bigtalljoe Posted March 18, 2009 Report Posted March 18, 2009 I moved to Florida in 1996 from Buffalo, and i have been subscribing to NHL Center Ice ever since, but this may be my last year. The games are never in HD, and the price keeps increasing. And to be honest do i really want to watch 82 Sabre games next year?....The way they have been playing id rather play halo 3.

I would get CI if more games were in HD. TWC just added one game a day thats in HD which is not enough. If the game is broadcast in HD, I should be getting with the CI package.

A couple of years ago I dropped Center Ice but added satellite radio. It reminds me of growing up - all the games on the radio and between VS and NHL Network 10 or so games on tv. Plus alot more from the radio in addition to hockey.

I do agree with more on the sat radio and thats why I have Sirius for NFL and had XM for hockey after sirus dropped NHL

Ohiofan Posted March 19, 2009 Report Posted March 19, 2009 HD? Really??? C'mon guys, get a grip on reality. I don't live in Buffalo anymore and all I gotta do is shell out $160 a season and I can watch my team!!! The team I grew up with. I MOVED AWAY AND CAN STILL WATCH THE SABRES. No HD? Big damn deal.

The HD issue is really between MSG and the NHL. Why couldnt we have a buffalo sports net station that only cares about buffalo sports ala Empire originally was
Chief Enabler Posted March 20, 2009 Report Posted March 20, 2009 I get really pissed when I sit down after dinner, after a long day and the little guy has been put to bed. Wifey asks if there is a game on tonight, I say yes. Grab the remote and find out IT'S NOT ON!!!!!!! :wallbash: NHLTV or whatever, and after loss after loss when they count is infuriating. Comcast is useless over. Well, Comcast is abit useless in general. Well, I think all cable companies just rape you. Does anyone pay up to $150 per month? (HD, internet, no premium channels) silly IMO.

Foligno's Nose Posted March 20, 2009 Report Posted March 20, 2009 Ask Mr. Rigas in his jail cell. I think he had something to do with it. :death: Sad, It has been just over four years since the Empire Sports Network shut down despite interests to keep it alive from interested parties. Amongst all the other crap Buffalo sports fans deal with, this was the greatest injustice to us all. When I got home from work, FanTV was on as background noise on one of the TV's in the house every day. The Sabres coverage, games, pre and post shows, replays, Hockey Hotline, etc... Local college sports coverage The Empire Sports Report - who watched or needed the Channel 2, 4 or 7 three minute news sports reports. Anybody? The station was more than just another venue for Ed Kilgore to flaunt his extensive turtleneck collection. The largest injustice was dealt to the area high school sports teams that received excellent coverage via the ESN. What a loss for them. Hopefully the future may hold a local sports channel again for the deserving fans of all Buffalo sports. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Empire_Sports_Network
Foligno's Nose Posted March 20, 2009 Report Posted March 20, 2009 And what the hell is the ignorance to the HD broadcasting of all NHL games. If Gary Bettman was serious about selling this game to new fans or generating more revenue from existing fans, HD broadcasts of all NHL games is a no-brainer. Anybody who has had the luxury of seeing the NHL in true HD knows what I am talking about. The fact that Center Ice subscribers do not get to see the high percentage of games in HD is a crime. This should be this league's primary campaign to produce and broadcast all it's games in HD and make them available to all who are interested in seeing the game and especially those who shell out big bucks for their CI subscriptions. Wake up or get lost Gary. You short little scar on hockey!

LexLuthor871 Posted March 22, 2009 Report Posted March 22, 2009 What annoys me is that the NHL won't do what the NBA does: Give you Free Online access to all the games with the purchase of the tv package.

I got the CI package and its fun watching the games at the end of the season bc they mean so much.

Two or less Posted March 26, 2009 Report Posted March 26, 2009 I get center ice package as well and i love it. I love the sport and when the Sabres are not on, or after a Sabres game, it's always cool to catch a game.
bflobarry Posted March 26, 2009 Report Posted March 26, 2009 I paid for Center Ice all year and never used it once. All of the Sabres games are on Directv ch #638 MSG, so you can buy the regional sports pkg and get them all (at least in Tampa, where I am) Much cheaper than Center Ice.

The death of that channel (and it's sister WNSA) was and still is a travesty. Eventually, we will get either a Comcast Bflo or, more likely, a Fox Buffalo; but it won't be nearly the same as Empire was. I paid for Center Ice all year and never used it once. I had a really good rant set up for this post, but it appears you are claiming to get all the NHL games (at least Stateside) over the regional sports channels. If so, good for you. But I wouldn't mention that to my satellite provider if I were you. ;)

They don't black out the Hockey games?? I remember a few years back when Empire was still broadcasting, it was a channel included with DirectTV and when the Sabres games came on, they would black them out (in Florida). I thought for sure I was going to get the games for free, but I was sadly mistaken. Must be a different scenario for you or something.

I am not 100% certain, but pretty sure they are coming thru on the regionals BECAUSE you have CI. No CI, no games come thru on the 600s.Think they originally did that cause those stations are in HD anyway, and this freed up some spectrum for other HD options. Again, I am just guessing here. Course, now with some kind of pissin match going on between MSG and D*, doesn't really make much of a difference does it!

It must be b/c I just called to cancel CI on Monday. Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks for the heads up. Why would you cancel CI at this point? Do they give you back like $18 for the 9 remaining Buffalo games? Besides, you're bitching about CI and I would love your set up, since I end up watching some portion approaching 50% of the games with the other teams feed.
