Corp000085 Posted January 1, 2009 Report Posted January 1, 2009 7:00pm Let's see what the new year brings the Sabres. More of the same, or will they play hard and tough from the top of the roster to the bottom? I hate to say it, but if Mike Shannahan's fate with the Broncos wasn't felt by Lindy Ruff, then he has a major problem. Hopefully they can win a few games in a row, starting tonight. I'm not a broncos fan, but if a two time super bowl winning coach that has been with a team for 15 years can get canned, then so can a 1 time stanley cup losing coach who's been with his team for 11 years. No better way to put 2008 behind the Sabres and start 2009 with a bang than by beating the Leafs on their home ice tonight. LETS GO BUFFALO!
wjag Posted January 1, 2009 Report Posted January 1, 2009 I guess the good news is that it is a road game... They play better on the road..
wjag Posted January 1, 2009 Report Posted January 1, 2009 T. Vanek 37 25 7 -5 32 D. Roy 37 11 20 -1 31 J. Pominville 37 10 17 -4 27 C. Macarthur 36 11 9 -7 20 D. Stafford 34 8 11 3 19 A. Kotalik 30 8 11 -3 19 J. Spacek 37 1 18 -5 19 J. Hecht 27 4 9 -7 13 D. Paille 35 4 8 -5 12 M. Afinogenov 32 2 10 -14 12 I haven't looked at stats in a long time... Our top ten point producers are all negative with Mad Max leading the way at -14... I knew it was bad, but I had no idea it was this bad... Upcoming sched: @Tor, @Bos, Sens, NYR, @Det... I see a rough start for the New Year and a loooooonnnnng January again....
carpandean Posted January 1, 2009 Report Posted January 1, 2009 D. Stafford 34 8 11 3 19 I haven't looked at stats in a long time... Our top ten point producers are all negative with Mad Max leading the way at -14... Not Drew. He's tied with Mair for the team lead (among those that have played 20 games or more) at a +3. Actually, of note is the Roy-Stafford combo has done quite well since being put together. Roy was once a -7 and is back to just a -1. Stafford was once a -5 and is now a plus 3. Gerbe's a plus 3. In fact, during the five games that the Gerbe-Roy-Stafford played (Dec. 6 - 12), Stafford was a +4, while Gerbe and Roy were a +3.
BeeWhy5 Posted January 1, 2009 Report Posted January 1, 2009 Its a new year boys. Buffalo needs to come out hitting tonight and set the tone early. End of the Islanders game, and well...the entire last game, they were sleep walking so they should be well rested! Would like to see good performances as Lindy said from the big boys, Vanek and Poms specifically. Overall I think Roy has been solid lately and I think that with the help of the other "stars" on this team, he can lead this team on the offensive end. One other thing that we HAVE to see. Forwards backchecking! Our defense has been decent, but they need to backcheck to support them. With all that said...GO SABRES!!
RR61 Posted January 1, 2009 Report Posted January 1, 2009 Do you believe in Miracles? YES! Sabres win 5-3 tonight. (OK, I'm still drunk.)

I can hear the post-game excuses already. Prove me wrong Sabres - I dare ya.
R_Dudley Posted January 1, 2009 Report Posted January 1, 2009 I just can't get a read on these losers. But hey they are likeable and really enjoy each other's company and thats important right ? ya know to spend allot of quality time together.... Oh wait a minute this is a hockey team ? .. our job, ya mean we are trying to accomplish somethings besides being good freinds and making lots of money,,, interesting concept.... hhmm, lets talk about what that means.. You want action ? talking is an action right ? Oh you want action on the ice, don't know if we can do that, we haven't done it enough to have it all figured out but we'll keep talking about it.... Stay tuned... Okay note to self you just cannot turn on and off passion and desire at the passion Faucet. Having Center Ice package I have seen Toronto playing with plenty of passion and jam, the Sabres not much if any of either,... factor in the hockey gods that smile on hard work and passion and laugh at likable losers and I'm predicting 4-3 Tornoto win were we outplay the other team but get a smackdown from the hockey gods because I've seen it work that way to many times and this team used up all their turn it off and on luck in previous seasons and it takes more than one well played game to change your karma and prove your going to work hard to the hockey gods.. Comeon Darcy how many more losses before you back the coach and make a move.
Two or less Posted January 1, 2009 Report Posted January 1, 2009 Do you believe in Miracles? YES! Sabres win 5-3 tonight. (OK, I'm still drunk.) I'm still drunk too brother! But, i do think we will win tonight. 6-1 Sabres. They come strong and get like 3 first period goals. I can feel it. My ride is about to pick me up any minute tho to go to this game. I'm pumped!

I get the feeling this is going to be one of those games where everything goes right. 5-0 to start the year.
millbank Posted January 1, 2009 Report Posted January 1, 2009 yes, I agree, likely this game will be one of those where everything goes right............ I'm with you. I get the feeling this is going to be one of those games where everything goes right. 5-0 to start the year.
darksabre Posted January 1, 2009 Report Posted January 1, 2009 my hangover just wore off, I'm not sure I want to watch this and get it back again. Maybe I'll just listen to it tonight.

Crestwood Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 my hangover just wore off, I'm not sure I want to watch this and get it back again. Maybe I'll just listen to it tonight. I feel your pain, brother. It's sad that my standards are so low, I'll be content if Buffalo shows up for all three periods. A win is the ultimate goal, no doubt, but I need this team to prove it can still skate for 60 minutes. Good lord, this could be a long January.
UncleWally Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 I got Sylvester coming out of my left speaker and the stadium broadcaster out of my right.
DonInBuffalo Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 Hecht must really be in the doghouse - a grand total of 2 minutes of ice time in the first period.
Stoner Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 Hecht must really be in the doghouse - a grand total of 2 minutes of ice time in the first period. Thomas Vanek 4:50. The second leading goal scorer in the league. Ruff's handling of Vanek is criminal.
G-Daddy Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 Sabres up 2 to 0 right now.....so far, a happy new year. Let's keep it up boys!
Stoner Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 Lindy's doing a helluva job. Helluva job.
Guest Sloth Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 Man, this board has become dead and quiet...in general. I remember when this board was packed every single game and we'd be on the 3rd page by now.
Guest Sloth Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 Vanek has incredible skills. Backhand pass was sweet! I'm sure he thought Roy was closer to the far post, though. Roy was a bit lucky to get the puck in.
Crestwood Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 Uhhhhhh ... no goal there? If we were only up by one right now, I'd be livid. (Oh yeah, we're playing in Toronto.) <_<
Bmwolf21 Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 Man, this board has become dead and quiet...in general. I remember when this board was packed every single game and we'd be on the 3rd page by now. Remember a couple years ago we'd be losing but most never lost faith, no matter how late in the game it was getting, because we knew that the guys could explode for 2-3 goals quickly? Yeah, I feel the same way now, but in reverse. Now I don't breathe easy until the final horn sounds...
