This would be a good pick up if it were a accent piece to a larger pickup. Moore for Kotalik doesn't make this a playoff team. It's pretty much as it was discussed in a previous thread. They had a 3+ hour meeting to tell the players no help is coming.

I was being lambasted for asserting the same right after the deal, (not by you).

Not enough to change the season around on paper. Could it light a spark? perhaps. But max could learn to finish too.

Don't worry about it. Posters love the new toys.

Don't get me wrong. I like the Moore trade. It's just not enough.

A wake-up for the General?

Who's better? Moore or MacArthur?

Depth chart has turned into a fumbled s%^t show. Where's Wildcat? Dineen should be happy.

Probably not, considering MacArthur is a LW who has played some C....

For what?

To win Lord Stanley's Chalice, I'd agree.

To make the playoffs, I'd disagree.

To win a round or 2, the jury's still out.

Why? Because he gets Enroth back?

It's post-trade deadline. The team only has to send players down to stay under the salary cap, which is not an issue.

You have to be crazy to think Darcy wasn't trying to land more players here. He said in the conference he had been talking about several defensman yet nobody was biting. He can't offer up the house for a depth player. It just wouldn't make sense.

I do like Moore a lot and i don't think i'd say it's because i like "new toys". We NEED Moore to excel in Buffalo because we are in a tight playoff race. Moore NEEDS Buffalo and NEEDS to play well to demand the $2.5 million per multi-year deal he's been looking for. If he struggles here, he will just move on for a small raise. He is a good role player. He will win face offs. He will play more physical then Kotalik did despite being smaller. He's a good skater with good vision. And he will play the penalty kill. He's also a smart player who won't take stupid penalties. I think he can help us out a lot.

We now have three good faceoff centers for the PK: Gaustad, Moore and Roy. No more Hecht taking those draws.

Edit: I guess that's not just for the PK ...

Yeah, Moore is an excellent faceoff guy. Something like 13th best in the league.

Tied with Gaustad at 14th in the NHL with 54.8%.

Roy is 3rd on our team and 51st in the NHL with 50.4%. Then, we have Mair (48.6%), Ellis (46.3%), Hecht (43.6%) and Connolly (43.4%).

I don't want this to seem like I dislike Moore. I don't. This team has greater issues than face-offs. Moore is a nice third line player like a younger Adam Mair. More skilled but a little less gritty.

Mair is one of my favorite players, but Moore's "more skilled" is enough that he (unlike Mair) can effectively center a second (scoring) line effectively when needed, which is something that we've needed for the past two years. He also is very good on the PK, which Mair is not. Mair is a better fourth line center, but Moore is a better third/second line center. If he usurps anyone, it will be Hecht (at least as a center.)

It seems like the General should be receiving some R&R after last nights game. Paille completly out played him and after Roy's second goal,Paille replaced Mc Carthur. I think its prime time for Mc Carthur to sit out. Moore is coming in.

And Max played very well last night. :o

It will be very interesting to see where Moore fits in. Especially if Max is in. This is becoming quite the conundrum.(not sure if i spelled it right :death: )

But we gotta figure with Max and Moore,we have a ton of offense in this line up. Who sits tomorrow?

FWIW, here's Puck Daddy's take on the Sabres' day yesterday:

Buffalo Sabres: Traded F Ales Kotalik to Edmonton for a 2009 second-round pick; acquired F Dominic Moore from Toronto for a 2009 second-round pick; acquired G Mikael Tellqvist for a 2010 fourth-round pick.

We'd like to apologize to the good listeners of WGR in Buffalo for poisoning their airwaves with a predication that Darcy Regier would just make a small trade for a depth defenseman after re-signing Tim Connolly to a two-year, $9 million deal. Because he pretty much did everything but that.

Kotalik never played to his size; and since it'll be years before Gary Bettman scraps five-on-five hockey in favor of a 60-minute shootout, Kotalik's effectiveness is limited to overtime. Moore was coveted by a few teams; his addition could allow Jochen Hecht to shift back to the wing, and he gives the Sabres the best depth they've had up the middle since Drury and Danny left. Based on Lalime's performance last night, Tellqvist has scared the bejesus out of Patty, along with being a solid backup overall. GRADE: A-

What was up with the big shiner Mair had last night? Did I forget something?

I'm not sure if they've had a greater need than faceoffs.

Faceoffs have been killing this team all year.

This is the worst faceoff team I can remember in some time in Buffalo.

Most of the time when people think they are going to sleep they are just losing face-off possessions.

Luckily they can double shift Roy because he is often the best option at 50%.

I guess Lindy is going to play his "best efforts get the time in" card from here on out. Thats all I can think of with this roster and where their at. next 2 games are MUST WINS!

I will bet that Moore wont have quite the day Bernier did in his debut.....FWIW <_<

The thing I found curious is that he takes a shot at Kotalik as basically a one-trick pony in the Sabres review, but then in the Oilers review he calls him a "solid" rental and gives them a good grade also. I guess his analysis will work out if Edmonton has 7 or 8 shootouts down the stretch ...

Very true. too bad we couldnt have catagorized Al as a solid rental player  Maybe Darcy is saving that line for Max.

which makes you think, out of the bunch of ho-hum forwards or defensemen for that matter, why was Al targeted instead of Max or a younger guy.

Then again what are they gonna call him a one trick wonder? A giant sissy with a slapper?

Face offs have been a regular problem for the sabres this year, especially in their own end. I like the fact we now have Gaustad and Moore that could take important draws in the defensive end in case one guy gets tossed.

Didn't Ales have a pretty good playoff run in 05-06? Maybe it was Kalinin...

Max hasn't been stellar in the playoffs, regardless.

Both played very well during that playoff run, well, at least until Kalinin was injured.

If this has been mentioned earlier, sorry. I was reading Garth's blog on Ek and he mentioned that Dominic Moore is the brother of Steve Moore famous for having Bertuzzi bash his head in.

Yeah when I heard that, I was wondering what it must be like for Dominic to play against Bertuzzi.
