SabresFanInRochester Posted March 1, 2009 Report Posted March 1, 2009 It seemed strange that he did not play last night. My thoughts are that Buffalo is in the hunt, and not that Guerin would throw the game but his effort (or lack of) could have assisted Buffalo. If he is going to a team that is to contend and Buffalo is close to slipping out of contention, maybe they left him out to keep it a clean game. They're professionals, so maybe that kind of stuff is not supposed to happen. But, at the same time, you hear the big stories about betting on your team, and gambling -- so who's to say. If he was going to Montreal or another team in the running, you would think he would want to play Buffalo to do everything possible to help beat the Sabres, helping his future play-off chances. Not that I want to see it, but maybe Connolly goes back to the Islanders.
LabattBlue Posted March 1, 2009 Report Posted March 1, 2009 Hopefully not. Rentals are expensive and should only be consider by teams that are legitimate cup contenders.
carpandean Posted March 1, 2009 Report Posted March 1, 2009 I doubt that the Sabres would pay the price to rent Guerin. More likely, the Islanders are deciding between a couple of offers and took him out to avoid the possibility of him getting injured, like Morris in Phoenix.
SabresFanInRochester Posted March 1, 2009 Author Report Posted March 1, 2009 Hopefully not. Rentals are expensive and should only be consider by teams that are legitimate cup contenders. Maybe Snow just wanted to make sure he was healthy before the deadline, but sitting him out just seems really weird. And as far as a rental, he went to the Islanders for a couple years. I think whatever team he goes to, he ends up there for a couple years.
millbank Posted March 1, 2009 Report Posted March 1, 2009 Islander Fan Blog Man claims deal being held up for some reason. For what its worth, Hockey Night In Canada last evening said team he was going to was Washington. We shall see..
bob_sauve28 Posted March 1, 2009 Report Posted March 1, 2009 Mark Recci is out there to be had. If the price was cheap I'd like to see him come here.
deluca67 Posted March 1, 2009 Report Posted March 1, 2009 Mark Recci is out there to be had. If the price was cheap I'd like to see him come here. What would be the point?
carpandean Posted March 1, 2009 Report Posted March 1, 2009 Mark Recci is out there to be had. If the price was cheap I'd like to see him come here. The Sabres won't be bringing in high-priced rentals this year ... and rightfully so.
FearTheReaper Posted March 1, 2009 Report Posted March 1, 2009 Mark Recci is out there to be had. If the price was cheap I'd like to see him come here. Recci is making 1.5 right now,and next season it goes down to 1.25. At the very least,he could be sought out to bring in some vet presence we need in that locker room. And why not i say?! We have Max sitting there at 3.5 or whatever. Recci would bring in some experience, and fill in a role playing mode we need. Obviously thats not our biggest need at this point. But its one of many. Whats that list again? 1.) Solid Power Forward(who would play in the top 6) 2.) Physical Blueliner(someone to play with Sekera) 3.)Veteran Leadership(someone to motivate, and get us focused) At this point i dont think theres much motivation going on,amongst the players, between periods, before the game and after losses.Thats what leaders are for. We dont have many. And i'm not saying lets get 5 vets in there. 1 or 2 guys like Recci would work wonders.

At the very least,he could be sought out to bring in some vet presence we need in that locker room. Recci has a cap hit of 1.5 now and a salary of 1.25 now. He is an UFA at the end of the summer, not under contract for next year. He is a pure rental.
BamBam Posted March 1, 2009 Report Posted March 1, 2009 I know you all love Eck so much but here is what he is getting from named sources...His Headling reads: WHERE? (and perhaps a snag) Not Buffalo Confirmed. Other Deals Holding Up This One Eck's Words: For those of you who chose to sleep more than three hours here is the update to both get you up to speed and give you a sense of what I "speculate" is happening given the rather extreme amounts of misinformation... I will tell you this much, as much fun as this mystery has been, I will have another blog out shortly because today will NOT just be Billy Guerin day at hockeybuzz.com.... There are plenty of other rumors that I have been chasing until 4:30 am last night (we have a cool little insomniac club going on the site now that tunes in after 3 am) but getting to the story: My hat goes off to our own Andy Strickland and Chris Botta at http://www.islanderspointblank.com/ It is basically their reporting that EVERYONE else is chasing. Here is the order of events and how I interpret them... 1. at 7pm I got a call from Garth who informed me that Guerin had taken the morning skate, but was nowhere to be found for the warmup. 2. Strickland gets a simple text from Guerin that "we will know more in the morning." 3. I talk to Andy and tell him the three main teams that I have heard were the Bruins, Devils, and Caps. 4. Andy talks to sources and eliminates the Bruins and the Devils, and confirms the team is in the east. 5. I hear that it is a "contending team" in the East. I make some calls and eliminate Philly. 6. I hear that Washington, Montreal and Buffalo are possibilities 7. Botta reports that it is either Montreal or Washington. 8. CBC's Hockey Night in Canada believes it is Washington leading several other outlets to believe it is Washington. 9. Botta speculates that NJ could be in it noting that only Lou would be able to keep something so secretive. 10. Andy reports it is NOT Washington. 11. Sources tell me that Montreal is the team and the delay has to do with another deal that Montreal is trying to work out, perhaps with Calgary 12. We all sleep for about three hours 13. I am told it could also be Carolina while recording a podcast with Bill Clement that will air over the next four days. 14. An hour ago Botta reports that it "could take all day and something is holding up." So given that I spend most of my life sorting through these kinds of plots here is what I think happened. The Islanders had at least two or three teams that they were close to dealing Guerin to leading them to send him home. I believe the Capitals were the closest to done at that time. Something then happened as word got out of the Caps having traded for Guerin. I don't know if it was Washington pulling out or someone else upping the ante, but for guys at Hockey Night to report it done it must have been pretty close. And talking to my sources I too was close to reporting it done as I put it at an e4 an hour before CBC reported it. But I believe Snow may have created a little bidding war here...Maybe even by sending Billy home... The one thing I will say is that I would stick with Andy Strickland on this one. My guess is that Andy may even know what the team is, but can't yet say. So might Botta. However, it is also quite possible that the deal is not done due to the fact that the other deal that the team getting Guerin needs to pull off may have been snagged....I will stay on it, but as I said....I am about to immediately start working on another blog here...because there is much going on..

carpandean Posted March 1, 2009 Report Posted March 1, 2009 Are we really suppose to believe he got a call from Garth Snow to tell him about Guerin?? Please...... I assumed that the Garth to which he was referring is the blogger Garth at hockeybuzz.com.
KD in CT Posted March 1, 2009 Report Posted March 1, 2009 My buddy who is an Islander season ticket holder called me cause he heard the trade would be Guerin for Max! I know...I know....and the Bills are signing Peppers, Boldin and Daniels.
carpandean Posted March 1, 2009 Report Posted March 1, 2009 My buddy who is an Islander season ticket holder called me cause he heard the trade would be Guerin for Max! I take it back, if we can get a good rental for Max, then I am all for it! (Of course, the reality is that we'd probably have to throw in our first-round pick for that deal to happen, which I wouldn't do.)
carpandean Posted March 2, 2009 Report Posted March 2, 2009 Still no decision on Guerin. Sources have told Sportsnet with more than one team continuing to push hard for Bill Guerin, it now appears the New York Islanders will not make a final decision where to trade him before Monday.
millbank Posted March 2, 2009 Report Posted March 2, 2009 Still think it is Washington. Adding Guerin means moving some players around so they will have cap room for Guerin and room to add Pronger who they covet.... Still no decision on Guerin.
BamBam Posted March 3, 2009 Report Posted March 3, 2009 I'm sure this has already been said, but I wonder if Buffalo was the "mystery" team and Guerin told the Sabres Front Office that he wouldn't report. After the Isles attempting a trade they would hold him out of the lineup while trying to scramble and find a new team. ?

After the Isles attempting a trade they would hold him out of the lineup while trying to scramble and find a new team. More likely, it went like this: before the game, Darcy and crew were planning to be buyers; after it, they had switched plans ...
