wildcat48 Posted January 21, 2009 Report Posted January 21, 2009 More changes for the Pirates Portland, ME ? The Portland Pirates roster has become a revolving door as of late, with injuries, illness and call-ups. Today is no exception, as Portland will have a couple of new players in the lineup tonight when the Pirates travel to Lowell for tonight?s game. Read the rest of this entry ?
carpandean Posted January 21, 2009 Report Posted January 21, 2009 Question: if a player with the ECHL signs a contract with Pirates does that mean that the Sabres own that player, contractually speaking? If one of these guys surprises everyone and starts playing great, can the Sabres call him up or would they have to sign him themselves first? I know that the chances are slim, at best, but I am just curious.
wildcat48 Posted January 21, 2009 Author Report Posted January 21, 2009 In theory, the Sabres are signing and paying the players and not Portland because they don't have a hockey operations dept. The hockey side of things in Portland are run by employees of the Sabres and not the Pirates, but if a player signs a PTO they can only play in Portland until they sign a two-way contract.
shrader Posted January 22, 2009 Report Posted January 22, 2009 Man, Goepfert is one shady character. He's got enough history now to show that he's pretty much out for no one but himself. The organization is better without him.
PromoTheRobot Posted January 22, 2009 Report Posted January 22, 2009 I thought the Sabres had an ECHL affiliate. We used to have on in the (Charleston) South Carolina Stingrays. PTR
