Gomez is a pretty dirty player. The only reason he's not called on it more is that is not his role. I can't wait until he gets his.

Ok. Where's the evidence of this? Seriously, "dirty?" I just haven't seen that, but maybe I haven't watched the right games or read the right articles. But if there's something to that claim, please bring it.

Raleigh--I think you're right.

Look, I hate that Miller had to leave the game, but there's a difference between a dirty (EDIT, after re-reading Raleigh, it may not even have been dirty) play by a decent hockey player, and the goalie-running that we see in Senators and Flyers games (most of which is not called). I really think that if Gomez was a guy who's seen as a cheap-shot artist in the NHL, the Sabres would have responded. He's not, and they just took it in stride, got the two points, and they'll move on to Tuesday.

Why would it matter who it is? It's OK for players to run the goalie if the guy doing it is a nice guy? This isn't a one time incident. This is a long pattern of team indifference to the health of their goalie. I hope the team enjoys the feeling when they work hard and take a look at the scoreboard and are trailing because Lalime lets in those weak goals that had him out of the NHL a couple of seasons ago.

Because when a known a#$^$#!e hits someone like Drury, the team responds. You all presume the team didn't respond out of weakness. I think the team didn't respond because they knew it wasn't purposeful.

I watched the pirates play in the first period last night in Philadelphia. He looked shaky at best in the 1st and only gave up 1 goal. They ended up giving up 7 in that game. Not exactly a good time to make your first appearance on the NHL roster.

Maybe he's struggling now, but unfortunately there's not much else in the system. wildcat can confirm or clarify, but I think he's also been a little overworked lately.

Miller was just interviewed...high-ankle sprain. Significant limp, no crutches, no broken bones.

:censored:

A little face wash for knocking out Miller. Gomez will take that trade every time. So will every other team the Sabres face.

Yeah I know... Just thought it weird that it was Timmy.

I live in the NYC area so I've seen plenty of Gomer to make that call, with the Devils and Rags. Like I said, I didn't say I wouldn't take him on the Sabres, but he will definitely flirts with the rules.

Swamp, I'll trust you on that, but I don't think he has a league-wide reputation for dirty play. (Other Devils (Lemieux? Niedermayer?) had that rep, and certainly, we needn't start naming Rangers--we'd be here all night.)

High ankle sprain is not good at all. We're looking at 2-3 weeks minimum. Probably longer.

Couple this injury with Vanek's and I'd say playoff dreams are pretty much over :censored: :wallbash: ...unless Lalime and our collection of underachieving forwards (Hecht, Kotalik, Afinogenov, Paille, Pominville, MacArthur) get their heads out of their arses.

I'm ok with it, actually. Now Lindy won't be able to wear him out, and he'll be back just in time to get ready for the playoffs.

You're right. He's more in that nasty, I'll do what it takes to win way, that we as Sabres fans yearn for...but is no less "dirty". I would have loved to see him run.

While I know everyone is upset about what happened tonight, call me an optimist, but I think the Sabres can get through this patch of games with Lalime. If we assume Miller is out for a week or two, and we look at the schedule, we're looking at Anaheim, Carolina, the Islanders, Canadians, Coyotes, and Senators are the next six games. All are very important games, but having seen the way Lalime played against Carolina, I have some faith in him playing and playing well. Additionally, when he was put in this position last season when Khabibulin went down, he went 16-12-2. I think you will see a much better Lalime as he gets into a rhythm. It's much harder when you play once in 7 games vs. playing regularly. Call me optimistic and hopeful, but I think Lalime will play well. And, in his defense, in a lot of the games he's played this year, the team in front of him has been absolutely horrible, much worse than they have played in front of Miller. So, if the team can play well in front of Lalime, I think he'll be good enough until Miller gets back. It's this type of adversity that the team can rally around that can push them into the playoff run. This will be a challenge, but the team has no choice but to step up their effort.

This sounds an awful lot like the same old excuses the Sabres have been using for years as to why they don't protect their own.

Re-read and re-think (ok, maybe not a "re" on that last one, with you; just try thinking for the first time). Part of the "code" is recognizing what is purposeful and what isn't. You've never seen a Sabre play aggressively, without intent to injure, but still causing injury?

Posted

Seriously? Intentional? I am as pissed off as the next guy about this injury but being a player myself, that kind of play happens ALL of the time. I can't even count how many times I have been forechecking hard and got my feet tangled with the goalies feet. Sucks that Miller is hurt, but Gomez did not try and hurt him. Gomez would have 2-handed him or pasted him into the glass if he was looking to take Miller out.

The "Code" is to protect your goalie at all costs. I really don't know which is sadder. The team showing no heart by refusing to protect Miller or fans excusing it away.

Ok.... fun game to watch, other than Miller down of course....... just have to say that it seems pretty certain that Scotty wouldn't do that on purpose....

I have been worried the last 5 games or so that they're tiring Miller out (has reminded me way too much of last year's Sabres).

Lalime should've been playing tuesday vs. Ducks anyway. I'm going to BUF@CAR Thursday and would like to see Miller though!!

Pommers still looks lost as hell out there.

Good to see Tallinder back, no doubt.

Also, I really liked the lines today. I hope they stay the same for Anaheim.

DeLuca, I'll give you this: you've got me nearly speechless. You're just wrong on this one, is all.

Only Gomez knows what he intended to do.

It doesn't matter if he intended to do it or not. I can't believe that players on the ice watched Miller get run into and then crawl back to the crease and the first thought to come into their mind was "I don't think he intended to do that." Maybe I'm just too old. If this happened during the 70's -80's the game would still be going on right now with all of the penalties.

Agree on both accounts.

I'm with you. Intent is irrelevant because, on this play especially, intent cannot be known. The points be damned, the response should have been as a pack of Banshees. What Lindy wanted from a strategic point of view shouldn't have mattered. But we all know it's not in this team's makeup, so the debate is moot.

I tell you this, if anybody as much as sneezes on Lalime Tuesday there better be retaliation. I too was suprised there was no action just after the incident. At the very least Gomez should have a had mouth full of a Sabres elbow just to get his attention.
