carpandean Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 God those frigging jerseys look awesome. Whomever came up with that abominable Rbk sluggalo design and whomever signed off on it should be shot. Seconded.
Crestwood Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 God those frigging jerseys look awesome. Whomever came up with that abominable Rbk sluggalo design and whomever signed off on it should be shot. Thirded, and I love wearing my new one. Great effort tonight. No one stuck out as having a weak performance, though I wonder sometimes about Lindy's allegiance to Teppo. I'm still a little miffed as to why the Sabres' last would-be goal was disallowed, but it's a moot point now. Now for a much bigger test: Keeping this desperate attitude and gritty effort going in an away game against arguably the league's best team which is positively deadly at home.

carpandean Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 Hell hath frozen over. Not only did they actually show our game highlights on SportsCenter, but 6 of the top 10 plays of the day were from hockey (only three were from the WC.) If one had been a Sabres play, then I really would be checking Satan's thermostat.

Mine's a simple team one at this point; I've considered getting it Gaustadized, but that remains to be seen.

Gaustad was a very close second choice. My next jersey -- you know, the white version of these that they will be getting either next season or the one after  -- will likely be Gaustadized.
wjag Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 There was a lot to like in tonight's game: 1. Miller stones Hagman on the penalty shot. 2. 2 PPG 3. Great PK especially with back-to-back minors in the third 4. Roy gets two garbage goals 5. Pomminstein gets two goals as well 6. Miller looked solid in net all night 7. And two points to start the new year. Real test is Sat. at Boston where they simply don't lose this year.
Cereal Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 I don't understand why so many people have given up on this team. I've got to admit, the loss at home against Washington got me pretty down (especially after the bad news surrounding our Bills). But I just looked at the standings... and we're tied for the 8th spot with the Canes, if you believe that. That seems so much better than we think considering how much we have blow giant as lately..... Don't forget Saturday is an afternoon game! Let's Go Buff-a-lo!!!!!!!!

That said, I didn't think the Sabres gave any more effort than when they lost to the Caps. The difference between the two games is that Toronto has zero offensive threats and sub-AHL goaltending. They weren't noticeably more physical and they didn't dominate the boards. It just may seem that way because the drop in the level of compettition. If they go in the game against Boston playing as they did last night they could get run out of the building.
bottlecap Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 QUOTE(carpandean @ Jan 1 2009, 10:29 PM) Yeah and Goose threw his body around before we were down by three goals, so nobody can complain about that Ellis and Mair, too! Oh boy. Get out those pom-poms! <_<
LabattBlue Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 I expected Toronto to be ready for the Sabres to come after them after Lindy's tirade. Instead, they layed down and had no answer for what the Sabres threw at them. Nice win to start the gauntlet. PS Harry Neale is really starting to get on my nerves. At one point he said "the Sabres have 3 games at home this month and 8 on the road". How can you screw up basic facts? 3 at home, 10 on the road. Fuzzy math? I think not. You suck Neale!
carpandean Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 The next five games could make or break this team. Do well and it would be a huge boost in confidence. Fail to show up and they could find themselves on the outside looking in from a ways away. We have: Bruins - top team in the East, if not the NHL. They don't lose at home. Senators - they always seem to own us and are looking to turn it around, which we usually help out with. Rangers - struggling a bit, but still one of the better teams in the East. Detroit - did you watch the WC? They are a machine. Chicago - up-and-coming team that, despite two losses to Detroit, has been playing very well as of late. Given the way they've played this year, the Senators game may be their hardest. At home against a team below them that is looking for a spark? Yikes! If they start their backup goalie (wait, do they even have a starting goalie?) and play some guys that haven't scored an NHL goal yet, we will get destroyed.
Stoner Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 God those frigging jerseys look awesome. Whomever came up with that abominable Rbk sluggalo design and whomever signed off on it should be shot. Fixed. I was also disappointed in the margins.

What did the Sabres "through at them"? Cujo let in four of the softest goals you will see all season? I'm glad they got the two points. I just didn't see any marked improvement in their play.

You have to start somewhere, right? ;)

They have a chance to show what they can do against the top team in the East. Beat Boston and I will be willing to listen about this team starting a playoff run.

carpandean Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 God, I was thinking the same thing. When Mair and Ellis are our two of our best forwards, we've got some 'splainin to do. Again, that was a joke from the Caps game. Goose, Mair and Ellis probably were our best forwards in Washington and everyone said so. NOBODY said that was a good thing. Quite the opposite. EVERYONE, including Lindy, said that it was a very, very bad thing. Those three play with consistent energy, including last night, and I do applaud that -- it's part of their roles -- but I wouldn't say that they were our best players last night. The right players were.
LabattBlue Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 Did they "start" anything or is it just a reflection of a lessor competition. I disagree. During the 6-0-2 start, they beat Montreal, Boston, New York®, Vancouver, Minnesota & New York(I). Except for the Islanders, the opposition was pretty good.
carpandean Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 They have a chance to show what they can do against the top team in the East. Beat Boston and I will be willing to listen about this team starting a playoff run. They are 2-2-0 against the Bruins this season (though, the Bruins are 2-1-1 against them, :censored: stupid points system); that's 20% of the Bruins' regulation losses and 25% of their OT losses. In fact, the Sabres' record against teams above them is much better than against teams below them. Of course, the Sabres are 0-2-0 in Boston, where the Bruins have been nigh unbeatable (14-1-1; second only to San Jose at 18-0-2.) If they win, that will be a HUGE statement.

carpandean Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 Well technically he's right. ;) Lol, yeah, they do have those ... plus another 2 road games.
