He's questionable for tomorrow and, more likely, will return Thursday.
Hawerchuk Posted February 17, 2009 Report Posted February 17, 2009 Get yer head outta yer German ass Hecht!!
... Posted February 17, 2009 Report Posted February 17, 2009 Good to see Ellis on the second line. Maybe we'll see a little effort from the top lines this time around. The third line looks like the nappy-time line. Hope someone brings their blankie.

Sorry, but if you're not interested in playing, you shouldn't. It's that simple.
inkman Posted February 17, 2009 Report Posted February 17, 2009 This lineup is becoming frighteningly morose.
BuffalOhio Posted February 17, 2009 Report Posted February 17, 2009 Man, the loss of Vanek AND Gaustad really threw a wrench into the works. It just changes the complexion of EVERY line with both of them out.

I just hope these two can shoot the puck somewhere other than the goaltender's stomach. Ellis deserves to play on the second line. Him and Kaleta seem to be the only 2 guys (offesively) that give 100% from start to finish. Not to say these guys will score goals, but energy and grit wise, they've been key. Kotalik is the SUCK and will probably hinder Connolly's production. All that said, I'm still excited about tonight's game. I think they'll come out pissed off and ready to play...... or I hope..... whatever.... <_<
CallawaySabres Posted February 17, 2009 Report Posted February 17, 2009 Good job Lindy! He obviously saw that Ellis was one of the few guys who showed up against Carolina and is getting rewarded for it.
deluca67 Posted February 17, 2009 Report Posted February 17, 2009 Good job Lindy! He obviously saw that Ellis was one of the few guys who showed up against Carolina and is getting rewarded for it. Sorry, not one single player earned that distinction against Carolina.
CallawaySabres Posted February 17, 2009 Report Posted February 17, 2009 Sorry, not one single player earned that distinction against Carolina. Lalime and Ellis were the two that I saw
JohnRobertEichel Posted February 17, 2009 Report Posted February 17, 2009 It's amazing that only two seasons ago we were the highest scoring team in the NHL. We have 16 forwards on the team, and 10 of them are not currently producing. 5 of them have excuses: Vanek (injured-jaw) Gaustad (injured-shoulder) Afinogenov (injured-) Gerbe (NHL rookie) Peters (he's Peters) But the other 5 don't and will likely prevent us from making the playoffs this season: Paille (supposed to be a top defensive forward?) MacArthur (supposed to be a legit second scoring line threat?) Pominville (suffering from major case of contractitis, same ailment Vanek had last year) Kotalik (has been inconsistent for a while now, so no surprise) Hecht (total disaster of a human being right now...needs to just go away for good)

He is who he is. A 20 goal scorer that people will always want more from.
Eric in Akron Posted February 17, 2009 Report Posted February 17, 2009 2) Pominville's contract extension doesn't go into effect until next season. But it has already been earned and signed. No sense working for a pay raise.
LabattBlue Posted February 17, 2009 Report Posted February 17, 2009 Good to see Ellis on the second line. What is good about it? Ellis is a 4th liner, maybe a 3rd liner on a good day. When you put a guy on one of your scoring lines who has little skill, don't expect him to help a team that is offensively challenged more often than not.
deluca67 Posted February 17, 2009 Report Posted February 17, 2009 But it has already been earned and signed. No sense working for a pay raise. The initial thought was that, like Vanek, Pominville was feeling the pressure of the huge contract. You seem to be indicating that he feels his work is done and he has nothing left to prove. Taking into consideration the work it took Pominville to get to the NHL with his limited skating ability I'm not sure that is in his nature.

Yes that is what I was implying but given the point that you make, the contract can still affect his play this year. Even though it doesn't kick in till next year, wouldn't you feel the pressure to prove that they made the right decision?

When you put a guy on one of your scoring lines who has little skill, don't expect him to help a team that is offensively challenged more often than not. He is one of the few offensive players on the team who routinely battles for the puck in the corners and along the boards. If he has earned a spot on the second line, then good for HIM. Remember, this guy was picked up on waivers at the beginning of the season after bouncing around the league a little. Irregardless of the team, I'm happy to see someone get a little pay off for hard work. Connolly needs someone like Ellis to get the puck out - I noticed he (The Skill) seemed to be floating a lot the last few games. And Kotalik; between him and Connolly, who is going to go after the puck when it's deep?
LabattBlue Posted February 17, 2009 Report Posted February 17, 2009 He is one of the few offensive players on the team who routinely battles for the puck in the corners and along the boards. He may be good at winning battles along the boards, but I wouldn't call him one of the Sabres offensive(scoring) forwards. Currently you have Roy, Vanek, Pominville, Stafford, Connolly, Gerbe, before this year Hecht and on rare occasions Kotalik. Everyone else goes into the checking/grinder/agigator group including Ellis.
nobody Posted February 17, 2009 Report Posted February 17, 2009 Lindy will put Ellis back on the 4th line by the start of the 2nd period. Not for anything that Ellis does; just because that is what Lindy does.

Vanek is not in the lineup. What, do you think Ellis is on the second line permanently? He's up while Vanek and Gaustad are out. He'll go back down when the time is right - but for THIS game, it's nice to Ellis up on the second where he can show the slackers how to wiggle their fannies.

inkman Posted February 17, 2009 Report Posted February 17, 2009 wiggle their fannies. My dog does that when he gets really excited. Maybe he can play for the Sabres. I'm sure he'd get along with Ruff...ruff, ruff.
... Posted February 17, 2009 Report Posted February 17, 2009 I give up. :wallbash: I'm sorry. Here: You're right, there's nothing good about it. It just highlights our lack of offensive firepower. We're doomed. I hope the team is booking their tee times early as they will need something to do come playoff time.
Lethbridge Broncos Posted February 17, 2009 Report Posted February 17, 2009 haha, cute dog. what is that thing? lab/chow mutt? My dog does that when he gets really excited. Maybe he can play for the Sabres. I'm sure he'd get along with Ruff...ruff, ruff.
