lost 3 23 Toronto Maple Leafs 73 Won 1 24 Ottawa Senators 72 Won 4 25 Los Angeles Kings 70 Lost 1 26 Phoenix Coyotes 67 Won 1 27 Atlanta Thrashers 66 Won 1 28 Colorado Avalanche 64 Lost 3 29 Tampa Bay Lightning 62 Lost 3 30 New York Islanders 56 Lost 2

Regier needs to draft as early as possible before all the soft defenseman and 5' 5" forwards are all gone. :wallbash:

LabattBlue Posted March 22, 2009 Report Posted March 22, 2009 Looks like we are playing for the coveted #1 pick...Haven't seen this much excitement since Pierre Turgeon!!! The Sabres have no shot at the #1 pick. Even if they win the draft lottery, the most the winning team can move up is 4 spots.

BamBam Posted March 22, 2009 Author Report Posted March 22, 2009 Found this link for those who are looking towards the draft. This may have been posted already. 09 Mock Draft
deluca67 Posted March 22, 2009 Report Posted March 22, 2009 . Found this link for those who are looking towards the draft. This may have been posted already. 09 Mock Draft 5' 10" is too tall for the Sabres. I'm sure they would target 5' 8" Jordan Schroeder. <_<

Buffalo Fan Posted March 23, 2009 Report Posted March 23, 2009 Brayden Schenn...I'm not afraid to dream
BamBam Posted March 23, 2009 Author Report Posted March 23, 2009 The link above appears to have been updated today. Now shows the Sabrs drafting 11. Suggests the following: Dmitry Kulikov Ht/Wt: 6.01/195 lbs Position: D Drafted From: Drummondville (QMJHL) Just for the hell of it...what do you think it would cost Buffalo to trade up to 1 and take John Travares?

darksabre Posted March 23, 2009 Report Posted March 23, 2009 Most, if not all, of their draft picks. I'd do it.

I do not want another D-Man named Dimitri. I don't care about the spelling its still the same name.
carpandean Posted March 23, 2009 Report Posted March 23, 2009 Most, if not all, of their draft picks. Start with Connolly and our first, then add picks until they agree. Tell them that they're getting an NHL-ready near point-per-game when healthy center and a mid-first round pick.
shrader Posted March 23, 2009 Report Posted March 23, 2009 I do not want another D-Man named Dimitri. I don't care about the spelling its still the same name. We drafted Keith Gretzky and he flopped, so I'm glad we never had anyone else from that family on our team.
inkman Posted March 23, 2009 Report Posted March 23, 2009 Most, if not all, of their draft picks. I don't think it would get done without Vanek. I do not want another D-Man named Dimitri. I don't care about the spelling its still the same name. Forget the Dimitri part, Kulikov is WAAAYYY too close to Kryukov. I shudder at the thought.
shrader Posted March 23, 2009 Report Posted March 23, 2009 Wait a second, I'm confused now. Did Eklund post this on his site or did BamBam actually offer an original thought? :o
nobody Posted March 23, 2009 Report Posted March 23, 2009 I don't think it would get done without Vanek. Exactly; Vanek would be demanded. A lesser chance Miller would be demanded. Forget all of this talk from Regier about Connolly was going to be the best Center option going into UFA over the summer. He is still not that much in demand that someone would think getting him included would be something great.
LabattBlue Posted March 23, 2009 Report Posted March 23, 2009 I don't think it would get done without Vanek. I agree. Start with Vanek or Roy, add a first round pick or two and you should be good to go.
carpandean Posted March 23, 2009 Report Posted March 23, 2009 What it would take will depend largely on where we are drafting. If we stay where we are and don't have much luck in the lottery, our first round pick isn't worth much and it would take a bigger named player (e.g., Vanek) to get it done. However, if we drop four or five spots (quite possible when you look at the standings and how this team is playing) and have a little luck in the lottery, the player part could be less. For example, if we end up 24th (drafting 7th +/-) and move up the maximum 4 spots, the question basically becomes: Evander Kane + ???? = John Tavares
BamBam Posted March 23, 2009 Author Report Posted March 23, 2009 Wait a second, I'm confused now. Did Eklund post this on his site or did BamBam actually offer an original thought? :o WOW! Nice one. Every once in awhile I can just happen to throw something out there.
jimiVbaby Posted March 23, 2009 Report Posted March 23, 2009 I agree. Start with Vanek or Roy, add a first round pick or two and you should be good to go. Can I vote for Roy and not Vanek? Hmm.. Roy 1st and a 3rd for Tavares? Done. Not going to happen though.
carpandean Posted March 23, 2009 Report Posted March 23, 2009 Can I vote for Roy and not Vanek? Hmm.. Roy 1st and a 3rd for Tavares? Done. Not going to happen though. Does it have to be the one player that we are actually underpaying? Yes, I know, stupid question; you have to give something to get something. He has more value because he is underpaid, but at $4 million, he is such a great deal; probably the best that Darcy has made post-lockout. I'd almost rather give up Vanek. Tavares would be about $4 million as well (including bonuses; based on Tavares and other recent #1's.) That $3 million + in cap and $2.4 million + in salary saved (vs. Vanek) could go a long way toward upgrading other positions. Obviously, I'd rather not give up either of them. Again, though, you can't just say "plus a first" because the range in values from 2nd to 18th (my estimated range from a terrible finish + good lottery luck to a great finish + bad lottery luck) is huge.

For example, if we end up 24th (drafting 7th +/-) and move up the maximum 4 spots, the question basically becomes: Evander Kane + ???? = John Tavares The only other comparable situation I can think of was the whole Lindros ordeal. Ignoring the fact that the deal came well after to draft thanks to daddy, you'd have to think a similar package might be needed. That whole deal started out with Forsberg (6th overall in the same draft as Lindros) and 2 first round picks in the following drafts. Throw in 6 more players (a lot of value there too), future considerations and cash (no longer allowed) and that was the entire deal. Then again, given that this is a very different marketplace now, it wouldn't approach the size of that deal. Involving a proven 40 goal scorer like Vanek definitely changes that. Add in this year's and next year's 1st round pick and it would seem like a good enough package. The team with the #1 overall pick would obviously be a factor, specifically a Canadian one, but it doesn't look like that will happen. How strange would it be if it is again Quebec (Colorado) who falls into this situation where they could bring in a ton of value by moving a guy like Tavares? Also, looking back on that Lindros deal and the one with the Rangers that was overturned. They were absolutely absurd. Beezer, Kovalev, Amonte, Weight, 3 1st round picks and cash for Lindros? I had forgotten just how crazy that whole situation was.
