Running Miller....Surprise: No Response

Yikes - Fleury missed 36 games with a similar injury (yes, I know, I know - all ankle injuries are different, so-and-so had an injury that kept him out of the lineup for 10 minutes - I get it.) If Ryan misses anywhere near those numbers we're dead in the water. I can delude myself into believing that Lalime can hold the fort a week to two weeks, but more than than and I just can't convince myself that we'll be OK.

According to the Buffalo News, Nick Eno, a Sabres prospect, had the same injury. He suffered it in pre-season on September 24th. Was listed day-to-day and didn't return until January 9th.

Yeah, those type of recovery time numbers scare me.

You truly believe that? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA

Well, have you see any evidence to the contrary?

And by this I don't mean us running goalies, I mean have you seen any evidence point to the fact that this is a team that ISN'T afraid of playing a really nasty game?

You know they are, and I don't mean this as a negative thing, I was just pointing out that your logic is flawed when you say other teams don't retaliate out of fear for doing "something stupid". They most certainly DO retaliate, and if they don't do it right away, they do it later. Not every team of course, but most of them do, regardless what you think.

And the Sabres SHOULD be afraid to play instigator in this game, cause they have more to lose then gain by playing it, but in this case that game landed in their laps.

But as always, people read what they wish to read.

I never said other teams wouldn't do it. We are in a tight playoff race, with many clubs, including the NYR. That was not the time to do anything stupid. And yes, i truly believe that. If the Sabres had any intention of going after Gomez or someone on the NYR, that thought ended as soon as NYR scored seconds after the first faceoff after Lalime was in goal.

I thought the Sabres played a very tough, physical game vs. Anaheim a couple of weeks ago. It looked like they had heard a lot about how physical Anaheim was and they were determined to be the aggressor.

On a related note, I thought when Tallinder, Teppo and Spacek were out, and Weber, Paetsch and Gragnani were in, and Rivet had just recently returned, the D was more physical than I can remember in quite a while. It seems like some of that physical play has dissipated with the return of the regulars.

You're missing the point. The Sabres had no intentions of doing anything. That's why fans are frustrated. This teams reputation of being soft wasn't born this season. It's culmination over many seasons where this team refuses, except for one or two occasions, to respond when physically attacked.

Wasn't that because they were thoroughly embarrassed in Anaheim last season. They were beaten and punk'd off the ice. It appears to be the only time the Sabres are willing to do anything. I do expect the Sabres to play with their panties in a bunch for a couple of games after being embarrassed Saturday night. After that they will fall back into Team Pu$$y mode.

I found this curious quote on a Rangers board that suggests that Gomez is not a boy scout in the Miller situation..

The author is hockey writer Rick Carpiniello.

Scott Gomez ran into Buffalo?s goalie and it was a borderline cheap shot. But this is what Gomez used to do in New Jersey. That?s probably another good sign that he?s morphing, at least to a degree, back into the Good Gomer. We?ll withhold judgment.

I agree wit everyone, this is a time for the team to find some character. Lalime is a bum, sorry for those who like this guy but he doesn't control the rebounds and is out of position too much. That combined with our soft D, spells disaster over a long haul! The thing that pisses me off, is that everyone runs our goalies and we run no one's! I believe we play the Rangers again! I say let Kaletta tee up Lundquist and if he gets run for the season he get's run. Rivet? he is a bum too......Captain my ass! A good Captain would have laid the lumber to anyone in any of these games where he got run....like in Ottawa....what was it like 4 times miller got run! Cut Peters now.....if this guy is not good enough to be on the bench every night to take on those who run Miller why have him!

To all those people who always complained about fighting in this league , I hope you now understand why Miller is out...Let the goons back in and let the players who run players pay the piper! No one ran Gretzky because you danced with McSorely if you did!

I only hope Enroth is a diamond in the rough!

Damn, I wish I could remember the last time we were worried that the Sabres weren't "tough enough," the Sabres responded by just playing good hockey, and then the other team's coach got fired.

Oh. That was the Flyers. I DO remember! Or wait--was it the Sens?

So, the "book on the Sabres" is out again. Rough 'em up, tell 'em to play dirty (I still don't think Gomez did), and you're coaching your team to success, right? So far, that's worked for...Hitchcock, Renney, Hartsburg, Paddock, Maurice, Quinn, and Burns. Quite a Hall of Fame of success against Buffalo, there.

TRUST THE TEAM. It did what it was supposed to do.

You said this wasn't the ECHL or some beer league, I took it you meant it didn't happen in the NHL.

My mistake.

Look, I can completely understand the sentiments from the crowd that don't believe that running other goalies is the answer.

I'm sure most of us in a heated moment like this come off as froathing savages calling for blood from the opposition, regardless of the cost.

The fact remains, I know very well that going and running other teams goalies or skill players is likely to hurt a lot more than do any good down the stretch.

What is understimated I believe, is the value of a single game once in a while in which the team basically goes apeshit and runs both the opposition skill guys, go barreling into the crease and initiate push and shove at any given chance. Just show that you care once in a while, that's all anybody's asking.

Also, it can always be argued if standing up for your goalie will keep other teams from running him, but I don't think it can doubted in any way that not standing up for your goalie at all encourages such behavior?

Right or wrong, you protect your goalie and go after anyone who hits them. It probably will not prevent it from happening again but it is the unwritten rule of hockey. STAY AWAY FROM OUR GOALIE!!. Simple as that. If anyone on this board ever played hockey, what did you do when the opposition hit the goalie? You can argue all you want but you fight back if someone hits the goalie!! How can some of you not understand that?

Does anyone ever watch the Sabres Broadcast and listen to Robataille? The man did play in this league when there were enforcers and if you ran a skill player or goalie.....Someone paid! I respect a man who played in this league for years. I played the game and still do, you run a player or Goalie, you better lookout! Goose is a no enforcer neither is Peters! Ray, McGuire, Playfair, Schonfeld, Korab those guys were tough! Goose plays hard but is not a fighter. I laugh when he tries to take his pretty boy face into a scrum. I feel for Miller, the guy is like a wet noodle.....and plays his ass off! The Sabres owe him!

Just on a sort of related note, anyone else notice the Sabres stand up for Lalime a lot more than Miller?

I have not noticed this! Are you the president of the Lalime Fan club? If so, do not bother to send me any info.....next season he will be ice fishing in Canada! He is a bum! He is so good and so well liked that Ruff has zero confidence in him to give him any quality time on the ice! He is no better than that cut out we had in the nets behind Ryan last year!

Don't hold back. Tell us how you really feel. Lalime's the starter until Ryan returns and as fans of this team we have to ride this streak out with Lalime in goal. Time will tell....I still think that its a little early to start bashing on Patrick when you have 5 other guys that play in front of him. The Sabres streakiness is not all totally Lalimes fault. And we as fans can't expect Lalime to be Ryan Miller either. Good or bad it is what it is.

So, what you are saying is that Lalime sucks and there is nothing that can be done about it.
