jwcolour Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 Wow. And the Steve Perry "Don't Stop Believin'" Award goes to SwampD. (BTW, I liked Vanek's slapshot idea a lot. The shot was there, he just didn't hit the net.) Pretty tough to pick a spot with a slapper though, there wasn't that big of a hole over the blocker in that corner.... I think it was only a good idea because I didn't think he was actually going to shoot it. For a guy with some moves i feel like i'd rather see him do what Pommer did. Snipe the corner, not power it through. Though I guess the slapper works alright for Chara, I guess the unpredictability from Vanek could be a good thing.
Two or less Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 And not to scoreboard watch, but what a gift tonight. Kevin Sylvester kept saying all night how Toronto is owning Carolina, since we're in that battle. We come back and get not only a point in a game we had no business in even being alive after the 20 minutes and get 2 points, Carolina gets 0 and i can not wait for the game on Saturday night. I'll be in section 300 loud and proud!!! LETS GO BUFFALO!
Eleven Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 I actually don't mind a shooter taking a slapshot in a shootout. You just got to have the heat to do it, and Vanek definitely has it. I'll support Vanek every single time he chooses to do that. Yep. And next time, when he fakes the slapper, it'll have some real threat to it.
ThePebble19 Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 man...K-Sylv did a nice job ironing that backdrop tonight...you can barely notice the creases. Way to be Kevin! Way to bring your A-Game tonight!
... Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 Did anyone hear Paul Hamilton during the second intermission totally dump on Roy "doing it Roy's way instead of Lindy's"? IMHO there is SOMETHING going on inside the dressing room because I think the raw talent is there. Perhaps it isn't Pommer's skittishness so much as it is Roy's rogue attitude?
SwampD Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 As Max-like as Roy has been, That was a HUGE goal in the shootout.

JohnRobertEichel Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 First star of the game goes to SwampD for his optimism  . I'm still very pessimistic about this team and this season, but it's always nice to see the good guys take 2.

I'll support Vanek every single time he chooses to do that. I dont mind it either, as long as it's on net, I've seen him take that same shot a few times and miss the net. To his defense, he has made it a few times too. I just think with his skill he's better off deking or shooting high glove. Turco was looking low glove from the replay.

I didn't, i had MSG on the whole time and not radio. But interesting take on it. I'm sure something had to happen. Just read the comments in this thread from the first period and look at the stats. Shots were like 12-5, we took stupid penalties. We played lazy and slow. I have no idea what they did and what kind of drugs Lindy gave them, but what ever it is that happened worked. They worked their butts off. They fought, won EVERY battle infront of the net, won fights on the corners and most importantly, out skated Dallas in their own barn. Hopefully the guys loved that rewarding feeling of the win and it helps us a bit. I know just 2 hours ago i posted how this is soon to be our "3rd loss in a row" but.... we play home to Carolina before a trip to Florida. No reason for not taking 6 points before the All-star Break, which would be really rewarding considering i'd be a 4 game win streak.
SwampD Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 I agree! SwampD gets the SabreSpace Optimism award. Our only 2 losses THIS YEAR were against Detriot and Chicago. Basically 1 and 1A right now in the West. I never thought we were as bad as people thought. I just didn't think we were going to lose tonight. And oh yeah, even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while.
JujuFish Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 That was fun to watch. It was 3-0 when I turned the game on, so I basically got to see Buffalo outscore Dallas 4-1, Miller play brilliantly in the shootout, and then Buffalo win the game.

I just texted my friend, "wow, what a fvking game" and he responded by saying "what was the final? i turned it off at 3-0" LOL ouch. He has no idea what he missed. And Paul Gaustad is his favorite player. lol

To me it's clear as day that they have the talent; when they "turn it on" they seem able to overwhelm any team. So the only conclusion is that the problem is in their heads (and hearts). I mean, like you, I expected them to coast to the loss as-per-usual. Why don't they just play the system consistently like Detroit or Boston does? Why does Roy have to take Max's place as the token dipsy-doodler? Why on most nights does it seem like Pommers is afraid to take a hit on the walls, and the rest of the team is too metro-sexual to forecheck? Why don't they take exception to a teammate getting roughed up and go hunting other players? The talent is there - the heart to execute it is not and that's because their heads aren't on right - something is poisoning their spirit.
deluca67 Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 Wow! Coming back from 3-0 against the 13th best team in the Western Conference. Again this team plays 10 minutes out 60 and steals points from one of the leagues bottom feeders. The Sabres do have two things going for them. 1) The Eastern Conference is as weak as it has been in a really long time. 2) Miller seems to have regained his touch in shootouts.

They're a very hard working team when they want to be, it just seems like they're a bunch of part-time workers, not too keen on working full-time. There's definitely something keeping them from functioning upstairs on a regular basis.

SwampD Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 My thoughts. -Great win -I still hate our team defense. Our wingers doing figure eights does nothing for me. -GOOSE!!! -Again, Roy's goal in the shootout was HUGE. -Let's hope the Pommer's GWG in the shootout gives him the confidence to make him the star that we think he can be. -Let's not forget about Miller's performance in the SO. I was actually surprised when they scored A goal.
Stoner Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 Don't you guys remember Vanek's SO slapper against Munreal? YouTube it.
JujuFish Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 You are "hardworking" or you are not "hardworking". If you do it part time you are not "hardworking". That's one of the most retarded posts you've ever made. And that's saying something.

Stoner Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 There's only one thing you can say after this one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FKR3QU3dB0M
jwcolour Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 If I was the Dallas coach that guy would not be playing for a game. What a hot dog I think that stuff used to work for him at the beginning of the year... not so much now
deluca67 Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 That's one of the most retarded posts you've ever made. And that's saying something. Would you like to explain why it's a "retarded post" or are you just trying to be funny? If you are trying to be funny you might want to learn from those who are really good at it.
