"While the NHLPA's membership has issues with the current Agreement, the players and their Executive Board decided that due to the current economic conditions as well as the players' focus on continuing to help grow this game and expose our great athletes to many more fans, now is not the appropriate time to enter complex labour negotiations." Re escrow: NHL-NHLPA escrow payment has been set at 25 percent for the balance of this season. That means a quarter of each player's salary will be held in escrow in case the money is needed to help offset shortcomings in the league's projected revenue. The escrow payment level had been at 13.5 percent. There was talk on the "Hot Stove" of increasing it to 18-20%. Things must be worse than assumed before to make it 25%. Or maybe they just don't want to have to ask players for the money back later. They should thank their lucky stars they have a deal right now, they'd be stupid not to extend it.
