nfreeman Posted February 10, 2009 Report Posted February 10, 2009 Looks like Roy is back at center -- check it out. Connolly-Hecht-Stafford -- maybe this will get Hecht going Roy-Pommer-MacArthur -- time for Pommer to step up (and Mac too if he wants to get a raise this summer) Mair-Kotalik-Paille -- I'd much rather have Kaleta here than Paille, and I expect this to happen tomorrow night Ellis-Peters-Paetsch -- Petey may or may not sit in favor of Paille

At first glance at your post, it appeared Hecht was centering Connolly and Staff... And why would Kaleta not play before Paille, Paetsch, or Peters?

I'm assuming that Kaleta had the practice off for some reason. Side note: Not a bid deal, but I wish there were one universal standard for listing lines. Some use LW-C-RW (what I use because it is how they line up), some use C-LW-RW (I guess because it's the center's line with the subsequent wingers) and some just throw the three together in any order (what you did since Hecht is a LW, while Pommer is a RW, though your centers are consistent.)

nfreeman Posted February 10, 2009 Report Posted February 10, 2009 Those are pretty sad looking 3rd and 4th lines. I can live with it but the third line is really just a hodge podge of nothingness. I think it's safe to assume that the 3rd & 4th lines will be: Mair-Kotalik-Kaleta -- good speed, a 20-25-goal scorer, and 2 big hitters (not counting Kotalik, who is a pretty decent forechecker too) Ellis-Paetsch-Paille/Peters -- good speed and intensity (other than Paille, who will probably play also with some fire in the belly after being benched), the occasional goal and the enforcer when Petey dresses Neither of these is the French Connection, but what exactly do we expect out of the 3rd and 4th lines, especially when 2 forwards are out with injuries, creating a domino effect on these lines? Other than Detroit, which team out there has a materially better group of guys on their 3rd and 4th lines? (And, Carp, I'm a believer in listing the center first. Lindy refers to each line by the center's name.)
carpandean Posted February 10, 2009 Report Posted February 10, 2009 (And, Carp, I'm a believer in listing the center first. Lindy refers to each line by the center's name.) Personal preference. I'd call it Roy's line or Timmy's line, too, but when I look at a lineup, it is easier to picture LW-C-RW that C-LW-RW. However, if you use center first, your wingers should be consistent (put Pommer and Kotalik back on the RW.) ;)

I'd rather see Hecht and MacArthur on the top 2 lines instead of Floatalik.
spndnchz Posted February 10, 2009 Report Posted February 10, 2009 The article says that Bandicoot was out today for "maintenance", (I won't go there). But he'll play Wednesday. I'd expect Peters will sit, Patches is doing alright and if they play Sekera they've got a backup. Hecht-Connolly-Stafford MacArthur-Roy-Pommer Kotalik- Mair-Paille Paetsch-Ellis-Kaleta
FearTheReaper Posted February 10, 2009 Report Posted February 10, 2009 No thanks, I've seen Lindy do this too often in the past, and it almost never works out. If you got a line scoring, you ride that line until it cools off or gets figured out. Connolly can't puck the puck in the net for Pominville anyway. But i think its at least worth a try.Paille has potential. I dont think his play at seasons beginning was a fluke. He has shown he can be a physical force, who plays well both defensivly, and offensively. Hes been horrible for a very long streak, however. Maybe Paille needs a good sense of chemistry with the right linemates. Maybe Paille could free the puck up for Roy and Staff while playing solid in our own end. I just dont think throwing him on the 4th line gives him any confidence at all. Yeah,i do agree that you should ride out a lines scoring streak. But putting a line of underacheivers together is a little weird to me. In principle, having two slumping players together sounds insane. But anything can happen. Maybe Hecht and Pommer will sort it out while playing together. Connolly can set Pommer up,so he can bury it himself. I dont think Hecht will provide half as many great passes as TC,and thats not his game anyway. Hecht should be used as a corners guy,not a playmaker. But perhaps theres more to Ruffs madness than meets the eye. I always liked the idea of a "shut down" line, and most will agree, losing Dru killed that idea.Maybe Ruff intends for Hecht to fill that role. At least thats what it seems like to me. Hecht and Pommer together are a good basis for that kind of a line. Lol, i wrote this before i read about Roy back to center.

Seriously though, call up Gerbe and Kennedy and go to town. Gerbe/Connolly/Stafford Hecht/Roy/Pommers Kotalik/Kennedy/Paille Ellis/Mair/Kaleta
