carpandean Posted January 30, 2009 Report Posted January 30, 2009 http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/2009/01/29/canucks_woes/ Despite adding prized free-agent forward Mats Sundin and welcoming back goaltender Roberto Luongo from a serious groin injury, Vancouver is suffering through a seven-game losing streak that has seen the team slip all the way to 10th in the Western Conference standings.------ The Canucks' confidence is in tatters and they were booed off the ice Wednesday night after a 5-3 loss to the Nashville Predators, a club-record eighth consecutive home defeat. One month to the day after Sundin arrived in Vancouver with his US$5.6-million contract, the Canucks are 1-5-2 with the big Swede in the lineup. ------ Sundin has been held to just two goals and an assist, has been in the penalty box for three game-winning goals and was serving a cross-checking minor when Nashville tied the game. :o Vancouver nearly knocked off the front-running San Jose Sharks before the all-star break but Sundin was foiled on a breakaway with a chance to make it 2-0. The Sharks tied it with 40 seconds left in regulation and won 2-1 on an overtime power play. Obviously, with the way hockey works, this trend won't continue (in fact, this thread may induce the hockey gods to get them going again), but it's funny for now.
carpandean Posted February 1, 2009 Author Report Posted February 1, 2009 Add another OT loss. Fans are starting to get a little restless:
rickshaw Posted February 1, 2009 Report Posted February 1, 2009 The team played hard last night, but ran into a very hot goalie. They came out nervous and battled back from 2 zip down and deserved to win, but that is hockey. Sundin is not the problem, nor the answer. A guy his age cannot take off 9 months and expect to jump back into form right away. The team needs a new coach, imo. The guy juggles his lines more than a circus clown juggler. They make mistakes that seem to be "coaching" related. Their effort is there, but they need a change. Sundin is not worth the money he makes but he may turn the corner. The question is, will it be too late for them. I think it may be over for Vancity. Losing 9 in a row at home (a franchise record) does not make hockey mad fans happy.
