Knightrider Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 oh , sure, sure smile all of you...... :bag: I wondered if you'd stop by... I do almost feel bad for Leaf fans...
Ohiofan Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 oh , sure, sure smile all of you...... :bag: Hi Millbank! Good to see you. Your boys looked a little flat tonight, eh? :D
darksabre Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 flat is an understatement. were they even on the ice?
jwcolour Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 We are now just 2 Points from going into a tie with Philly for the 6th... if we put a little run together we can get some extra space (read teams) between us and the dreaded 8th spot (well actually 9th)...
millbank Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 good to visit with you folks as well. ( good grief it seems every time I turn around from computer and look at television , i see another Sabre highlight. Its got to be some conspiracy trying to get me all upset.. ;) :w00t: Hi Millbank! Good to see you. Your boys looked a little flat tonight, eh? :D
millbank Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 Heh, i note you say almost... I wondered if you'd stop by... I do almost feel bad for Leaf fans...
NowDoYouBelieve Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 Miller needs just 16 stops for the SO...gotta be the easiest shuttie of his career. Vanek on the hattie, 5-0, doesn't get any better than this, guys. Leafs just flat out BLOW.
billsrcursed Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 Kaleta in the playoffs = Upper Hand If he can continue to disrupt and draw penalties like he's doing (and stay healthy) he could be a menace in the playoffs. This is the type of player Buffalo has needed. Everyone looked really good tonight, and I would include Paetsch in that group as well. He's played very well since coming out of the press box.

Kaleta is quickly becoming one of my favorites. He's a pest that draws penalties by playing physical hockey, not one of those pests that just yaps at guys til they hit him (I'm lookin' at you, Ruutu).
matter2003 Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 I didn't get a chance to watch the game tonite, but I just finished watching the highlights at NHL.com...The entire game seemed to be a highlight clip of the Buffalo Sabres...there was exactly 1 Maple Leaf highlight, which occured with about 6 minutes left in the 3rd period, and it wasn't even a real scoring chance, just a basic shot from the point Miller covered up...I think they figured they had to at least put 1 in there and if that was the best of the night, the Sabers must have completely dominated...I did hear at one point in the early part of the 3rd period the Sabres had 8 odd man rushes, so obviously Toronto was asleep at the wheel for the majority of the game... Also Stafford's goal was pretty freaking awesome...I don't know where he has come from the past 2 months, but he is a totally different player from the beginning of the year when they were talking about sending him down to Portland. Obviously to even attempt a move like that(he must have learned that from Connolly, who is the master of that one), his confidence must be sky high and to see him drive to the net and then finish like that just shows this kid has some pretty special talent inside of him that just needs to be brought out on a consistent basis...from what I heard his goal the other night where he fought off a guy in the corner and then took the puck to the net and scored was pretty awesome as well, Schopp and the Bulldog were raving about it the one day last week... If he can play like this consistently, he is going to be a rising star, especially since he is really responsible leading the team in +/- too...
deluca67 Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 I think the Oilers during the 10-2 drubbing gave a better effort than the Leafs did tonight. Congrats to Thomas Vanek. His hat trick tonight pushes him past Jim Lorentz into 15th place on the Sabres all time goal scoring list with 136. He is only 22 goals behind 14th which is held by Patty Lafontaine. He also passed Bill Hajt on the all-time points list in 30th place. He is four points behind Curtis Brown. Not too shabby for a player in his fourth year. I know it is blasphemy to criticize RJ or the home town broadcast. But after watching other broadcasts of Sabre games MSG really needs to step up it's game. It would be great if they toned down the Vaudeville act and concentrate more on hockey content. I know WNY hockey fans don't need a three hour tutorial like some new fans in new markets. It doesn't mean we don't like to have the game broken down to the X's and O's. More hockey less RJ setting up Harry for his bear in a phone booth lines.
NowDoYouBelieve Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 I'm excited for the coming stretch of games. First, it's the Canadiens who have a couple of recently injured players (Lang and Latendresse I believe), and they're dealing with some lockerroom issues right now and just not playing great hockey in general. Then it's two against the Senators, who we should beat twice without any problems. After that, a potential statement game against the Sharks. Of course, I don't EXPECT them to win that game, but man if we did the league would take notice pretty freakin quick. Anyway, I realize I'm putting the cart before the horse. First up is Montreal, but this stretch could be a great opportunity for us to shake off that "inconsistent" label.
FormerFreddie Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 Has anyone mentioned Roy's 1 on 4 breakaway? This had to be a set play that I've never seen before: Pominville carries the puck with two other Sabres to the Toronto blueline, and all three put on the breaks right at the line. Pominvlle leaves the puck right behind him and a streaking Roy splits all the Toronto defenders, who had come to a complete stop. Roy does not score, but this play was absolutely amazing.
wonderbread Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 I wish I had the time to go to the game tonight. I'm stuck at Jim's truck stop on Walden in Cheektowaga. Too much homework to do. :( Hahahaha what kinda homework do you do at a truck stop man? This just sounds kinky and immoral to me.
Eleven Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 That was a fun game to be at. I feel a little bad for Pogge--he's going to be a good goalie, but he was thrown into a bad situation tonight. I sat about twelve rows behind him for two periods; he had an incredible save on Stafford in the first that amazed the entire section (about a minute before Stafford scored anyway). And he stopped one Vanek breakaway, but it was in the second period, so I couldn't see it well. He almost stopped the second Vanek breakaway, too.

wonderbread Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 More hockey less RJ setting up Harry for his bear in a phone booth lines. How about this classic The Washington Capitals once lost two consecutive games in the final three seconds, prompting a classic comment from "Hockey Night in Canada" broadcaster Harry Neale: "That," he said, "is the most unheard-of thing I've ever heard of!"

When I went I found the a$$ who constantly pounds on the glass to be just about as annoying as anyone I ever came across at a sporting event.
