Foligno's Nose Posted March 19, 2009 Report Posted March 19, 2009 I feel this team needs another 'face'. A leader. A player to set next to Vanek as the now and future. Keep it reasonable. I would give the house for Kovalchuk, but I don't see it as the least bit rational. A forward is necessary. Dustin Brown is my choice. Hits. Shots. Scoring. Leadership. Instant Captain. Give them whatever else they want. I feel he could make a difference. Build around him and TV. On defense, Duncan Keith from Chicago. It would be a luxury beyond the top six forward. Super talented. Can the Hawks afford to keep him with all their other talent? Unrealistic? This team needs an infusion of some new blood. Starting with Kotalik's exodus, there are many more to jettison. Don't forget to put your two cents in over at the 'Who do you NOT want back next year?' thread. Something's gotta give...and somebody(s) have to go. No offense, just business. Wait - no offense - that's the biggest problem to rectify. What happened to this annual 'top-five-in-goals-for' team??? (amongst other problems)

You would have to seriously overpay to even get the Kings to consider trading Brown. He is under contract for 4 more years with a cap hit of only 3.1 mil(compare that with Gaustad and his 2.3 mil cap hit), is only 24 years old and is the kind of player a team builds around, not trades away.

Observing Tampa yard sale (disaster this year), now the Leafs yard sale. There are teams going bareback; likely not to be a cup winner tomorrow, but should be fun to watch. I like the arguement of whether the Sabres are content being competitive or being a cup winner. Reflecting on the Devils and Red Wing footprints over the years, is it a matter of the charector of players like Draper, Maltby, McCarty or Brylin, Madden, Pandolfo? Grinding foundation guys with off season free-agent or deadline plug-ins? I am happy with 2 scoring lines, a checking line and the fourth line being whatever..... I hate this 12 minutes a game crap for your franchise guys
bleedblueandgold Posted March 19, 2009 Report Posted March 19, 2009 I'd like to see Shane Doan. He's a #1 center that we absolutely have to have........
carpandean Posted March 19, 2009 Report Posted March 19, 2009 I'd like to see Shane Doan. He's a #1 center that we absolutely have to have........ Is he a center or a right wing? He's listed pretty much everywhere as a RW. They may have tried him at center (in 2002-03 he took over 600 hundred faceoffs, but has taken substantially less every year since.) He's back up to just over 300 this year, but that's nowhere near what a top-line center would take (Roy has taken almost 1300; even Gaustad has taken almost 700 despite being injured.) I'm guessing he is a center on the power play unit or something like that. Either way, though, would Phoenix really trade away their captain?
