Casey D Posted April 4, 2009 Report Posted April 4, 2009 Well the boys got the help they need. Win out, and they are in the playoffs. No excuses now.
Do You Believe Posted April 4, 2009 Report Posted April 4, 2009 For all you people out there that have still believe the sabres have a shot at the playoffs do not look now but rangers just lost 1-0 to boston. Now Buffalo has two games at hand and four points out and the rangers have to play MTL and PHI twice. I have to say if buffalo wins tonight I am feeling pretty good about the good old playoffs because FLA plays PIT tomorrow night. OH DO YOU BELIEVE?!?!?!?! -Do You Believe

Derrico Posted April 4, 2009 Report Posted April 4, 2009 Does this mean that we have our fate back in our own hands now? Were 2 behind Florida with a game in hand and 4 behind the Rangers with 2 in hand. If we win them both then technically Buffalo, Florida and NY could be tied in points through 79 games. I don't know about tie-breakers though.
SabresFanInRochester Posted April 4, 2009 Report Posted April 4, 2009 Yeah, the most points the Rangers can end up with is 95. If Buffalo wins out, they also would have 95. If Florida wins out, they too have 95. Buffalo would win the tie-breaker with Florida because they would have more wins than Florida. And they would win the head-to-head with the Rangers based on the season series. I think we are pulling for Montreal in Tuesday's Montreal vs Rangers game. That gives Buffalo 1 game to "give." (Or, if the Rangers win that game, then Montreal would be limited to a maximum of 96 points, which is still 1 point ahead of Buffalo's maximum, but also too close to call.) I will break it down when we get past NJ and Detroit.

SabresFanInRochester Posted April 4, 2009 Report Posted April 4, 2009 Hey mods, can we consolidate this into one post? This is a duplicate thread.

carpandean Posted April 5, 2009 Report Posted April 5, 2009 Big game tonight in Florida @ 5 pm. As much as it pains me to cheer for Crosby and crew ... GO PENS!!
sabresnutinphoenix Posted April 5, 2009 Report Posted April 5, 2009 2-1 Florida right now in the 2nd...
rickshaw Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 Since we're not making the playoffs, I have to pull for Florida to get in and knock out NYR. Come on Florida.
carpandean Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 Since we're not making the playoffs, I have to pull for Florida to get in and knock out NYR. Come on Florida. I know that we won't make it, but until it is numerically set, I can't cheer for either of those teams to win. If we do have to miss (most likely), though, I'd almost rather see Florida and the Rangers win out, and Montreal lose out. That would be a heck of a centennial season. They just lost Markov (3 weeks) and Schneider (season), so their resurgent PP should now be dead. They blew a lead against Ottawa last night and lost in regulation.
rickshaw Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 I'm not cheering for any of 'em really. In a perfect world, we get in along with Florida and those two original six teams can piss off.

Without the Sabres being involved I will watch some of the NHL playoffs, but none of it will be "Must See TV".
rickshaw Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 Without the Sabres being involved I will watch some of the NHL playoffs, but none of it will be "Must See TV". I still have the Canucks. Obviously The Sabres are my #1 team, but living in BC my whole life, Vancouver is #1A. It sucks when either team is out, but brutal when both don't make it, like last year. Hopefully the Canucks can go all the way, but I doubt it. All I know is I never want a Buffalo/Vancouver Final. That would suck for me, but rest assured. I'd want the Sabres to mop those Canuckleheads up 4 straight!
JujuFish Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 If Montreal and Philadelpia pull off regulation wins tonight, I'm going to continue to hope. *gag* Go Flyers and Habs! *gag*
carpandean Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 Drury has 2 goals helping the Rangers go up 3-1 late in the second. Looks like tomorrow really could be a must win (any less points than the Rangers or Panthers get tonight and they are officially eliminated.)

SabresFan526 Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 Buffalo now back of the Rangers by 6 points with a game in hand. Buffalo has to win out to make the playoffs. I have a tough time seeing them beat Carolina on Thursday even if they win tomorrow night as Carolina is on fire and they just absolutely annihilated the Islanders tonight 9-0. Florida did not win, which helps, but Buffalo has to win out to at least tie the Rangers and hope the Rangers do not pick up a point in their last two and that Florida does not pick up more than 2 points in their last 2 games. This is getting pretty dire and I just don't see it happening now.

It's very possible that Florida will lose to either Washington or Atlanta, and the Flyers are certainly capable of taking both against the Rangers, but I see the season ending no later than Thursday. Even if the Sabres don't lay an egg against Toronto, Carolina will be extremely tough, especially on the second night of back-to-backs, and of course the Flyers are also capable of losing to the Rangers. One of those three will likely go against the Sabres, ending it for good. It won't, but could you imagine if it came down to Sunday's Rangers-Flyers game?! That wait would be killer.
Buffalo Wings Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 It won't, but could you imagine if it came down to Sunday's Rangers-Flyers game?! That wait would be killer. I think I'd rather cut my heart out with a spoon than root for the Flyers, but if that's what it takes....
carpandean Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 I think I'd rather cut my heart out with a spoon than root for the Flyers, but if that's what it takes.... They already helped us by beating Florida last night. There will be plenty of time to root against the Flyers after they help us make the playoffs (and certainly if they don't help us.) But, for now ...
Corp000085 Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 Flyers play the rangers tonight Atlanta plays florida Gotta root for the flyers and thrashers for regulation wins tonight. It's very very faint, but there's still light if things turn out rosey after tonight.
