rickshaw Posted January 31, 2009 Report Posted January 31, 2009 I'll be brief. The Rockets hammered the Medicine Hat Tigers 10-1 on Friday night. It was an early present for my soon to be 10 year old son. We enjoyed seeing some pretty goals and the home team win. I paid attention to our two Tylers. Tyler Ennis. He had a beauty assist on the Tigers only goal. He is so quick, so nifty with the puck and skates very well. Tonnes of confidence and tonnes of skill. I'm not sure of his size but he didn't shy away from anything out there, although he does spin out from hits because he's so quick. Great stick handler. He's a very gifted player on the offensive side. Since his whole team played terribly I won't comment on his defense. Tyler Myers. Man he is big. He uses his reach very well, skates very very well for a kid so tall. His shot needs work. For someone his size, he doesn't yet have a big cannon. The play that made me happiest though was in the 3rd period. The score was 8-1 and the puck came around the boards in the Rockets' zone. The high fwd was waiting for it and the Tigers dman came in too pinch and leveled the Rocket player with a hard elbow to the back of the head as they met. No penalty? The next thing I see is big Tyler Myers race from the opposite side of the ice with the gloves off!! He went in with no hesitation and gave the Tiger player the business. It wasn't any huge fight, but he didn't give it a second though to go in and protect his guy in an 8-1 game after the cheap elbow. Loved it! Anyway, that's my report from Kelowna.

Great post man, thanks for the insider update, I was very impressed with Myers during the Juniors, he has a vast amount of potential............

Great stuff - very nice to hear some input from someone who has seen our prospects live. In person gives the opportunity to pick up on so many subtle pieces and I, for one, love getting these kinds of updates.

Two notes: (1) the commentator is an idiot because he continues to say that Myers didn't like being hit even after watching the replay where you clearly see that it wasn't Myers who was hit, and (2) the guy Myers went after is 6'3" (listed as, though the commentator says 6'5"), 203 lbs., so not a small guy either. Also, it was that guy's 19th birthday.
Lethbridge Broncos Posted January 31, 2009 Report Posted January 31, 2009 the two posts u guys have put on here are some of the best i have ever seen on this site. great work. the game notes and then the video -- just great, thanks. myers went in there with gloves off and full of piss and vinegar. he is still growing and will tower in the pros at about 6'7-6'8, 230-240 pounds when it is all said and done. he will be like hal gill. limited offense and good stay at home type. in 3 years he will be the linchpin of the sabres defense with sekara, butler, persson, weber and tj brennan. he is a little thin and needs to bulk up. raw, green project with great upside. lets hope eric wienrich, next season, can mold him for the pro game in 2 years. ennis is the real deal -- there is no doubt that he has all of the offensive skills. he is like a little water bug out there. in the WJC he was overshaddowed by the big name guys. he reminds me of stephen weiss for the florida panthers, before weiss blew his knee out and lost some of his once incredible speed, balance and control with the puck. i really like eniis and think he can score 30 in the NHL (and he will score 35 in the AHL before). he will be a PP guy with his gifted hands. Imagine the RUNT line of Gerbe, roy and ennis on the PP. oy vey...
carpandean Posted January 31, 2009 Report Posted January 31, 2009 Imagine the RUNT line of Gerbe, roy and ennis on the PP. oy vey... Don't forget Byron. Maybe we can trade for Martin St. Louis and bring Brian Gionta back home, too. Average height would be about 5'7".

Also, it was that guy's 19th birthday. The game was broadcast on Shaw Cable, which in this area of the world, is basically the channel that the local cable network has. It usually only runs an hour of local going's on so the game was not your top of the line commentators. Dan Russell was the guy screwing up the call there. He hosts the longest running sports talk radio show in Canada. We're talking over 20 years of radio. I'm not a big fan of his but he tries. Anyway, glad to see someone post the clip. Myers didn't come from the other side of the ice like I originally said, but you get my point. He made the pass that got his guy hit, although it wasn't a suicide pass, he knew that the hit was not nice and did what he had to do. That's all you can ask for. If only our current Sabres stuck up for each other all the time! One more thing about Ennis. The guy always has his head up when he has the puck. He has great vision out there and is very calm with the biscuit. I liken him a little to TC, hopefully without the injury problems.
nfreeman Posted January 31, 2009 Report Posted January 31, 2009 Good stuff. Thanks Rickshaw and Carp.

Eleven Posted January 31, 2009 Report Posted January 31, 2009 Cool. Thanks for the news and for the video.
shrader Posted January 31, 2009 Report Posted January 31, 2009 Imagine the RUNT line of Gerbe, roy and ennis on the PP. oy vey... So a completely perimeter powerplay? Any decent goalie is going to stop pretty much every shot he can see. Good luck getting any of those 3 close to a rebound alive if they're all skating together.
rickshaw Posted January 31, 2009 Author Report Posted January 31, 2009 I'm having trouble getting past the first point when getting the second. ;) I realize how that sounds now. Ennis seems to be gifted like TC, BUT Ennis keeps his head up. That sounds better.
