Barnabov Posted March 4, 2009 Report Posted March 4, 2009 So Max must still be on IR otherwise they're over the roster limit - how does this jive with his statements that he's been cleared to play? Any word on who's getting waived? Vanek - Connolly - Stafford Gaustad - Roy - Pominville Paille - Moore - Hecht Ellis - Mair - Kaleta Reserves: Peters - MacArthur - Afinogenov Sabres.com shows all 8 D-Men are healthy so regardless of the above, isn't the roster at 24 - 1 over - when Vanek comes off IR today? Looks like 1 of the 15 forwards & 1 of the 8 D need to be waived. Appreciate any insight someone has on this.
nobody Posted March 4, 2009 Report Posted March 4, 2009 Moore isn't going to make it to town today so they don't have to count him; perhaps?
apuszczalowski Posted March 4, 2009 Report Posted March 4, 2009 Moore isn't going to make it to town today so they don't have to count him; perhaps? Its less then a 2 hr drive from the ACC to HSBC if he is currently in TO, he could make the game tonight if the bridge isn't bad. Moore was the #2 centre in TO, although I'm not sure if he could play the wing too. I don't think Ellis should sit, he has actually played alright, there are other guys that deserve to sit ahead of him
nobody Posted March 4, 2009 Report Posted March 4, 2009 I think it was on the Buf News blog that said Ellis is sick and Moore wasn't going to make it into town.
DonInBuffalo Posted March 5, 2009 Report Posted March 5, 2009 The first thing to figure out who gets waived. Let's assume the 23 man roster will consist of the typical 14 F, 7 D, and 2 G. Obviously Enroth gets sent back to Portland. Looks like Butler is going back too; I can't see them waiving any of the other D. That still leaves one F who needs to get waived. The obvious choice is Peters; the only other plausible scenario I can think of is Ellis, but IMO he's been playing to well to get waived over Peters. With the Sabres playing well tonight it's a pretty safe bet that Lindy will try to keep the lines relatively intact, at least in the short term. On Friday I'm guessing we'll see: Vanek-Connelly-Stafford McArthur-Roy-Afinogenov Hecht-Moore-Pomminstein Paille-Gaustad-Kaleta with Mair and Ellis being scratches, assuming everyone is healthy. With that depth, there are maybe a handful of players in the top 12 that don't have to worry about being scratched if they aren't pulling their weight.

There is no limit on the roster the rest of the way. It's possible that Butler goes back (but I doubt it), but no one else will be leaving this team from here on out.
sjb012 Posted March 5, 2009 Report Posted March 5, 2009 #41 needs to sit. Clarkey boy comes out. Vanek-Connolly-Stafford Pommer-Roy-Hecht Paille-Moore-Maxy Mair-Goose-Patty (What a checking line!!!) Sit: General, Petey, Ellis Maybe sub Hecht and Ellis, which changes the line combos...I hate 55's play this year.
Grinder42 Posted March 5, 2009 Report Posted March 5, 2009 Let max sit. waive him whatever. Well, Max certainly outplayed Pominville, Conolly, MacArthur, Stafford tonight, Hecht......No way you sit part of the best line against the Habs! I like the Combo of Roy and Max ........Speed and skill......Roy has the shot. Outside of Lalime Max, Roy and Goose were our best every shift players....I'd like to see Moore with Maire and Pominville sitting 55!

Agree....and 55 deserves no recognition of name ....he is horrible this season.....people talk about Max not finishing...that fella received a wide open pass from pominville in front of the net, he was uncovered and he still failed to have his stick on the ice......clearly was not thinking like a scorer! Clarke and Ellis.....are the same gritty low return player! Anyoone else notice that Max stepped right into the second power play unit!
carpandean Posted March 5, 2009 Report Posted March 5, 2009 Based on tonight's lines, I'll go with: Vanek-Connolly-Stafford Paille-Roy-Max Hecth-Moore-Pommer Mair-Goose-Kaleta Sit: General, Petey, Ellis
Two or less Posted March 5, 2009 Report Posted March 5, 2009 Based on tonight's lines, I'll go with: Vanek-Connolly-Stafford Paille-Roy-Max Hecth-Moore-Pommer Mair-Goose-Kaleta Sit: General, Petey, Ellis I agree with these. And the Pommer, Hecht and Moore line could go shutdown almost any line in hockey. And Ruff would have a lot of leverage on the 4th line. Keep Mair, or put in MacArthur to add a bit of skill, or even put in Ellis for a spark..... our team is totally different with an additional center with speed and Thomas Vanek.
jwcolour Posted March 5, 2009 Report Posted March 5, 2009 Based on tonight's lines, I'll go with: Vanek-Connolly-Stafford Paille-Roy-Max Hecth-Moore-Pommer Mair-Goose-Kaleta Sit: General, Petey, Ellis That Paille-Roy-Max line was really good tonight. Max played well, Paille was flying at times with speed I didn't know he had (that play where Max tipped it up the neutral zone and Paille busted his ass by the defenders).
billsrcursed Posted March 5, 2009 Report Posted March 5, 2009 Based on tonight's lines, I'll go with: Vanek-Connolly-Stafford Paille-Roy-Max Hecth-Moore-Pommer Mair-Goose-Kaleta Sit: General, Petey, Ellis This makes the most sense...
That Aud Smell Posted March 5, 2009 Report Posted March 5, 2009 Based on tonight's lines, I'll go with: Vanek-Connolly-Stafford Paille-Roy-Max Hecth-Moore-Pommer Mair-Goose-Kaleta Sit: General, Petey, Ellis agreed. nice to see paille have a good game. it's weird to think of him as our #2 lw, but with the way jochen's been jokin', we really have to look to paille to skate with the top 6. i'd also be okay putting pommer up with roy to see if we can't get him going somehow, but that would transform your third line from a sturdy, responsible one into one searching for an identity.
