Trade Deadline Moves

I think that is a lot to pay for a guy that could have been had for free about a year ago.

But he can give a regular shift and always liked his skills.

The ongoing story all day was that Toronto wanted more than that, which I couldn't help but laugh at. I really don't have a good feel for Moore, but it should be interesting to see if anything else is in the works, because we have a lot of bodies up front right now.

Patty O'Sullivan to Carolina?!

Edit: now a three-way w/ Patty going to Edmonton.

everyone loves a good three-way.

Am I hearing Kotalik is gone? Edmonton?

I haven't heard anything to that effect. Too bad Hank didn't move (or did he)?

I just saw that too. I'm watching the coverage on NHL network via NHL.com and I saw it on the scroll.

Ales to Edmonton for a pick.

It's fine. I'm glad we made the trade. I just want to see more from us. If everyone is buying and no one is selling, then why aren't we selling? I can think of quite a few players that I'd be okay with selling.

Seems to me that Phoenix was having a fire sale today for the most part. But hey, they picked up Kalinin...

The guys on the NHL Network are ripping Kalinen a new one, it's great!

I just don't understand why Kalinin is still in the NHL. There's a reason why Darcy let him go last summer (but he should have still gotten someone in return instead of "adding by subtracting").

Maybe Kalinin may be frustrated enough to head back to Russia at season's end.

Does this mean the Sabres got the sloppy second?

This one has me scratching my head...

Patrick O'Sullivan(who I believe is a promising young center and under contract until 2011-12) was acquired by Carolina along with the Kings 2nd round pick for Justin Williams(injury prone the last two seasons, but under contract until 2010-11 and a very good player)). This seems fair for both teams.

Carolina then turns around and ships what they just received from the Kings to Edmonton for soon to be UFA Erik Cole. Carolina just got fleeced in a HUGE way. What a terrible deal.

The only bright spot to this day in my view is that the "Amazing" Brian Burke, who was supposed to be "the Busiest guy at the deadline" making all these moves for top draft picks to rebuild the Leafs to glory, got a couple of 2nd rounders and some injured vets that are basically him probably working an "under the table", "Good Faith" deal to help another GM free some salaries

Carolina didn't want O'Sullivan, Edmonton did. They had to get him in order to get Cole back. You really can't look at what they would've had if they didn't follow through on the second part of the deal, especially in one as complex as this deal. The other big issue is that Carolina has a lot of money already committed beyond this year. Cole will be gone, while O'Sullivan still has two years left. They more than likely wouldn't have been able to afford O'Sullivan beyond this year.

Leafs fans should be pleased. The have now a 1st round pick and three 2cd. for this coming deep draft, plus money and cap room to add players this summer, which figures to be busy one with many players available. They do the same next year, they will have turned over the entire roster in a short while. Not to argue but Leafs appear to be heading in right direction. Remember Moore they got off of waivers, the other guy a floater . Two seconds is not bad at all for these two.

Not to argue... :)

But Burke was supposed to get all these first rounders for the current Leafs and was supposed to be ever so busy turning them around for next season. Sorry, I forgot I'm talking to one of the sensible Leafs fans (in the 1% of Leafs fans in Southern Ontario). All I have heard about for the last season was how when Burke got there, he was going to clean house and that Antripov and Kaberle were going to get him these huge returns and he would be so busy today making deals. I believe he ties Regier today with the amount of deals he made, and his current team doesn't look likethey will be in the Tavares sweepstakes either

They are doing fine. They being keeping a few players will have more chips to play next season, when teams will be really fretting over the coming salary cap reduction. Players like Kaberle will be even more a premium next season. For a team wanting to restock system and rebuild this a good thing. Of course the people talking about getting first round picks ect. were likely imbibing in substances that clouded their minds.... True they will not be in Tavares sweepstakes, perhaps they get to draft Luke Schenn's brother Brayden, he said to be better prospect than Luke.

I do understand your point though, talking heads on Canadian TV, Radio, can be a little much. The import of the Leafs really just relative to the immediate area.

Do remember i also do root for the Sabres and am very much conflicted when the two teams play. Most often if you folks do not rag on me to much and make me mad i root for Sabres as I also get tired of the arrogance.
