inkman Posted January 14, 2009 Report Posted January 14, 2009 http://www.buffalonews.com/258/story/549059.html Like I said above, what has Hecht done recently to deserve 2nd line status? I think it has more to do with line chemistry rather than who deserves to be where. Hecht-Briere-Pominville was quite the line a couple years ago. Perhaps Lindy is hoping Tim can play the Briere role and ignite Pommers and Jochen.
BetweenThePipes00 Posted January 14, 2009 Report Posted January 14, 2009 I have less of a problem with that line than I do with Numminen never coming out of the lineup. Connolly only has so many games in him ... not trying to take a smart-ass shot at him, just saying when he is healthy there is no point wasting him with Matt Ellis. That line has been good in the past and while I agree Hecht has been a big disappointment, he has always been at his best with Pomminstein (and vice-versa). As for Teppo, I guess they have had 3 days off so he should be fresh, but they really need to start giving him some nights off ... tommorow at Dallas would be a nice start and one of the back-to-back Alberta games too ... if they want his experience to be a factor late and in the playoffs, they need to give him a break.

I know you are right, but Hecht has become my new poster boy for all that ails the team. Its not really fair but I don't have to be fair.
Two or less Posted January 14, 2009 Report Posted January 14, 2009 I have less of a problem with that line than I do with Numminen never coming out of the lineup. While i agree with you on both accounts, i don't have a problem with that line and i do dislike the idea of Teppo never getting out of the lineup, however, i think tonight would have been the worst time to take him out. I actually thought he played pretty solid against Detroit. I thought he was actually one of our better defensemen in that game. I thought Toni Lydman played like pure garbage and cost us a lot in that 3rd period. I think he should be the one sitting right now after such a poor effort in Detroit.

I don't put much weight into any numbering that goes along with the lines. We have a top in in the Vanek-Roy-Stafford group and then 3 interchangeable lines.
Stoner Posted January 14, 2009 Report Posted January 14, 2009 As I've said, Lindy loves to overcoach. Blow things up. He seems to have cut the legs right out from under Ellis, who got the fewest amount of ice time of any Sabre against Detroit. Someone please tell me what was wrong with the goaltending rotation to start the season? Both Lalime and Miller were sharp, playing off each other in a friendly competition. Lalime had three starts in nine games and the Sabres were 6-1-2. It looked like Lalime playing every third game, only a little more than what they planned, was the ticket. Lindy apparently saw something else. Was it the loss to the Senators? Now, poor Lalime has to play for the first time in almost three weeks, in Chicago, against one of the best teams, and play well. See you in early February.
apuszczalowski Posted January 15, 2009 Report Posted January 15, 2009 http://www.buffalonews.com/258/story/549059.html Like I said above, what has Hecht done recently to deserve 2nd line status? Bigger question to me is "What has Timmy done recently to deserve 2nd line status?"
carpandean Posted January 15, 2009 Report Posted January 15, 2009 Bigger question to me is "What has Timmy done recently to deserve 2nd line status?" Good question. Lindy said that he expected him to take 5 or 6 games to get back up to speed, but added that it was tough to judge him since they had one PP in two games. He must have liked what he saw in practice to bump him up. I'm guessing, however, that he didn't like what he saw tonight. Timmy is definitely not at game speed yet. He didn't do much 5-on-5 and I didn't see him quarterbacking the power play either. This is why I and others have said that, unless he comes back for a long stint, they were better off if he weren't there. Last year, he played over half the games, but it was so intermittently that it hurt more than it helped. This year has been even worse. He's contributed in maybe five games so far and none of them have been recently.
deluca67 Posted January 15, 2009 Report Posted January 15, 2009 Bigger question to me is "What has Timmy done recently to deserve 2nd line status?" Bigger than that question to me is "What has Timmy done to deserve a roster spot?"
carpandean Posted January 15, 2009 Report Posted January 15, 2009 Bigger than that question to me is "What has Timmy done to deserve a roster spot?" Duh ... he was payed a lot of money by the Sabres over the last two-and-a-half years without any return, so they are trying to get something for their money. (Just in case it wasn't clear, I am totally kidding.)

See you in early February. Screw Lalime, the Canucks waived Curtis Sanford. The Sabres should be all over that upgrade. 2.59 gga and a .906 sv%. If the Sabres had a GM I would have to guess he would be all over that waiver wire.
