wonderbread Posted March 7, 2009 Report Posted March 7, 2009 Drew.....$$$$$$$$tafford...Every goal....More $$$$$$$ for Drew hahahah I thought the same effen thing. I can't just enjoy a game anymore.
BamBam Posted March 7, 2009 Report Posted March 7, 2009 Dam... I wish they would've let Doan free at the end of the game so he could get bitch slapped by Rivet.
ROC Sabres Posted March 7, 2009 Report Posted March 7, 2009 On to Ottawa.. NO WAY THEY BENCH LALIME TOMORROW NIGHT... LINDY ARE YOU LISTENING.... DON'T BENCH HIM FOR TOMORROW NIGHT.... Only Johnny Storm is more on fire than Lalime right now.
SwampD Posted March 7, 2009 Report Posted March 7, 2009 Nice, Max is the man tonight,, Shrader your powers for Good have returned.... Nice call on the pominville jersey.... I don't know...I thought Pommer's 5 on 3 goal against the Bruins in January was supposed to get him in gear.
BamBam Posted March 7, 2009 Report Posted March 7, 2009 hahahah I thought the same effen thing. I can't just enjoy a game anymore. Isn't that crazy? As soon as the puck went in I had visions of an offer sheet from the Oilers for alot of $$$$$$$$
R_Dudley Posted March 7, 2009 Report Posted March 7, 2009 wow so much to like tonight.. - Like the new guy, Moore. Al, we hardly knew you, drum roll........ knew where the net was. - Like the line combinations. Some nice balance coming together all around - Love the goal tending -Defense on this team has been pretty solid as well -Like the edge and grittiness they have been playing with -Like some players getting on the scorboard tonight hope it starts some streaks for them (Skill, Pommers, Staff) -Like the new Max, he was solid tonight created allot of room and many chances and was relaible on the back check -Liked the FO play tonight anyone got final %... A little running around at the end there and lost some discipline I hope we didn't expend too much energy to give these Sens a run tomorrow.... Will Telquist play or will Lindy ride the hot hand...
ROC Sabres Posted March 7, 2009 Report Posted March 7, 2009 Isn't that crazy? As soon as the puck went in I had visions of an offer sheet from the Oilers for alot of $$$$$$$$ WHY? they have their PP specialist in coatlicker now He's worth 2 maybe 2.5 a year but will probably get offered 3 by someone which is gonna kill me.
SwampD Posted March 7, 2009 Report Posted March 7, 2009 I find it interesting that our offense returned once Vanek did. I think his low-key leadership is underestimated.
ROC Sabres Posted March 7, 2009 Report Posted March 7, 2009 I find it interesting that our offense returned once Vanek did. I think his low-key leadership is underestimated. agreed. Him being on the ice gives confidence to his team and worry to the opposition.
SabresFan526 Posted March 7, 2009 Report Posted March 7, 2009 I find it interesting that our offense returned once Vanek did. I think his low-key leadership is underestimated. Totally true. He brings confidence even if he's not the one scoring. It opens up the other players on the team as so much focus is on him. My game thoughts: -Special teams has been really hot recently. They scored 3 PP goals and only gave up 1 SHG on I think like 7 opportunities. Solid work -Lalime continues to play really well. It's amazing how good a goalie can be when he's confident and getting goal scoring support. Lalime has been excellent and I have complete faith in him helping the Sabres reach the playoffs -Connolly was hot tonight with 4 points on the 5 goals. He was all over the ice. Let's hope he can stay healthy for the next 2 years. -Finally good to see Pommer get a goal. He's been in a major drought. Let's hope he can continue the scoring as the Sabres really need him down the stretch. -Max played well again tonight. Gritty effort by Max after he took a huge hit from Ken Klee. He came back and played really smart and even got the secondary assist on Stafford's goal. I hope this is the Max we see for the rest of the season because this Max could really help the Sabres out -I know he didn't score, but Hecht played a really great game tonight. He was excellent in the defensive zone and on the PK. He was really aggressive tonight. I'm okay if he's not scoring if he plays like he did tonight, and he played really well. -I like Moore. I think he needs more practice time with the Sabres, but once he gets that down, I think he'll really be a key addition to the Sabres. Overall, great win, 10 goals in 2 games, and only 2 goals against. This is the type of hockey the Sabres need to play down the stretch. Special teams is getting hot. Let's keep this going as tomorrow's game is another huge game.
BamBam Posted March 7, 2009 Report Posted March 7, 2009 I find it interesting that our offense returned once Vanek did. I think his low-key leadership is underestimated. Not by me. I said that Vanek should be wearing Hecht's or Pommer's "A" along with Timmy C
... Posted March 7, 2009 Report Posted March 7, 2009 Not by me. I said that Vanek should be wearing Hecht's or Pommer's "A" along with Timmy C Agreed. If The Skill can shake the injury bug over the next few seasons and he re-signs again, I could see him wearing the C after Rivet retires (or leaves). At times it seems like he is coaching on the ice... he'll make a great coach some day. I loved the way Max controlled the PP there in the third. Who would have guessed Max had that in him? Much better than watching Roy stick handle while everyone waits for him to do something. Just a nice, gritty game - a game WE ALL know the Sabres can play; that's why it's so frustrating to watch them take games off. Let's hope they're done taking games off this season. And Lalime - the more I watch him the more I like that guy. I liked him from the beginning, and it's pretty clear he was getting no support up front. I LOVE the way he harrasses the other team's players as they come in, and the way he communicates with his own players is great. I think he's teaching Lindy to live up to his own words. You can bet Lalime gets a lot more action earlier in the season next season. So, keep it up boys! 17 more to go.
Stoner Posted March 7, 2009 Report Posted March 7, 2009 "Are you happy now Henry!" I thought she said, "Did you rat me out Henry?"
wonderbread Posted March 7, 2009 Report Posted March 7, 2009 I thought she said, "Did you rat me out Henry?" whatever it is it makes me cry. everytime
repster Posted March 7, 2009 Report Posted March 7, 2009 I was at the game tonight. My record improves to 4-2-1 on the year. I'm assuming Labatt Blue was absent knowing his record... Nice solid victory. Have to watch the penalties though. In Ottawa need to stay out of the box tomorrow. Lalime is playing with confidence, Connolly is relaxed again and we have two lines that can score. Gaustad and Rivet playing with some jam. Max is playing like he knows no one wants him and he has something to prove from an all-around game standpoint. Hopefully, we can get Pominville and Hecht to get their touch back. If the team continues to gel and perform consistently, maybe their play will come around. Interesting to see Ruff continue to juggle lines. I hope that moving forward, some combos get hot (and we stay healthy) so he can keep them together. My last game is next Saturday...Labatt?
carpandean Posted March 7, 2009 Report Posted March 7, 2009 Interesting to see Ruff continue to juggle lines. I hope that moving forward, some combos get hot (and we stay healthy) so he can keep them together. Part of that may be that Moore hasn't practiced yet with the team, so he was trying him in different spots. However, it also was probably to help spread the time around to all players -- Timmy was the only forward with close to 20 minutes (had 19:26) and Roy was second with only 16:42 -- so that they are less tired tomorrow.
darksabre Posted March 7, 2009 Report Posted March 7, 2009 Well here's my thoughts on the game. I went with the Teppo jersey and he worked out for me, so I've got some mojo going there. The Bad: -Pommers has no jump in his step. He is behind plays constantly. Someone needs to light a fire under his butt. I know he got a goal tonight, but he needs to put in more of an effort. -Officiating was terrible as usual. There needed to be a penalty on the hit on max, especially giving him a shot while he was on the ground. -Hecht is just not good. The guy is completely out of it. I wish we had gotten rid of him. A few nice plays but nothing worth noting. -Mair needs to think about some of the plays he makes. He was in la-la land tonight. The Good: -There was a lot of it. Lalime was extraordinary, especially with the stick save he made coming across the net. Phenomenal. -Moore is a definite improvement over Kotalik. He throws the body around and plays a very smart game from a positional standpoint. He looked great on the PK, always being just aggressive enough that Phoenix couldn't move the puck well, but not too aggressive. He's got skill and I would love to see him come into his own here. -Kaleta is an animal. I don't think I need to tell anyone here that though. -Jovanovski might have spent more time in the box than on the ice. -Kalinen is terrible, and the Coyotes are going to suffer because of it. Excellent. -Max had a pretty sound game. He's definitely playing like he wants to be resigned. He made some smart plays tonight and looked like he was trying to slow his game down a bit to mesh with the team. Maybe Lindy finally got through to him. Too soon to tell. -Lydman is a pretty decent hockey player. For the mistakes he makes, he plays a good game. He looks good coming up into the play in the offensive zone, but players like Pomminstein need to be paying attention. Quite a few times tonight it took him too long to cover the defensive position left open by Lydman playing up. There needs to be more smarts on the ice with regards to position. -Rivet doesn't take #%^$#! from anyone. I was glad to see him try and fight the ref tonight just so he could fight someone else. Refs should have let him go. -Butler is getting there. He still makes a couple bad plays now and then, but for the most part this kid is NHL worthy. We need to keep him around for a while. Overall, this team does show moments of greatness. They have what it takes to make the playoffs when they try and the puck bounces their way. I don't think Phoenix was a good test of this team post trade deadline, but the next few games will be. Sens, Flyers and Panthers. We gotta win all of them. Do it.
james duncan Posted March 7, 2009 Report Posted March 7, 2009 I have decided to use my magical shrader powers to help end the Pominville slump. I just broke out the jersey. You'll really impress us if you pull out a Peters jersey tonight...
G.M. Posted March 7, 2009 Report Posted March 7, 2009 I think theres several reasons for that. They needed to move some toughness to other lines, this Coyotes team can hit well. It was pointless to have goose, mair and kaleta on one line. And moving Paille from Roy and Max was not smart either. Moore has had no practice with those two and that was line golden the other night. Excellent point
Bmwolf21 Posted March 7, 2009 Report Posted March 7, 2009 -Max had a pretty sound game. He's definitely playing like he wants to be resigned. He made some smart plays tonight and looked like he was trying to slow his game down a bit to mesh with the team. Maybe Lindy finally got through to him. Too soon to tell. Max is definitely playing for his next contract, but I don't see it happening here. Given how his last two years have gone I highly doubt he wants to re-up with Buffalo, and with the amount of money the Sabres have committed to Pominville, Connolly, Roy, Vanek and Miller, I don't think there would be room in the budget for Max -- at least not anywhere near what he's making now.
wjag Posted March 7, 2009 Report Posted March 7, 2009 A couple of observations about players, styles, etc 1. Until Pominville's goal, he was a one trick pony. It appears to me that a high percentage of his shots were from the right circle dot. Every goalie in the league knows that is where he will shoot from. Tonight his goal game from, surprise, the left side, net side. He also ripped a beautiful drop pass wide from center slot. If he'd just move around a bit, he might have a chance to score. 2. Hecht use to be rock solid with the puck. What always amazed me was once he dug the puck out of the wall, the D couldn't get it away from him. Now he very routinely loses the puck. The more I watch his play, the more I'm convinced he is playing with an undisclosed injury. Almost all his shots are from the right side and are a backhand. I wonder if taking a slap shot is too painful for him. Think about it, when was the last time you saw this guy just unleash a slap shot? At best, he used a couple of wristers last night that had nothing on them. 3. Lalime's positioning is generally strong. It does seem like he gets caught out of the net once per game though. I was nervous when he first starting playing regularly. He was roaming way too much, IMO. He has calmed down quite a bit. His play has been rock solid in the last 3 games.
ROC Sabres Posted March 7, 2009 Report Posted March 7, 2009 After last nights games decided to check NHL.com 3 stars: 1st: Michal Handzus 3G 0A 3P 2nd: Martin Gerber 37 SV 38 SA .974 SV% 3rd: Olli Jokinen 2G 0A 2P No love for The Skill with 4 points. Definitely should have been in over Olli but of course, NHL loves their superstars first.
DR HOLLIDAY Posted March 7, 2009 Report Posted March 7, 2009 I thought Hank played well tonight...............
