Supersabre Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 Its interesting that Briere has only had one good season and that was with Buffalo in 2006/2007 when he scored 95 points....Now hes the oft injured Daniel Briere. I can't remember Briere being banged up like that when he was with the Sabres.....oh well not our problem.
Bmwolf21 Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 Rick DiPietro New York Islanders Annual cap hit: $4.5 million Signed until: 2020-21 Age: 27 This list would be incomplete without mentioning Garth Snow?s magnum opus, wouldn?t it? The craziest part about DiPietro?s 15-year, $67.5-million deal isn?t that it?s the longest deal in NHL history ? it?s that the Isles are still paying for the buyout of Alexei Yashin?s 10-year, $87.5-million contract, the third-longest in NHL history. And they?ll be doing that until 2014-15, to the tune of a whopping $2.2 million per season. If you think about it, it?s kind of like marrying a stripper, divorcing her, saying ?Phew, glad that?s over, all that?s left is the alimony,? and then remembering you married another stripper before you divorced the first one. The New York Islanders front office, ladies and gentlemen!
JohnRobertEichel Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 Pominville is on pace to make that list next season.
Patty16 Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 Pominville is on pace to make that list next season. He should be an honorable mention, or maybe theres a ladies list out there somewhere with the way he plays, worst female sports contracts ......
tulax Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 Its interesting that Briere has only had one good season and that was with Buffalo in 2006/2007 when he scored 95 points....Now hes the oft injured Daniel Briere. I can't remember Briere being banged up like that when he was with the Sabres.....oh well not our problem. To be fair to the writer, I seem to remember him having a sports hernia injury in 2005-2006 that sidelined him for a considerable part of December and January. Nothing like this season though.
carpandean Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 Campbell may be on this list in a few years. Right now, the Blackhawks have so many young players that their cap his is relatively low. However, over the next three, they are going to have sign those young kids to real contracts. At that point, $7.14 million for a defenseman will seem like a really bad deal. Don't get me wrong, there are a couple of our $3 million defensemen that I'd trade to have Brian back at the $4.5 million per that he was looking for, but definitely not at over $7 million per.
millbank Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 Time will tell, nothing like another good playoff run to make people frown or smile depending on your perspective....
LabattBlue Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 Pominville is on pace to make that list next season. Pominville is ranked 14th among RW'ers in scoring and is on pace for 62 points. Is it a down year? Yes, but at 5.3 mil a year(beginning next season) and capable of putting up 65+ points a year, I'd hardly call him a bust.
rickshaw Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 Pommers has the points, but he's not scoring. That's fine when you are winning, but not when you aren't. And not when your team is on the bubble. He needs to up the production. The next 2 weeks will determine our playoff fate, I believe.
That Aud Smell Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 Pominville is on pace to make that list next season. the guy has struggled somewhat (not mightily) following the signing of a big contract (sound familiar? (ahem, *vanek*)). unless and until pominville's game really goes in the crapper, i will say this each and every time someone tries to make him a whipping boy: . i want that guy on my team. maybe his annual number winds up being a little fat as the economy continues to tank, but, what the hell, we made up for that on the other end with roy's deal.
carpandean Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 what the hell, we made up for that on the other end with roy's deal. I prefer to think of Roy's deal making up for Hecht's. It really was: Roy for $4.000 $5.525 million Hecht for $3.525 $2.000 million
repster Posted February 26, 2009 Report Posted February 26, 2009 Vanek stuggled last year in the first year of a new rich deal, and the thought was the pressure of the new huge deal was making him grip the stick too hard. Perhaps the same can be said this year for Pominville and Hecht. They just don't seem like the same players they were last year. On the other hand, Miller and Gaustad have new long term deals and have played up to expectations... This team has had bad luck this year with all the injuries too. If we were able to stay relatively healthy most of the year, we would be in much better shape. I'd guess we'd be in 4th or 5th place instead of fighting for a playoff spot.
