Re: picks worth more, an article on TSN talked about this. He said on average 25 trades historically. Also that unlike yesteryear's, payment$ is not in the equation anymore, it's either player, prospects or picks. The only 'payment' around now is when you "help" another GM drop his salary by taking a player off their hands (i.e. Briere, he didn't say it, I did, and no I don't want him back)
SabresFanInRochester Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 This is interesting: "Looking to add size that will play regularly" Vinn Lecavalier has some pretty good size. He would play regularly, in my opinion. Is that more or less of a pipe dream than Bouwmeister?
Bigthuder1636 Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 TSN is reporting that Kunitz might be available. He would be more than a rental and would give them some aded scoring and a physical presence upfront. WOuld take alot to get him most likely but hey its not as impossible as bouwmeester

HMMMMM, maybe someone is chirping in the ears of Lindy and Darcy, making them wonder, hmmmm
spndnchz Posted February 26, 2009 Report Posted February 26, 2009 Vinn Lecavalier has some pretty good size. He would play regularly, in my opinion. Is that more or less of a pipe dream than Bouwmeister? Tampa fans and corporate sponsors have spoken and Vinny's not going anywhere. Quite the uproar.
... Posted February 26, 2009 Report Posted February 26, 2009 Darcy feels the HAVE to make the playoffs this year, Lindy saying the 2 points the other night were more important than retribution. HMMMMM, maybe someone is chirping in the ears of Lindy and Darcy, making them wonder, hmmmm This isn't the first time this season both of them indicated, more than passively (like a rote "of course our goal is to make it into the playoffs"), that they have to make the playoffs. Those two seem a lot more desperate than the actual team does. So, I think you focused in on something rather peculiar; the determination that LR and DR seem to have to get this team into the first round. I'd like to hope that this is real rather than a way to spin the season for mass consumption - I guess we'll see once the trade deadline gets here.
R_Dudley Posted February 26, 2009 Report Posted February 26, 2009 Good update Carp, Thanks. If not a cookie cutter response or sell the fan ploy then it is very encouraging from the standpoint it covers most of the issues allot of the fans posting here see with the team. Now will we or will we be told we were unable to address them is...... the rest of the story.

Didn't I read something about him that he may be tough for someone to take because he's been in the league for 10 years and no playoffs?
carpandean Posted February 26, 2009 Author Report Posted February 26, 2009 Didn't I read something about him that he may be tough for someone to take because he's been in the league for 10 years and no playoffs? Yeah, people worry about his lack of playoff experience. However, it's not like he's made the playoffs and not done well. He's been on bad teams, so he's never had the chance. He could be great in the playoffs for all anyone knows. I'd be willing to give Olli a shot. He was very good in Florida and just not a good fit in Phoenix. He comes with one more year left at about $5.5 million (salary; cap is $5.25 million.) He's more of a goal scorer than playmaker, but isn't lacking in that department either. Unfortunately, he's not great on faceoffs, but neither is Timmy. The one thing that really stands out, especially with Timmy's history, is that Olli is an iron man. Prior to missing 6 games this year, he hadn't missed a single game in four seasons and just three games total in the two seasons before that. In fact, he hasn't played less than 78 games in a season since coming up to the NHL full time in 1998-99, having missed just 13 total games in those 8 2/3 seasons. At 6'3", 215 lbs, he certainly brings some of the size that we've been calling for and Darcy said that he is looking for up front.

Yeah, he had been in the playoffs, but never actually won a series before his first year in Buffalo. Did anyone have those same concerns about him? I'm sure most would agree that he was a very good signing coming out of the lockout.

I believe I used to call him 'Teppo the Uninspiring'. I always felt his contribution to the younger defensemen was more mythical than reality. How many young defensemen has he mentored into NHL defensemen?
