Well, SDS kindly reactivated this thread on my request. Anyone have any info on this pressing issue? I want to be able to see all the Sabres' new tough guys in HD.

Posted

My solution to DirectTV will be to drop them next spring when my contract is up. I can't stand that company. It's either Fios or back to the Dish for me.

I probably would've done so already but I keep holding out hope (ridiculous, but I can't help it) that the Bills will one day be worth the GD ripoff NFL package -- which is only on DirecTV.

That's great, but this isn't a DirecTV issue.

So far there has been no word on any updates to this situation. We'll probably have to wait to opening week to find out, which is a free preview.

Latest word is that there will be no MSG HD available for out of market Center Ice subscibers.

"No cable or satellite provider that carries NHL Center Ice has the MSG HD feeds available for use in NHL Center Ice at this time.

If you live in the local market for the Rangers, Devils, Islanders or Sabres - you will watch their games on the local regional sports network (MSG, MSG+ etc.) - not in NHL Center Ice. These local broadcasts are produced and controlled directly by MSG."

Thanks,

NHL TV

Why I hate DirectTV has nothing to do with Center Ice. My solution to my hate for DirectTV, regardless of why I hate them, is to drop them.

That IS great!

I would get it, because there will still be a number of Sabres games in HD that you wouldn't otherwise get. (VS, NHL Network, and whenever they play a road game against a team that does have its games in HD -- which is more than half the teams in the NHL although unfortunately not the Canadian teams). And, whenever DirecTV and Cablevision work this out, it will go back to EVERY Sabres home game being in HD, which is very sweet.

Ah, but that is assuming DTV and Versus make nice by the beginning of the season... at least you would still get the games on NHL Network in HD (and away games). I love hockey in HD but usually end up watching the SD MSG feed when they are away just so I can listen to RJ call the game!

Oh. I thought we were staying on topic.

What are you, the thread police? NO THREAD FOR YOU!

I will "stay on topic" as I please. KTHXBYE.

People were looking for an update on whether MSG HD would be available on Center Ice this season, after it was yanked last year. You start grumbling about DirecTV. It was pointed out this has nothing to do with DirecTV, another helpful tidbit for some. Your DirecTV grumbling continued. Hijack. BMITFA.

NO THREAD FOR YOU!

Ah yes, a quick search of your posting history came up as expected. Winning friends and influencing people isn't your strong suit. Also not the brightest bulb in the bunch. No sense wasting any more time on a dimwit, so go ahead and have the last word. BTW, DIRECTV RULES!

YAWN. You're a bore. Why don't you figure out how to fix your avatar. Maybe come back here, check the thread, ya know, try and come up with some other insult to make yourself feel superior in some manner.

you'll get the VS games in HD when the Sabs are on that channel also NHL network shows the games in HD and the Sabs ha ve been on that as well. But the MSG HD feeds are blacked out to out of markets folks, which is BS because all of last season and up until the beginning of February the MSG HD feed was available. This BS bickering bewteen the parties involved is accomplishing one thing, pissed off fans! Which in turn will lead to what folks are saying is it worth getting HD from DTV, in the end they only hurt themselves regarding revenue. So my brother in TN it is up to you.

Actually, you won't get the Vs. feeds on DirecTV as they have discontinued the channel due to contract negotiations with Comcast; they are the ones that own the broadcasting rights to Vs. and are trying to jack up the cost on DirecTV to carry the channel. So until that issue is resolved, your only option is to watch the away games in HD on their feeds, which means no RJ. I like, many of you, find this simply unacceptable.

I have been a DirecTV customer since 1996. A long time.. I don't know how you can say they rule. They are in a high profile snit with Comcast. Their solution was to jack up my NHL CI costs and provide me less games. I'd understand it a little better if they rebated me some $$$s for the games I paid for and won't see. I can grumble my way through the occasional Vs Sabres game I miss, but what happens when the Sabres make the playoffs and their games are carried on Vs? I don't see them beating a path to my door offering some form of compensation. They are asking more money than ever and delivering far less product than ever. Yeah.. It's all Comcast's fault. I declare BS. If I had any other way to watch the Sabres/Bills I'd be gone from DTV in a New York minute.

call them I got 50$ one time credit for stating issues with VS and the MSG HD issue. MSG HD is Dolans fault nothing to do with the CI provider just Rangers owners and debates with NHL. The NHL has issues however the NBA doesnt. The NHL was stupid for bypassing ESPN for VS ( Outdoor channel or whatever it was called )

Are we talking about VS, or the MSG HD issue, or Center Ice? Separate issues. On Versus, yeah, DirecTV could be as much to blame as Comcast, if not more. Not true on the MSG HD issue, as they are just following contract stipulations, as are every other provider. And jack up Center Ice? I don't think so. What was the offer, a few bucks more than last season?

If Versus is a big enough issue for you to leave, by all means do it. Personally, I'll never go to cable. And if costs are really your concern, most people have found a simple call to a retention rep gets you big discounts. I'm paying $150 for Sunday Ticket with SuperFan, and I paid $78 for Center Ice. Try that with cablelaugh.gif

I'm not talking about MSG. I'm only referring to DTV's CI and their promise to give me up to 40 out of market games per week. I'm out of market. They are in breach of that agreement. They continue to advertise this deal even though they aren't delivering it. I consider a jump from $149 to $169 significant, especially considering they are now dropping ~ 20 high profile matchups. VS also has rights to cover the early rounds of the playoffs. Where's my rebate for missing the most important hockey games? Sorry sir.. It's Comcast's fault. They are holding us hostage to higher rates.

You have a great deal on your renewals. So that pisses me off even more. They are selling you the same product they are selling me for substantially less. They want 400 for Sunday Ticket + Superfan. Don't get me started on how big a rip off that is. Why is your deal so much better? Why should I have to threaten to leave to get a $50 discount? I've been a loyal customer for years.

Oh, this is the MSG HD thread, so pardon the confusion. First of all, Versus is not part of the NHL Center Ice package. So, if that has upset you so much to leave, then by all means do it.

Second, how are they breaching any contract? You say they promise up to 40 out of market games per week, and you're getting them, including the MSG feeds.

Third, NHL CI on DirecTV went from $159 to $164. If that's jacked up, then I can see where you're coming up with Center Ice dropping 20 high profile matchups (they're not). Go to cable, where you can pay the same price as everyone else, with no chance of negotiating better terms.

Okay I see your point. My beef is purely with DTV-Comcast dispute. I still believe DTV is dissing their loyal customers. So you never answered the question. Why is your deal so much better? I'm guessing employee discount, bosses daughter, etc..

If we narrow this down strictly to the Versus issue, then DirecTV has more than it's share of blame. There's some bigger picture posturing going on, and we the fans/customers are suffering.

As for discounts, every year during the summer it's become an annual game of calling up and politely asking about SuperFan, and getting it comped. Basically anyone who wants to play the game can get it. You don't have to threaten to leave, or get nasty. To the contrary, politeness always works best. This year, with the economy, they were even more generous in their offers. As for hockey, I've never asked for a discount before, but this year because of Versus and the MSG HD issue, they gave me an offer that brought it down to where it did. Some have done better, some not. Not everyone is aware of or likes to jump through these hoops, but personally I am happy they are willing to talk if you have a beef.
