Guest Sloth Posted February 24, 2009 Report Posted February 24, 2009 My 360 has crashed 3 times so I've decided to throw in the towel. I had NHL 09 on the 360 and I loved it, Is NHL 09 on the PS2 any good? I'm sure they play differently, but if it's fun, I'll buy it. I'm going through NHL 09 w/drawl right now. I'd appreciate any info.
Kristian Posted February 24, 2009 Report Posted February 24, 2009 If you're used to NHL09 on the 360, don't bother with the PS2 version. Like the PC version, it's nothing more than NHL06 v 1.3, as it's still based on the NHL06 engine.

So basically what you are saying is save the money and just play NHL06 (since the 360 is out of the picture)... Or if you don't have the 06 version, go out find a dirt cheap copy. Anyway... Sounds like good advice for saving a little money!

The PS2 and PC versions are actually made by a different developer (HB Studios) than the XBox 360 and PS3 versions (EA Canada), and have been since 2005, I believe. I have heard, however, that EA plans to improve the quality on the PC for next year. I'll believe it when I see it.

Plus, there was a guy who did an editor for NHL06, which allowed you to tweak basically every AI setting in that game, that the developers would never let you touch. IAM's Total Control Editor, I believe it was called. I actually got a pretty decent game out of it in the end, but of course it comes nowhere near NHL08 or NHL09.
DR HOLLIDAY Posted February 24, 2009 Report Posted February 24, 2009 NHL arcade 3 on 3 is pretty, total cheese but fun......
frisky Posted February 24, 2009 Report Posted February 24, 2009 It plays great on my PS3. No red ring of death here.
Guest Sloth Posted February 24, 2009 Report Posted February 24, 2009 It plays great on my PS3. No red ring of death here. In 06, I told myself I was going to wait on the PS3. Other than Nintendo, I had always went w/ the Playstation. I didn't have the original Xbox and I had little interest in it. But, I went to visit a college friend and he had the 360. I was blown away by it and I bought one the next day. What a mistake! Over the past 3 years a 360 crashed on me three times! Last month I said to hell w/ it and sold the games I had. Microsoft will probably take a huge blow when the next generation of gaming systems comes around. The 360, according to employees at Gamestop, has a failure rate of 36%! I was told the PS3 sat around 5% or so. I'll never purchase a Microsoft videogame console again. Microsoft's credibility, in my opinion, is bad. Thanks for the info on NHL 09 for the PS2. I'll pass on it and play 06. It could be fun to adjust the rosters.
