Just more support for the "burn the damn slugs in a dumpster behind the arena" movement.

I'm in on that movement as well. Was thinking about it tonight that I really hope they just switch over totally next year.

Rob Ray has got to be the worst announcer I've ever heard in my life. He's completely unlistenable. Just another example of Sabres' organizational curse of homerism and sticking with the wrong guy for way too long.

Arghhhhhhhhh!!!!!!

I wouldn't go that far. I actually like Ray.

Carolina also lost tonight. Things are looking much better after our bad spell, but i agree with darksabre, i don't think we have what it takes. They must go on a pretty solid winning streak from here on out to make it.

Even though they won, I felt really frustrated watching this game. Lalime did a great job and he was the only guy that really stood out. The Panthers had so much more puck control and the Sabres just couldn't seem to get any kind of flow. There's very little cohesiveness on the ice. Oh well, it's a win, and it makes my last game of the year still meaningful on Saturday so I am happy with that. Thanks Dallas and thanks a lot for blowing your lead Columbus...At least you didn't totally mess up. Isles in Montreal? Maybe Gainey is choking on his smoked meat after that one...

That, to me, is the sign of a guy who needs to ride off into retirement. Sounds like he either can't be bothered to read the game notes/stats beforehand or is unable to retain the information and recall it on demand anymore, so maybe it's time for someone to have a "courageous conversation" with him and tell him he probably shouldn't be in the booth any longer.

As much as I miss Batman in the booth with RJ, Jim Lorentz knew when to call it quits. I've never cared for Harry Neale's style since I heard he was going in the booth, and it just sounds so annoying to listen to him.

There's not much else he can do between sips.

:D -- Comments like this are the reason I love this board and keep coming back..

i dont either.....this is what this team does, wins a game they need to then lays an egg and the games they SHOULD win, hence they are out of a playoff spot.

Better teams dont lose game like the sabres do, you cant be ottawas bitch all season, you cant lose to those kinds of teams, those are point you need.

Well, thanks to DirecTV and the GD HD issues they are having with MSG, my DVR recorded the wrong channel and I missed the entire game. Nevertheless I'm quite happy with the win. And those 3rd jerseys are just outstanding.

Here's a request: could someone post the forward lines and defense pairings the Sabres used last night?

Here's another one: can the Sabres please not soil the bed on Sat. night vs. Atlanta?

Go Sabres.

Unfortunately Atlanta has seemed to find their stride as of late and despite the Sabres blowing them out a few times, they (Thrashers) seem to show up against Buffalo.

Or rather, the Sabres seem to consider them "easy points", hence they (Sabres) don't show up.

You know that you nailed my view of this years squad when you said this. I think this has plague the team for the last two years. Yes there are moments (albeit uncommon) that they show cohesion but in reality it doesn't happen enough. We have trouble getting it out of our zone. We never appear to be in control in the offensive zone. Even when we keep it in there for long periods of time, it just seems that we are rushing to the puck and we don't have a master plan.

We'll see who's stronger: you or the third jerseys.

Your record: 1-8

Thirds' record: 9-2

Should be an interesting battle.

I'll be teaching tonight tonight, so at best, I will catch the end. Otherwise, I will be watching it on tape.

Thirds win! Now 10-2 on the season!

That's interesting. I wonder if the slug is a reminder of losing Drury and Briere and if the classic logo is, oddly, seen as the future, a fresh start? Or maybe it's just a statistical anomaly.

That problem goes at least 10 years back though, and the ECF teams were also horrendous at clearing their own zone.

We've always had trouble on the PK, and in situations where other teams forecheck agressively.

That's just our style of play, apparently.

I have to wonder if it's one of those things were we as fans always seem to think it's worse for our team, than for anyone else, or we're just really really crap at clearing the puck :P

How so?

Two points behind Florida with equal wins and a head-to-head game means that if the Sabres win the head-to-head and both teams win all their other games (or otherwise have the same records in their other games), the Sabres are ahead by the tie-breaker (wins.)

Three points behind Carolina with two games-in-hand and a head-to-head, means that if the Sabres win the head-to-head and their two games-in-hand, and both teams win all of their other games (or otherwise have the same records in their other games), the Sabres are ahead in points.

So, basically, if the Sabres win out, they cannot finish lower than 8th, no matter what Florida or Carolina do. Thus, they control their own destiny again.

Precisely. It should be noted that the head-to-head with Florida would need to be a regulation win.

10-2-0 vs. 10-10-2 is a statistically significant difference (using difference in proportion of available points earned; though, admittedly a slight abuse of the method because of the two OTLs, but close enough) down to a 2.8% level (highly significant.) However, as you say, it could just be an anomaly (significant does not mean impossible; just highly unlikely.) I won't tempt the hockey gods by claiming otherwise.

Yes, but against Carolina, the Sabres can win in OT and still take the lead.

Great. So to remain in control of their own destiny, the Sabres - a team whose longest winning streak this season is four - have to run the table over their last 14 games. No sweat.

No, there's also my point about "or otherwise have the same record in their other games." Neither Carolina nor Florida will win out, either. The point is that if the Sabes can win those two head-to-head games (something that they control), then they have at least the 8th highest potential points (points earned + remaining points available.) So, technically, they don't need help. Of course, if Caroline or Florida wins out the rest of its games, it would force the Sabre to do likewise in order to keep their control. But, any point that those two teams fail to get would be a point that the Sabres can afford to not get and still maintain control. It's an extremely fine line, for sure.

Must be you live in the real world with me. I'll be looking for you sometime.

Let's not forget that human beings tainted this experiment. A person, probably LQ, decided which games the Sabres would wear their third sweaters. Was this person trying to pick games he or she (edit: have no idea why I put she in there!) thought the Sabres would win?
