Buffalo Fan Posted March 19, 2009 Report Posted March 19, 2009 ?Sometimes the teams not in the playoffs are the hardest teams to play.??Sabres center Derek Roy What?? Are you f-ing kidding me? That's it Derek, think small play small.
SwampD Posted March 19, 2009 Report Posted March 19, 2009 Here's another one. ?We haven?t dealt well with some adversity in games. I think guys got scared,? Ruff said Wednesday while replaying the 4-2 defeat to Ottawa. ?They saw a loss coming again, and we got on our heels, and it?s tough to pull out of that.? Scared?....oof. How about coaching them out of it? It's oviously a recurring problem...unless he's coaching scared as well.

Yeah, what happened to the days when players were more scared of what the coach was going to do to them in the locker room than anything that could happen on the ice.

Nobody has more respect for Lindy than I do but he offers his team an excuse in that quote. "...and it's tough to pull out of that." Never thought I'd say it, but it's time for Lindy to go. And I love the guy. GO BILLS!!!

That's it Derek, think small play small. I heard that quote and the first time it just passed me by. Seeing it again, I am doing a double take: THE SABRES AREN'T IN THE FREAKIN' PLAYOFFS! BUT THEY HAVE A WHIFF OF IT. TEAMS LIKE THAT SHOULD BE DOUBLY TOUGH TO PLAY! All caps off

That's it Derek, think small play small. All that means is that teams not making or fighting for a playoff spot play a much more loose game and can take chances while teams fighting for a spot do not. I would rather criticize and care what they do on the ice as opposed to what they say. Which is more important?

Yes, we are now getting into the analytical phase...

I'm sure Derek was referring to teams out of the playoff hunt (Ottawa, Toronto, Islanders, Atlanta, Tampa, etc.) As I showed the first time someone posted this quote, those teams have some of the best "last ten" records of the teams in the East. Obviously, though, it doesn't explain why they've had a tough time with these teams all season.
rickshaw Posted March 19, 2009 Report Posted March 19, 2009 The most frustrating part of all of this........................The Sabres would cause serious damage in the playoffs, I really believe that. And we've all seen them when they get on a playoff roll and are underdogs. Alas, it's not gonna happen.

Yeah I think one of the most disheartening facts is the Sabres' record against these lesser teams, especially as we get down to crunch time. Every time they get in a position to make a move in the standings, and a bottom 10 team (CORRECTION: a fellow bottom 10 team) comes up on the schedule, they seem to take a swan dive....I question the character because of quotes like this AND actions.

FWIW, if Ottawa ripped off five or six wins in a row and got considerable help, they could be right back in it. Also, FYI either Toronto or Ottawa or both could catch the Sabres. The discrepancy in points does not warrant fans of "playoff contender" Buffalo being at a loss for how their team lost so many points to "doormat" Ottawa.

BuffalOhio Posted March 19, 2009 Report Posted March 19, 2009 What happened to the high-flyin' Sabres? Why did we all of a sudden change to defensive shell mode? Was it to stop giving up scoring chances? It ain't working. Go back to the high risk, HIGH REWARD style of play that worked for two straight years. We don't have the size, the grit, or the determination to play the defensive shell game. Besides, the shell sucks, and our guys are terrible at it because they can't clear the damn zone.

Tried it last year, didn't work. Hasn't worked since the old NHL returned, and it won't work now, especially not with this roster. You're right that the team isn't built for defense, but it's not good enough to light teams up either. We lost two good centers after 07, and Regier in his wisdom decided to replace them with guys from the farm. Not surprisingly, that didn't work out well. We're not very good defensively or offensively. We're average all around, which translates to 9-12 in the conference.
