Normally we don't do this on this forum, but this rumour i'm sure everyone has heard about. I'm just wondering what you guys think of the impact that Vinny Lecavalier would have if he was traded to Montreal? Would it make them the best team in hockey? They have won 7 of last 8.

The proposed deal supposedly is....

Vinny for Tomas Plekanec, Christopher Higgins, PK Subban and another prospect or pick.

Thoughts?

If that's all the Habs have to give up I have to imagine another team can out bid them. Not the Sabres of course.

Yeah, but the reason why the return is so little is, after this season, Vinny's new deal kicks in.... $10 million per season, for the next 4 seasons. So, it's those 4 players, plus Tampa would have room to sign a free agent plus tank the season and draft John Tavares. In theory, it makes sense. I just think it's almost giving Montreal the Cup.

I doubt the free agent and Tavares would be as good as Vinny. Anyway, Tampa doesn't need to dump Vinny to have a great chance at the #1 pick.

When was the last time a trade deadline deal led a team to the Cup?

^^ excellent point. Marion Hossa last year is a rare example of a player who is dealt at the deadline that makes a difference. However, i don't have the research will to find out, but i wonder how moves earlier in the season like in mid-January effect a team's playoff run?

Don't we hear this every year? Stamkos? Tavares? Patrick Stephan? Alexander Daige? Not to say he won't he wont be great. Just that Vinny is an elite player. It's hard to give players like that up.

Exactly!

VINNY = Elite

Draft Picks / Prospects = Unproven

Hope he doesn't go to the HABs :death:
