Corp000085 Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 1:00pm Now, if the Sabres wanted to truly make a statement, they'd beat the Bruins today. It's one thing to have one great game, but its the mark of a good team to carry on with the effort into the next game. Beating the Bruins today would be huge. They're the best team in the league, it would put the Sabres into the 8th spot in the conference, and to restate my point: it would be two huge games in a row. DO IT!!!! Also, please note the start time. This is an afternoon game that quite frankly, conflicts with the International Bowl. Sabres on MSG, the Bulls on ESPN2 at the same time. Oh the conflicts! LETS GO BUFFALO!
Foligno's Nose Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 Yeah, it is a great opportunity to show they can compete with the upper third of the league. It's amazing to see the turnaround made by the chowderheads. Lucic?, Wheeler? Where did these guys come from? Everytime I turn on NHL on the Fly - Wheeler has his way before scoring another goal. They put together a good team and are getting good goaltending. What a first half plus their latest 10-game stretch. Let's go Buffalo - knock these guys off their pedestal - at least for this afternoon - for starters. Throw on the retro/ third jerseys for the rest of the season and lose the slug -and kick ass. (really liked the Winter Classic -home whites too) Anybody know what our record is in the third (should be real) jerseys? Enjoy the game everyone, and a great sports day all together - Sabres, NHL, NFL playoffs, UB - Wow.
wjag Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 Two things in Buffalo's favor today.. a road game and Boston is overdue to lose... Tough game anyway you slice it..
SwampD Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 Enjoy the game everyone, and a great sports day all together - Sabres, NHL, NFL playoffs, UB - Wow. Don't forget about the IIHF World Junior Championship on NHLN. I'm really going to work in my a$$ groove on the couch today. I agree that Boston is due for a loss. Let's hope it's the Sabres that give it to them.
Knightrider Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 I'll be there with the family! Go Sabres!
bob_sauve28 Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 We are back in 9th place. Need a win to keep pace. Let's go Sabres!
Kristian Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 I'll even settle for a loss, as long as they just put their noses to the grindstone and go all-in for 60 minutes. At this point, it's not really about the points. Don't get me wrong, points are good and we need them, but IMHO if this team can start working their butts off as much as just two nights out of three, the points will roll in at least somewhat accordingly, and that should be enough to at least secure an 8th berth. What I'm asking for is urgency. Come on guys, hard work surely is what got you all here in the first place? There is no shame in losing to Boston, if you at least go down swinging. Any points tonight will be an added bonus.

Won against Boston and Penguins, lost against Toronto (@ HSBC), then won against LA and Toronto (@ Air Canada Centre.) You might like this site. ------- Nothing to lose today. Don't have to impress the home crowd and playing the best team in the league with the second best home record (14-1-1). They should lose today, but that doesn't mean that they have to. They've beaten Boston twice this season; that's 22% of all of Boston's losses on the season. Play hard, play smart and they just might pull it out. Like Kristian, I'm looking more at the effort than the outcome - quite frankly, I expect them to lose - but would be ecstatic if they could shock the home team.
Stoner Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 If I were Lindy, I'd play the "no respect" card. Give the Bruins none. Who the hell are they? A mediocre team the last few years that's just on a roll now. They're not the 76 Canadiens. Plenty of teams start hot and tail off this time of year. Yada yada yada. Seriously, in this day and age, no team is that good. As for any intimidation factor in playing in that building... please. Zzzzzz.
Cereal Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 Does anyone know how to determine if Center Ice will be showing MSG or NESN? I assume it'll be NESN (ughghghhh) but I still don't know how to determine these things. Thanks!

They need that effort, period. They also need the win, but I just can't bring myself to expecting either. Sad, really.

I think they have the room to give me both feeds on an afternoon game, but what do I know? IN DEMAND sends me the cable center ice schedule out here via e-mail. The only other way I deciher is to tune to the first center ice channel prior to the start of games and they give the full channel schedule with (H) and (A) designations for which broadcast it is when showing both. When they only pick one, the only way I know is via e-mail.

As for any intimidation factor in playing in that building... please. Zzzzzz. Yeah we wish, sorry I've watched allot of them this year and the biggest reason they are were they are is because they play Juliens system to a tee, Good goaltending strong play from 4 lines, get the puck on net and go hard to the net(use the drive the middle play and score off it allot). The skilled players contribute at clutch times, A hard combination to beat when they play it every game they play and as a team that all brings their lunch buckets. That said every dog has it's day and maybe we catch a break where the goalie is off or players have a bad game but I still expect it will not be easy. And besides our boys do not deserve easy, they need a hard work / reward effort so they know what it takes against the best teams in the league and just maybe they can learn and come together as a team this month with the road travelled/schedule that they are looking at..... Lets go Sabres,..
carpandean Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 Total side note here, not worth its own thread: I was just watching the Sabres Show and they had Patrick Kane on. He showed a sombrero and a pic of him skating with it on during a game. Turns out that on the London Knights, the first player to score a hat trick in a game got to put on the sombrero and skate a loop with it. No surprise, he had a stack of them. I thought that was pretty cool. Maybe the Sabres need to mount the pigeon on a hat for that purpose.

wjag Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 Sabres better have an answer for Lucic today.. Last time he was a one-man wrecking crew...

Buffalo Wings Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 Yikes..Mller makes two great saves... Both of which are the type that can be inspiring to his team and deflating to the opponent....
