Buffalo Wings Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 Ugh.....not the best time for a penalty. Not looking good for the Bulls. Fumble returned for a TD by UConn...37-20 pending extra point.
Saudi Arabia Rob Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 Boy, will this be a replay of the Islander game, we're up by two, take penalty, they pull goalie for final two minutes, then we got to OT? Too bad Hecht couldn't put away the goal earlier.

Saudi Arabia Rob Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 Wow, excellent road game by the team today. Wonder who made Ellis eat Wheaties this morning?
darksabre Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 whew! okay. Good hang on for the win there to take a very well played game against Boston. This team needs to keep showing up. They're very good when they actually try.
ROC Sabres Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 Wow, excellent road game by the team today. Wonder who made Ellis eat Wheaties this morning? I wonder if the team drank before the game cuz they were flexin their beer muscles throughout. I'm sure Roy had some left over from last night!
Guest Sloth Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 I was very pleased w/ the first two periods, but Buffalo played STUPID in the third. The Sabres were only up by two goals and they fell into this prevent style of play. How could they be content w/ a two goal lead?
Crestwood Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 While the third-period effort left something to be desired, what a huge win for Buffalo! Ellis and Pominville were everywhere today, and Gaustad and Mair took their games to another level. Nice to see Sekera was not only OK, but playing the last minute or two on the PK. Speaks volumes of what Lindy thinks of the kid. And a big  to this board for making it to six pages in the Game Discussion Thread before the game was over! Cheers!
SarasotaSabre Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 how do you give that goal up? come on miller did you not see the total screen in front of Miller on the replay? No chance.....you try to make that save
SDS Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 I was very pleased w/ the first two periods, but Buffalo played STUPID in the third. The Sabres were only up by two goals and they fell into this prevent style of play. How could they be content w/ a two goal lead? there is another side to that coin - there is a very talented Boston stepping up and putting on a full court press. So, they may not have been content, but they were pushing back on a big push from the Bruins.
DR HOLLIDAY Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 did you not see the total screen in front of Miller on the replay? No chance.....you try to make that save Your right man, he was totally screened, you can't stop what you can't see..............That is also the weakness of our defense for sure, clearing in front of the net, so our goalies can see everything.
Cereal Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 Just when my fingernails had grown back ... Haha. Well, a good two points even though that third period was kind of weak. Strong play by Miller for sure, except that Thornton goal. Pom-Goose-Ellis were HUGE!! Great to see it. Ottawa next.... They're 3-7 in their last ten; 1-3 in the first four of an 8-game roadie. In fact, they play @TOR and @NJD this weekend before @BUF Tuesday. We also leapfrog the Pens (Lost at home to Florida this afternoon) to the 7th spot in the East. w00t!
DR HOLLIDAY Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 3-on-1 and Hecht gets too cute. <_< I thought that was actually a pretty sweet play to tell you the truth....... Did you also see him haul ass back up the ice to play some D..........Nice hustle........
DR HOLLIDAY Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 Pomminstein cleans up in front.. That 2-goal lead is baaaccckk Buffalo: :worthy: :worthy: :worthy: :worthy: Boston: :censored: :censored: The Goose gets credit for this one...........
SarasotaSabre Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 Your right man, he was totally screened, you can't stop what you can't see..............That is also the weakness of our defense for sure, clearing in front of the net, so our goalies can see everything. agreed, totally
SarasotaSabre Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 anyone hear RJ with this classic call from today? "....and Tim Thomas goes down like he's just been shot !!! "
Stoner Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 I was very pleased w/ the first two periods, but Buffalo played STUPID in the third. The Sabres were only up by two goals and they fell into this prevent style of play. How could they be content w/ a two goal lead? Stupid Sabres. Bad Sabres. Classic.
carpandean Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 Great game! I'd prefer they not play to protect the lead in the third, but rather push to extend it, but as SDS said, that could a result of the Bruins going all out, too. I'll say it, if Ellis wants to play like that, I'm OK with him being our best player! (With a nod to Gaustad and Mair, too.) Mair needs to introduce Lucic to his fists. Actually, I'd prefer that Mair not get another concussion. Have you seen Lucic fight? He is way outside of Mair's weight class.
R_Dudley Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 One, by Tallinder. Nice job by the zebras to turn their heads to Sekera's injury. Gotta give props to our young defensemen, though ? Sekera and Butler have been phenomenal this afternoon. Defintely one of my Observations, Butler deserves to be here , I don't care when Rivet comes back, Butler needs to stay. whew! okay. Good hang on for the win there to take a very well played game against Boston. This team needs to keep showing up. They're very good when they actually try. Couldn't have said it better Huge road game win! Penguins lose today and we go from 9th to 7th in east seedings that quick, Canes in 8th because we played 2 less games tied in records. This east is going to be a brutal race down to the wire. That was a very good road win against one very good Bruins team. They need to use this and build some momentum and put together that little 5-6 win streak Vanek talked about in the paper this am, however not taking stupid penalties like that at the end. Come'on TV your smarter than that... Overall I liked their jam today. -Hecht was better today especially on the kills, -Ellis deserves more ice time, -Goose had a solid game and the goal should be his not Pom's, -Kotalik and stafford still coasting a little too much -Butler had a solid game, man when I look at his choir boy face I imagine the other team does not expect him to hit like he does.. -Sekera another solid game -Max hurt in the second didn't return but didn't miss him much Up next ottawa at home, now just remember how you played and hit Alfredo, spezza and heatly like you did these bruins and good things happen.....
... Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 whew! okay. Good hang on for the win there to take a very well played game against Boston. This team needs to keep showing up. They're very good when they actually try. Exactly. It's not the system, or the talent (or lack of talent), or the goal tending - it's the locker room. The Sabres problems reside in the locker room and, fundamentally, no where else. Oh, and Ellis has earned a permanent spot on the roster IMHO.
Guest Sloth Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 there is another side to that coin - there is a very talented Boston stepping up and putting on a full court press. So, they may not have been content, but they were pushing back on a big push from the Bruins. Getting out shot 11-2 in the third is not smart. If the Sabres had the puck in the Bruins end, Boston would most like have had fewer chances to score. Buffalo would have also had a few chances of their own to put the puck in the net. I'll never support the style of play Buffalo used in the third when they're only up by 2 goals. If Boston put a goal in w/ a number of minutes to play, it would have been a whole new game and people would be mad w/ what the Sabres chose to do.
LabattBlue Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 Game thoughts... - Matt Ellis has a hat trick in the 2nd period if not for a great save by Thomas. He is very awkward to watch with the way he swings his arms when skating, but I have to give him credit, he works hard. - The performance by Miller is what is expected of your big contract goalie. - Tallinder still sucks at getting the puck out of his own end when along the boards. On a sidenote, I knew Chara was going to send him flying in the 3rd period. - Great win against a red hot team that before today lost only one game in regulation at home. - I think it is time to see what Butler has on the PK. He has handled the minutes Lindy has given him with poise and there is nothing wrong with throwing a little more his way. -If the Sabres played that way at home, there record wouldn't be around .500. - Nice 2-0 start to the January gauntlet!
