Pommer

Lindy like a R shot on the point, we have rivet and teppo, teppo sits so he uses pommers.

Does NHL tracked shots taken that are blocked, Pommers has to be up there with those.

The more i think about it the more i think hes a poor mans andreychuk, he cant really skate, is decent around the net. Andreychuk obviously was much better, HOF with 500 goals, pommers wont touch that.

We've seen him skate fairly well in the past, so I tend to be in the camp that believes he's dealing with some sort of nagging/lingering injury and didn't just forget how to skate.

Has anyone else noticed that Pommer NEVER, EVER looks to shoot first from the point on the PP? The second he gets the puck, every single, friggin time, he looks to dish it off. He doesn't even LOOK for the shot or to get it on the net, always looks to dish off, right away. This is a problem b/c it makes us much easier to defend against, not having to worry about that shot. He will shoot, but only after multiple passes, and only if no one else is close to open. I've seen this all year, and it is really obvious. Watch for it, and you'll see what I mean. I'm sure that the other teams have scouted this and take advantage of the non-threat from him at the point. Very frustrating.....

Yeah, I heard that. FWIW I've never heard from anyone that they've regretted it.

And thanks for the commando calves picture in my head now.

No one has ever regretted going commando because their luggage is 300 miles away?

Curious comparison.....

I can't think of any similarities in their games that stand out ...

as may have been implied by your reply, x., i think that's because there aren't any, and the comparison ain't curious, it's specious.

PA has theorized that something isn't right with #29 (his prediction is an undiagnosed/undisclosed sports hernia) -- the more i think about it, the more i think it's a theory with merit -- the kid has always had a knack for getting open and finding a shooting lane and will finish tops on the team in shots this year -- but that shot of his (one that miller had called one of the "heaviest" he faces throughout the league (whatever that means)) just isn't doing what it's done in the past -- seems to me that such a (yuri and) drop-off is more than a product of mere contract-nerves and/or bad luck -- an injury like that would also explain this perception from posters like patty16 that pominville can't skate -- ask daniel alfredsson circa may 2006 if our guy can't get up and down the ice.

yes i knew someone was going to dig up the only real example of pommers skating, his one goal against ottawa.

Hes not a great skater, i dont think his skating has declined this year as to explain his decrease in production.

And as with Andreychuk.... really? Two guys who are slow, not nimble, but still managed ways to score by parking themselves around the net. Thats the comparison, i am NOT saying they are the same all around play, just those characteristics.

Pommers will never be a good skater, hes slow and not agile, but his game isnt speed or fancy moves, hes good arond the net and not effective when hes not.

It really boggles my mind that some of you out there think hes a decent skater with speed. Watch him on any given night, he routinely gets caught from behind.

That being said i think he can be effective, but this just isnt his year, it happens, if he gonna be on this roster we need him to regain his form next year.

Compared to Andreychuk's skating the guy is Dorthy Hamel.

Andreychuk was the one of the great garbage goal scorer of our lifetime - Pominville usually has beaten goaltenders clean.

Though I don't think he's got blazing speed....he's a very controlled skater with great vision and has a very nice talent to release to find the open shot...and it is hard to ignore how many goals he's scored on the rush over the last few years.

My guess is he's battled some kind of wrist problem - hairline fracture or maybe some kind of tendinitis.

He's still getting open (even playing 2nd line most of the year), but missing shots he always just buried.

i don't think we actually disagree materially on pominville's skating -- for example, i agree with the first sentiment above, and, as corrected, agree with the second one as well. i'm not saying the guy can fly, but he moves well enough, and, more importantly, picks and times his spots very well.

So who is going to go back through the tapes and see when and where he injured himself. Carp?
