BetweenThePipes00 Posted March 27, 2009 Report Posted March 27, 2009 HD? Really??? C'mon guys, get a grip on reality. I don't live in Buffalo anymore and all I gotta do is shell out $160 a season and I can watch my team!!! The team I grew up with. I MOVED AWAY AND CAN STILL WATCH THE SABRES. No HD? Big damn deal. This is how I feel about it ... we all live all over the country and we can watch the Sabres any time we want for less than $3 per game ... and this is somehow a bad deal? I understand a little frustration with the HD thing but there are liek 15-20 Ci feeds every night ... that's going to cost more money. the option of paying $200 instead of $160 for the HD would be nice, I agree. But overall, this thread shows how spoiled we are ... 10 years ago we'd be happy to get a 15 second highlight on Sportscenter and the box score in the USA Today. Reminds me of this ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LoGYx35ypus ... ....YESand why the hell do they not show the post game shows?.....final score...click...done off!.. c'mon On DirecTV, If you have the regional sports package, they do not shut off the postgame shows. yeah, more money ...
frisky Posted March 27, 2009 Report Posted March 27, 2009 I get CI every year on DirecTV. I think it's great. I can get to watch every pitiful loss. As for HD, hasn't been a concern. If you don't have an HDTV, problem solved. Just get a regular tube-o-vision ha ha. However, the Sunday Ticket package on the other had is MUCH pricier. If there were one that I would axe, it would be that one. You can also get get NFL on XM with an a la carte subscription, or the NHL on Sirius the same way. Provided they stay in business for much longer which is definitely an IF this year.
bflobarry Posted March 27, 2009 Report Posted March 27, 2009 Why would you cancel CI at this point? Do they give you back like $18 for the 9 remaining Buffalo games? Besides, you're bitching about CI and I would love your set up, since I end up watching some portion approaching 50% of the games with the other teams feed. Wow. Was I "bitching about CI"? I thought I was giving other fans a heads up to save $ by watching the regional networks vs CI. Turns out that I was wrong: you only get the regionals w/ CI (who knew?). As far as cancelling now, I cancelled now b/c I had already paid for the whole year anyway, and I thought I'd still get all the Sabre games on MSG. And they start billing you months out before next season, so I didn't want to forget to cancel. Is that OK w/ you? Jeez....I called today to cancel my cancel....

The deal with the Sabres, in particular with NHL Center Ice is related entirely to - you guessed it - our dear friends at MSG!!!!! The short of it is that MSG, in their on-going dispute with the NHL related to their website and other "new media", never gave permission for the NHL to include the HD versions of Islanders, Sabres, Rangers, and Islanders games. Those of us on DirecTV avoided this curse (for a little while) because DirecTV used their "HD Access" excuse to continue to include MSG HD feeds as part of the Center Ice Package. (HD Access for DirecTV says that if you pay them $10 per month then you'll get HD versions of anything you subscribe too). This past January, MSG caught up with this and forced DirecTV to stop. As for the future of a Western NY only network, I think it's unlikely to happen. The Sabres current deal with MSG runs through 2016-2017. As nice a Fox Sports Western New York would be (since Fox Sports is one provider that isn't connected to any cable company and therefore makes their programming available to anyone who will pay for it - unlike Comcast SportsNet) I find it extremely unlikely. Time Warner Cable Sports Network would be a more logical partner since it's already in place - but with a ten year agreement, I highly doubt it.
