Bigthuder1636 Posted February 18, 2009 Report Posted February 18, 2009 I havent seen this guy play a whole lot, but I like what I have seen of him. I dont know what Colorado would want for him, but I would like to see them bring him in. He is only making 1.5 mil right now and isnt putting up the numbers that would necessitate a huge raise to resign him. He is only 28 and would soften the blow if Spacek leaves next year. I think this is the type of player that the Sabres would go after if they do anything at the deadline.

Unless Leopold is really physical or offensively gifted which the numbers don't seem to indicate. If either was the case why would Colorado let him go?

From what I have read it is partly to do with the fact that his contract is up so they are shopping to see what they can get.
inkman Posted February 18, 2009 Report Posted February 18, 2009 From what I have read it is partly to do with the fact that his contract is up so they are shopping to see what they can get. Afinogenov?

wonderbread Posted February 18, 2009 Report Posted February 18, 2009 How about we offer them Larry Quinn?

Lydman Sekera Rivet Butler <physical top 4 dman acquired via FA or trade> Weber Paetsch Spacek is let go in FA, teppo retires and Tallinder is traded at the deadline or in the offseason.
carpandean Posted February 18, 2009 Report Posted February 18, 2009 If we pick up another defensemen, it better be a truly gifted offensive defenseman (though, Sekera may get there) that can run the PP or another big, physical, right-handed defensemen who is solid in his own end first and foremost (e.g., Derek Morris.)
thesportsbuff Posted February 18, 2009 Report Posted February 18, 2009 so did you get this from eklund, or did eklund get this from you?? Jordan Leopold rumors are heating up big time and the Sabres are at the forefront of the latest talks...The Sabres are right on the edge here.

How many years has it been since the lockout? I think thats about as long as they have needed a physical Top 4 Dman, and every year we get the same thing, Darcy just brings someone up from the minors, re-signs Teppo, or brings in an under the radar FA (Lydman and Spacek). i don't see that changing. Tallinder will most likely still be here filling that spot and the young guys will fill any holes left by players leaving, thats just the way the front office builds.

Goodfella25 Posted February 18, 2009 Report Posted February 18, 2009 I just think this is exactly the kind of "blah" move the Sabres absolutely should not make. They either need to bring in somebody that brings something special to the table (tremendous skill, veteran leadership, playoff experience/gritty play), or stick with the guys they have. I honestly doubt he'd be much of an upgrade over Tallinder. They aren't going to make any kind of splash though, so I could certainly see Darcy trading for Leopold or someone of his caliber.
Bigthuder1636 Posted February 18, 2009 Author Report Posted February 18, 2009 so did you get this from eklund, or did eklund get this from you?? I wrote the post before the Eklund posted his article so take what you will from that.
BamBam Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 I thought it was my job to post Eck's Stuff. Maybe I'm getting traded to? :D Here is Eck's Latest... Deluca and BamBam to the Leafs for Future Considerations and a Case of Molsen.

Lydman Sekera Rivet Butler <physical top 4 dman acquired via FA or trade> Weber Paetsch Spacek is let go in FA, teppo retires and Tallinder is traded at the deadline or in the offseason. I wouldn't mind swapping Weber for Spacek in this otherwise ideal scenario. Weber looked like he needed more cooking time down in Portland.
BamBam Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 leafs want to dump their vets, not bring in more............................... Nice! I like that.
LabattBlue Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 Rivet? I knew Rivet wasn't overly physical, but he has been a disappointment in that regard just like Pratt was before him.
deluca67 Posted February 20, 2009 Report Posted February 20, 2009 leafs want to dump their vets, not bring in more............................... At least Bam and I will be strong on the boards.
apuszczalowski Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 At least Bam and I will be strong on the boards. And I'm sure that if both of you can lace up a pair of skates you could also crack the leafs lineup
deluca67 Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 And I'm sure that if both of you can lace up a pair of skates you could also crack the leafs lineup And you can guarantee there will be a response if our goalie gets run.
