SarasotaSabre Posted February 4, 2009 Report Posted February 4, 2009 FYI for Directv viewers: the game is on the NHL Network in HD, ch. 215
SwampD Posted February 4, 2009 Report Posted February 4, 2009 If you have a image device (can't really say camera anymore because I imagine more people now only have their cell phone as their image device rather then an actual camera) take pictures. ;) See if you can catch DR pulling tubes like Michael Phelps.
ExiledInIllinois Posted February 4, 2009 Report Posted February 4, 2009 Carpandean, It's great when you put up the chart. I love seeing organized data  Really gives a visual of how they are performing. Wish we could sticky that someplace to keep it up. I love it too. Just games 16-20 haunt me... What a nice trend they were on and blew it!
Spudz Posted February 4, 2009 Report Posted February 4, 2009 That slide really hurt, especially for a team playing mostly .500 hockey for the year. They are lucky to have had a great start otherwise they would be in need of a serious win streak to get above that line. At least now they can focus one game at a time which is what I think they are doing. I'm a bit worried because I'm not so sure they can bounce back from another 3-4 game losing streak.

jwcolour Posted February 4, 2009 Report Posted February 4, 2009 Florida won last night putting them one point behind with a game-in-hand. That means 7th place and 8th place are not well defined at this point. They could be ahead, even or behind us through 51 games. Pens and Carolina both lost last night, giving us four and two point leads, respectively, with a game-in-hand on each. We need to stay up on the Panthers and we absolutely need to get as much separation as possible from the other two. All it will take is a short hot-streak by one of them or cold streak by us to put us right back on the outside looking in. We have some very tough games coming up (Montreal, Rangers, Sharks, etc., and even a team that plays us strong every time, Ottawa), so we need to get every point that we can. We can't squander opportunities against weaker teams. They have to come out strong tonight. With a strong effort, their chances are good, but if they come out slow and let the Leafs get ahead or even just hang in there ... Indeed.. the good news is the teams ahead of us aren't that far ahead of us and a small run could very well result in us jumping another team (Philly)... I believe Philly plays Boston tonight... if they lose and we win we are 2 points behind them... (im thinking really positive)
Knightrider Posted February 4, 2009 Report Posted February 4, 2009 Put it this way: since the lockout teams have needed 92-93 points to make the playoffs. Before the six games, we had 51 points in 45 games, meaning that we needed roughly 42 points (5 points over "0.500") in 37 games. Now, we have 57 points in 51 games, meaning that we need roughly 36 points (5 points over "0.500") in 31 games. We need the same points about "0.500" now that we needed then and have less games to do it in. Now, you can argue that you expect to be a little lower on the road than at home, but if we're counting on getting all of those 5 points in the 17 remaining home games, we could be in trouble. That's 11-6-0 or 10-5-2 or 9-4-4 (etc.) at home and we'd still have to make 0.500 on the road. It wasn't as bad as a six-game road trip could have been, but we're worse off than before the trip. Looking at the new year, we've gone 9-5, so we've gained 4 of the 9 points above "0.500" that we needed. That is very good, especially given the schedule, but the first eight games (6-2), helped a lot more than the last six. We need to start accumulating those extra points to make sure that we are playing in the second half of April and, possibly, beyond. For reference, this is points net of a 93 points (playoff) pace: Obviously, teams are a little below this pace right now, since we are just below, but are in 7th (maybe 8th through 51 games.) I've resisted asking to see that chart... Thanks.
wonderbread Posted February 4, 2009 Report Posted February 4, 2009 See if you can catch DR pulling tubes like Michael Phelps. DR doesn't pull tubes I saw him in the 300 level bathrooms doing gravity bongs outta the commodes
ROC Sabres Posted February 4, 2009 Report Posted February 4, 2009 Kinda random but on topic with the game tonight. As much as I liked 'shipping up to boston' and 'welcome home', I would really like to hear the first 40-50 seconds of bullet for my valentine - tears dont fall for the power play song. Check it out and tell me it wouldn't pump you up. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PWxqd90-XWI&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PWxqd90-XWI&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

DonInBuffalo Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 looks like the lines tonight are going to be: Vanek-Connelly-Stafford Kotalik-Roy-Pomminstein MacArthur-Gaustad-Kaleta Paille-Ellis-Mair
ROC Sabres Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 Anyone else in the rochester area watching the game with no commentators and only on ice audio? Feels like I'm at the game!
wjag Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 TC.. He's hot Nice feed from Rivet.. Buffalo: :worthy: Leafs:
jwcolour Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 Awesome shift by Vanek capped off with that nice play to Rivet to Tim
NowDoYouBelieve Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 As awesome of a skater as TC is, his best quality is his inate ability to just pound the puck home.
NowDoYouBelieve Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 I don't know if anybody cares, but Stafford was on the ice for the goal, and that means he's the first Sabre to be +10 this season.
wjag Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 I don't know if anybody cares, but Stafford was on the ice for the goal, and that means he's the first Sabre to be +10 this season. He might be the only one all season too..
NowDoYouBelieve Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 Outshooting them 5-0, and here comes the power play...let's bury this one in the first period
ROC Sabres Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 I'm really glad that everyone hates Kaleta. He's like our own clean version of Avery but keeps his mouth shut.
wjag Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 Bye, Bye Rivet... Took a puck off the angle...
