Ruff or Regier or Both??

What's Tommy G think about this? It's over. Do you fire both Ruff and Regier or only one and which one?

Where do they go from here? Sign a big off season free agent and build around them? Or is the salary cap already filled up?

When your franchise goaltender goes down, everybody gets a free pass.

Not if they miss the playoffs for the second straight year and fifth time in the last seven.

Goaltending hasn't been the biggest factor in the collapse.

It has to be both.

This franchise is begging for both.

After the loss to the--I think--Islanders, Ruff didn't come out for post game interview and sent out James Patrick instead. That seemed strange to me. I think he almost wants to be fired

I'd say that Regier gets the axe first, but at some point the media is going to start chirping about Lindy.

Something has to change

Agreed.

They will have no cap room unless they move someone. As for Reiger or Ruff, ask yourself, does Lindy have the right players? If no then the answer is both because a new GM will want his own coach. If you think they have the right players, you fire the coach.

By the way, the season isn't over. They can turn it around in an instant.

I think Ruff is burned out or something, And I don't think Regier will be missed. Not sure how I feel about his Regier's overall job. Such a long history to think back through, all the way back to Peca and Hasek.

They would have to play like they did to start the season, I guess. I guess that could happen

Come on, fire Reiger??? Just look at all the difference makers he has brought in at the trade deadline in his years. Then throw in all the big name free agents he gets in here during the off season. But in all reality, Tom G is completely clueless when it comes to hockey and LQ whispering sweet nothings into his ear is all he has to go by. This organization is completely dysfunctional from top to bottom.

I bet you absolutely nothing changes. Both will be here. We will not do much this offseason. But, we will be a lot younger next year I bet. And, next year's excuse will be that we have lots of young players that we need to wait to develop. It's an endless carousel of losing. Year after year.

Possibly, but not necessarily.

I just don't know where to point the finger anymore. (Although I had one pointing at the TV screen somewhere around the 4th goal...) An argument can be made that Regier was pretty good pre-cap, and he usually does get the best of a trade, even if he has to wait until the cows come home before making the deal. Is it higher up than DR? Is LQ or TG meddling? I don't know.

I hope that's not true but I can't argue that its not

I agree, I think Lindy has seen enough . He may walk. A change of scenery might do him good.

What was so sad was how disinterested they looked tonight. I am a big Ruff fan but I just don't know anymore. These guys are way too comfortable.

I said to the wife during the game that I think there needs to be a change of scenery. I think Lindy is a good coach but I don't think this team is responding anymore. I think they need a new coach and I've always felt that DR (Niles) needed to go. Too bad we can't get rid of LQ, I just look at him and there's is just something that screams inside of me not to trust a word the guy says (like a smiling cobra).

If Darcy does get fired, I bet we will have a long thread discussing this strange guy that has run our team for so long.

I get the feeling TG doesn't meddle at all. That's just a feeling

This has been an extremely frustrating year. This team just doesn't have the talent to be much more than a middle of the road team. The Sabres have one superstar in Vanek, and then the rest of the team consists of serviceable second liners. Stafford, Connolly, and Roy are all second line players but not elite stars in the NHL. There's just not enough talent on this team and guys like Pominville and Hecht have been humongous disappointments this year. Can they turn it around? I guess they could, but they've been absolutely awful this year. And, while I guess Pominville can be a serviceable second line player as he has proven to be in the past, Hecht is nothing more than a third line grinder and his stats have been padded by playing with Briere and a very talented team in the past, but he's showing what he really is and that's just a defensive checking line player and not much more. I don't think you can be a playoff team with a bunch of second, third, and fourth line players and hope that they overachieve.

The same could be said for the blueline as far as I'm concerned. They have 3 sets of second/third pair defenseman on the team, but there is no top pairing defenseman on this team at all. This team does not have a Chara, Pronger, Niedermeyer, or any top pairing defenseman. I know Campbell was here, but I would not consider him a top pairing defenseman as he's just not good defensively at all. Similarly, you can't have a bunch of second and third tier defenseman and hope that they overachieve.

Miller is a top 10 goalie, but he's not good enough to compensate for the lack of talent around him. This team just doesn't have enough talent and until they assemble some talent, this is a very mediocre team.
