G.M. Posted February 18, 2009 Report Posted February 18, 2009 I?m terribly sorry for spelling Nathan Gerbies name incorrectly. I keep forgetting its Gerber and not Gurby. I keep getting him confused with Rudy, that is, Gerbie Gerburger, sorry that?s Rudy Rudigar. Oh I?ll figure it out eventually. All kidding aside what does Nathan Gerbe have to do to stay with Buffalo? Well the only small center I can compare him to was La La. At 5? 10?? Lafontaine towers over the ?Glob fly?, see (http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Glob_fly.) by more then 4 inches and a solid 22 pounds. Nathan Gerbe HEIGHT: 5' 6" WEIGHT: 160 SHOOTS: LEFT Pat Lafontaine HEIGHT: 5' 10" WEIGHT: 182 SHOOTS: RIGHT Firstly, I believe that Lindy Ruff, who came out a bit in public against him, if you heard some of the quotes on WGR today, most likely has him worried more about his commitment to defense then scoring. Its great that Gerbe comes back hard on the play but all that effort has him back in the minors. Much in the same way that Ruff came out against Afinoganov when he was a rookie what 8 goals in like 12 games but Ruff had to come out against afinoganov?s defense? In like fashion Ruff comes out against Gerbe?s lack of production. Its obvious to me that it is a simple matter of Ruff, once again not being able to handle a young player? I mean how many seasons has Afinoganov played for Buffalo? Every year I see Afinoganov play he always seems to be the hardest working Sabre game in and game out, I mean by far by way way far. I mean Lindy is just figuring out that Afinoganov is a Defensive Liability even though the Sabres record is actually better with Afinoganov in the lineup. There is no Sabre that can control play along the boards better then Afinoganov or has more raw audacity to skate through center then anyone on the team. The sabres transition game, and overall speed suffers as a result. Hey Ruff, when you challenged Vanek to be the best winger in the game what did you ever do publicly to nurture Afinoganov rather then beat him down in public. In fact what have the Sabres ever done to surround Afinoganov with a playmaking center. I doubt Afinoganov is really even hurt I bet he is just sick and tired of Ruffs crap and being used as the sabre scape goat. I believe that Ruff is beginning to walk a dangerous line the way he is trying to force this overachieving team into further over-achievement I was almost positive he lost Miller with some of his comments earlier this year. Maybe certain Sabres just wait till free agency and make a quick escape out of this situation. Part of being a great coach is to know which players respond to negativeism and in which players cause broken hearts. Im not really sure if Lindy has that figured out yet. Not many flaws with that coach but this is one. Gerbe 1. Stop worrying about Ruff and play your game. 2. Stop taking shots from the outside, you have to come at the defensemen with speed and force an inside or outside move. You are being too indecisive. 3. Against defensemen, if you have speed you have to use it, coming in slowly or slowing down just makes you look scared and taking limp wristed wrist shots from just along the boards doubly so. 4. Stop trying to hit like Pat Kaleta, (it just makes you look more like a Glob fly), rather score some like Pat Lafontaine. :worthy:
carpandean Posted February 18, 2009 Report Posted February 18, 2009 Well the only small center I can compare him to was La La. I got to here before I started hearing something in the background: Gerbe is not a center; wasn't at BC; isn't in Portland; hasn't been here. This is a recording ... Start comparing him to wingers like St. Louis and Gionta.
thesportsbuff Posted February 18, 2009 Report Posted February 18, 2009 idk man your post might make sense but i just can't figure out how you get this impression: Every year I see Afinoganov play he always seems to be the hardest working Sabre game in and game out, I mean by far by way way far.

NowDoYouBelieve Posted February 18, 2009 Report Posted February 18, 2009 It seems like the less somebody knows, the longer their posts are. By the way, you may have gotten Gerbe right this time, but you got Afinogenov wrong.
cdexchange Posted February 18, 2009 Report Posted February 18, 2009 There is no Sabre that can control play along the boards better then Afinoganov
SarasotaSabre Posted February 18, 2009 Report Posted February 18, 2009 whew.....talk about a rambling post - the more words, the less a post makes sense. Gerbe has not yet shown he is NHL-ready - maybe he will be, maybe he won't. All this other nonsense about how Ruff is handling him is irrelevant.

Goodfella25 Posted February 18, 2009 Report Posted February 18, 2009 Perhaps this is just some kind of elaborate April Fool's joke that will culminate on the 1st of April when GM reveals he is just some other poster playing a trick... It has to be a joke. Nobody could possibly believe Afinogenov is 1) hard working 2) good on the boards. It's really not even a possibility. Not even children could believe such a thing.
Bigthuder1636 Posted February 18, 2009 Report Posted February 18, 2009 "There is no Sabre that can control play along the boards better then Afinoganov or has more raw audacity to skate through center then anyone on the team." Thats the line that got me. How many times has that audacity to skate it up the middle of the ice led to a Max turnover and an odd man rush going the other way. There is a reason why no one in the league wants him and it has nothing to do with how Ruff theoretically treats him.

He does control play along the boards, but it usually involves some type of sensational move which results in a turnover and odd-man rush for the other team.

darksabre Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 I stopped reading when I saw the word "Afinogenov".

Isn't Cheeze a Trekkie. Or maybe the Klingon reference was just to throw us of. Plus, don't all girls love Max.
NowDoYouBelieve Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 Isn't Cheeze a Trekkie. Or maybe the Klingon reference was just to throw us of. Plus, don't all girls love Max. Yes, all girls love Max. I was in my junior and senior years of high school when we went to the 2 championship series. Needless to say, the whole school caught Sabres fever, like the rest of the community. All the girls wanted to talk about was how cute Max was (and JP Losman, to some extent at the time). If I see one more pink Maxim Afinogenov jersey in my life, I might just snap.
Grinder42 Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 idk man your post might make sense but i just can't figure out how you get this impression: I actually agree with this man's view of Afinogenov! Max truly gives it his all and then some every game. OK, this will be unpopular with most, but if Ruff didt inherit a team headed for the playoffs and on an upswing from the Nolan years. Would we not just refer to him as another average player who lost his contact lense way too much, instead he is the most tenured coach in the league. I predict he will still be coaching here while Detroit and other fire coaches over the next several years. I like Ruff the man, he is out spoken and not afraid to call out players. However, he is not great at developing players that do not fit into his system. It is actually the front office that has failed to mesh with Ruff's philosphy. I mean, We might have Vanek for this stretch run if he was not called upon to block slap shots with his face! Honestly, I believe every player should play defense and play hard. The truth is Max has always played European Hockey! They rarely body check anyone and most do not like to be body checked! I for one have come to the conclusion that no matter what Ruff says or does he is untouchable.......maybe he deserves to be that or not.....but we have a team that is going to have to dig deep and find a few people to step up and fill in for Vanek! Drew Stafford is clearly one of those guys.....I would like to see Max stay and bring some skill to the powerplay...line #2. Pominville has zero place on a power play! I hope they find a buyer for Sekera and Paille! You want to talk about liabilities! Both players play out of position and are lazy! I look forward to an exciting finish.....love them or hate them at least the Bills and Sabres give us something to talk about! Could you imagine living in Boston or Detroit? Boring!
Lethbridge Broncos Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 not to be a total dick, but this has to be the worst thread -- in the history of the internet. oy vey. i mean, this constitutes a disgusting thread: 1) terrible analysis; 2) terrible articulation; and 3) no examples to support the proposition being offered.

It's the NHL, every player should be called upon to block shots when they have the opportunity. It's just a coincidence the shot hit Vanek's face, but I'm sure you already knew that. Yes, I believe that Ruff has earned cart blanche with this team. Sekera and Paille have both not played up to snuff, but they're young so we shouldn't be looking to sell them unless a good deal is on the table. Sekera has the potential to be the cornerstone of our defense in a few years. Yes, I agree that if Max has one place on this team, it is on the second line of the PP. However, that is the ONLY place I could see him contributing, so he is essentially worthless to the team. He is simply allergic to finding the back of the net. Maybe if he learned how to pass effectively that wouldn't be the case. He is the liability.

Like a fine 82 Bordeaux. sidenote: did I hear correctly somewhere they are making another star trek movie? Also Max just plain sucks with the Sabres..."He doesn't play the system..." You can't possibly defend that. He is not worth the $$.

Anzaloha Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 Its obvious to me that it is a simple matter of Ruff, once again not being able to handle a young player? This is the line I like best about his post. Not that all the rest isn't laughable as well! lets see: Miller Campbell Gaustad Vanek Roy Pominville Stafford There are more, but these are the most prominent players that have made their way up from the minors and have been successful in the NHL. To say that once again Ruff cann't handle a young player, is ignorant of you, as is your entire post. I doubt you could be GM of your own fantasy team.
