sjb012 Posted January 15, 2009 Report Posted January 15, 2009 First post...Hello to everyone! So, I know it was just one game with these three together, however they NEED to be productive if they are going to be our so-called "second scoring line". The effort out of all three of these players last night was unnacceptable at best. Hopefully in Dallas tonight they step up. Thoughts on this line? I just hate Hecht on this line.

Welcome to the board. and I just hate Hecht. Someone asked me my opinion a while back and I didn't have much to say one way or the other. Now I do. Move him.

Welcome to the board. Pominville needs to get his head out of his a$$. Unless he gets a pass directly on his tape he can't do anything with it. One of the best pieces of playing advice anyone ever gave me was "always expect the bad pass." He needs to realize that he isn't going to get that pretty pass anymore. I'm tired of watching his missed opportunities and I'm not talking about missing open nets, he's not even getting the shot off.
nfreeman Posted January 15, 2009 Report Posted January 15, 2009 I like Yo-yo, but he's having an awful year (and frankly so is Pommer). But Yo-yo just can't do anything in the offensive zone right now. Every pass is off, every shot is wide, he doesn't win battles for the puck -- he's just a void. And he brings his linemates down. He's like the guy in college that was referred to as "birth control" when he hung out with the group at parties or bars. I'd rather see Big Al or MacArthur (or Mair, Gerbe or Mancari, or Max or Kaleta when they return) on the line with Pommer and the Skill.
Patty16 Posted January 15, 2009 Report Posted January 15, 2009 Pommers is playing great!! well if you love half slappers from the right wing or blocked shots from the point.

bflobarry Posted January 15, 2009 Report Posted January 15, 2009 Hecht is playing terrible hockey right now and s/b on the bench. I'd put Connolly up w/ Vanek, as they are the only 1st line players on this team. And don't even get me going on Alice Kotalik- possibly the worst passer in the NHL. Our defense is OK on defense, but not one of them could hit an empty net from the blue line. Ugh!.....

Welcome and pretty fair observation. I think Lindy to be true to his early statement about benching or reduced minutes to the players not producing needs to move him down period. It's that simple and he should stay down until he starts to produce/play better. Hecht is playing terrible hockey right now and s/b on the bench. Alice has been in my doghouse for awhile now. As for the D, I find it maddening that they are so horrible , they take the shots at the worst possible times and rarely get it on or even too the net. This is something you can and they should be practicing. Good points both and again welcome..

carpandean Posted January 15, 2009 Report Posted January 15, 2009 I can't figure out what is wrong with Hecht this year. He used to be pretty good (but by no means great) on offense and great on defense. He was the best PKer on the team and, generally, the best two-way forward. This year, he hasn't been good in either end. I blame some of it on being away from his natural position on the wing, but clearly that hasn't been his only problem. He was expensive, but not ridiculously so, for the game he used to play. With the way he's playing now, he's terribly over-priced. Connolly is still not 100% either, so I definitely wouldn't put him up with Vanek yet (if ever.) He may take a couple more games to get back up to speed and, I suppose, playing him on a second line against non-conference opponents is a way to speed that up. Before this year, Pommer was best at scoring from 10-15 feet out. Unfortunately, those type of goals have been all but eliminated this years. Defenses collapse and push the shots to the perimeter and either block them or give their goalies an easy save. He may be best served by not actually trying to score with those shots, but instead put them where it is harder for the goalie to control the rebound, giving somebody the opportunity for a "garbage goal" on the followup. Of course, I'm not sure that Connolly and Hecht are the best for getting those rebound goals. Perhaps that's part of why the Ellis-Gaustad-Pommer line worked so well. If Lindy wants to keep Timmy on a second scoring line, then he should try something like: Vanek-Roy-Stafford MacArthur-Connolly-Pommer Hecht-Gaustad-Kotalik Paille-Mair-Ellis (The bottom two lines could be mixed up a little.)

I know I say this a lot, but I'm not scared of this lineup at all. Vanek is our only 1st liner, Roy is close but I still consider him a 2nd liner. Stafford has potential but has no business being out there now with those two. I'm sorry but Pommer is a 3rd liner along with Mac, Hecht, Kotalik and Paille. Gaustad, Mair and Ellis are all 4th liners, and of course Connolly is Connolly. We need to out work the other team and get breaks to win games, it's evident the talent isn't there. We need top quality players, then mix in the third liners/grinders. Can't we package a few of them up? I swear, some team out there needs depth. What we have now is an unentertaining losing team it's not good for the bottom line, and it's not good for the standings.

Vanek-Roy-Stafford IMO, Stafford does a good job and fills in on this line where the others don't. He's become more of a grinder in the corner, going in for the dump in first, taking the hit and getting the puck. I think he works well here. MacArthur-Connolly-Pommer Connolly can set up Pommers the way Briere used to. I'd call this the "where's the beef" line. Hecht-Gaustad-Kotalik Paille-Mair-Ellis Anything to keep Mair and Goose separated. They don't get each other. I counted at least two offsides where they got their signals mixed in Chicago. With Ellis I might put him with Goose, they seem to connect. Put Kotalik with Mair and Paille or move the General to the fourth line and put in Kotalik. (the latter more preferable I guess). Oh yeah, max in the press box. And what to do with Kaleta if he makes it back?
Patty16 Posted January 15, 2009 Report Posted January 15, 2009 right now after the first line, i dont think it matters who you put together,
