tom webster Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 In case no one has noticed, both top picks have been on fire the last few weeks. Ennis just won player of the week honors before this night and Myers has been taking charge going four straight games were he was either first or second star. http://www.medicinehatnews.com/content/view/78052/110/
LabattBlue Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 Ennis has been on fire the last couple of weeks(something like 11 goals in the last two weeks). I will be interested to see how Ennis along with Paul Byron make the transition to the pro game. They are both listed at 5'9" which when combined with Gerbe doesn't provide much size among the 3 best offensive forwards in the system(ahl, college or juniors) right now.

It is why I believe Darcy and his staff have to decide which player has the most upside and which has the most trade value and act accordingly. There is no way those three along with Roy and Pominville can be in the same line up.
rickshaw Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 Ennis the real deal. He's making the NHL. That will be for sure.
Lethbridge Broncos Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 Everyone knows Ennis is a sure thing NHLer. He might be the best pure goal scorer in the WHL. He has all the tools -- as we have discussed this fully in other threads. Gerbe is a sure thing NHL player as well -- as we know. So, there are indeed two smurfs that will play in the NHL -- most likely for the Sabres. Roy plays bigger than he is. He is stocky and never takes a bad hit. ROy, while listed as small -- can stand in there and never gets tagged or abused. He also goes about 200 pounds and has GREAT balance. Byron is a 6th round twig. he is a pure goaler -- but only in the QMJHL. Gerbe, at his, size and Ennis, have played in rough and tumble/better talent hockey leagues. Labatt Blue, you could pot a goal or two in the QMJHL. regardless, while byron might develop (and i think he weighs like 150 pounds or somthing) --- but he does not change the plan or opinion on how to handle Gerbe or Ennis whatsoever. Those two are the future -- paul byron is a nice story who plays in a bogus scoring french league and is VERY tiny. so if he makes it -- cool, but HE DOES NOT CHANGE DR's thinking on the sure thing pro smurfs he has. and again, Roy is really isnt that small. so, i think the anaylsis changes in this thread, in light of everything said here. as a side, pominville is a VERY sofy player. the flaws in his game stand out when he plays with other softies and poor players. when he is on a line with hecht -- is it laughable. bob_sauve28 Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 That's great! I know a lot of people bash Darcy for not making a trade every ten minutes, but he sure stocks the pond well. Miller came up through the ranks, so did Biron, Sakara, Butler, Weber, Roy, Vanek, Stafford, Kotalik and Paille, who looks to be turning it around. If Darcy does trade away a prospect this year I do hope its a forward. Defenseman are just too valuable to trade, IMO. Butler and Sekara are untouchables unless someone offers something insane for them

Lethbridge Broncos Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 agreed, they are both smurfs. but it is the leagues they play in and the competition level. in medicine hat -- ennis is almost always going up against sure thing pro defenders every game. byron, in the french scoring league, is going up against kids that will be pumping gas in Hull next year. look, i like byron -- dont get me wrong. his playoff last season WAS INCREDIBLE (he scored around 20 goals there --wow). and what a guy does in the playoff is all that matters IN MY opinion -- especially when looking at a young player. his game rose above the other kids -- and he may end up being a terrific pro. but on paper -- at this point, i simply think DR is playing with house money. here, DR has a prospect who is interesting -- but he is not as valuable as ennis or gerbe (two guys that just happen to be his size but have palyed at higher levels, against better competition, etc). as long as they go out and get some bigger guys to skate with these peewees, all should be well. i mean, look at martin st. louis -- he is the modern theo fluery. Byron and Ennis are listed at almost the same height and weight. How can it only be a negative for one but not the other?
Goodfella25 Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 Scoring 6 goals in one game is impressive at any level. Congrats to him--this is good to hear.
Two or less Posted March 1, 2009 Report Posted March 1, 2009 He's impressed me a lot when he played for Team Canada at the WJC. He goes to the net. And he will fight to get position in front of the net. And his back checking is unreal. This guy is for real. I wouldn't count out Paul Bryon out either tho. But i think Sabres need to start trading some of these guys. Roy, Gerbe, Bryon and Ennis. All 4 are tiny and all look like they have something going for themselves. Bryon probably has the least value but if a team asks for him at the deadline... good bye. I also wouldn't mind sending away Gerbe if it lands a guy with size or a dependable defenseman.

Gee V Man, that's sound a lot like my post. I knew we would gravitate towards each others position.
