Team Strike Force Posted March 18, 2009 Report Posted March 18, 2009 After watching this team implode in the face of a stretch run to the playoffs twice, I'd have to say slim. I know that actual elimination is still a little ways off in terms of mathematics, but they look done right now. The teams they are chasing seem to realize that they are in a playoff race and will not have nights with 10 or whatever shots on goal. Just last week I still believed they would make the top 8. Now they need to go on a very nice run and they have not shown us any hint of that since January. This is not a team of men, who rise to the occasion. They are boys, complete with the snails and puppydog tails. And someone has unleashed an avalanche of salt. We get to watch them shrivel.

The blame doesn't fall on Lalime or Tellqvist but on the team as a whole. If Miller comes back will that rejuvenate the team again? I hope so...

Sadly I have come to the realization that they are destined to fail. I hate it too! I had such high hopes the whole year. No one even lays a check anymore I watched Paille pull up twice tonight. He is not Gretzky he needs to play the body. Moore? For crying out loud he is like watching roy with out any skill. He wouldn't be worth 1.5 he should have took Buerkys $$. Sorry for the rant/

QFT I never give up on the team until it is mathematical, but I'm not seeing anything that makes me think that it will happen. Right now, it's a three way fight between the Sabres, Florida and Carolina to see who can fall farthest. Through 70 games played, we are somehow still just two point behind both of them and Carolina only got one in their 71st game, so in theory we could be within one through 71. Plus, we have head-to-heads with each, which again in theory could put us even with each and possibly ahead of Carolina. I don't know how that is still possible at this point. If I had seen any glimmer of life since the Florida game, I'd actually be encouraged, but if it weren't for the failings of others, we'd have been out weeks ago. Scary thought of the day: I believe that it is more likely that Ottawa will pass us in the standings than we will pass Carolina and Florida.

Watching the way they play... i'll give them a 18% chance of making it. Only because the other teams they need to hop over are also sucking.

It's true. If the Sabres were to theoretically win out (with 2 caveats: the Florida game must be a regulation win and the Carolina game must also be a regulation win if we can't beat them out in season goal differential), then they would be guaranteed an 8th seed. But please don't respond with an angry retort. I have ZERO faith that the Sabres will make the playoffs. I'm just pointing out an interesting fact.
