and that doesn't include the Complaint Thursday threads ... need I go on?

The teams has some holes and some injuries, leading them to be mediocre. The whole team is not worthless, but some moves could make it a lot better.

Deal anyone with a salary with the exception of Vanek and let's start over...

As good as Roy's playing, you can't deal him, either. He's been dominant with the puck on his stick lately. I've never seen him play better. He's earning his keep.

He is starting to tally some points for sure, but he reminds me of Max Jr. most days. I cringe every time he tries to carry the puck into the offensive zone. The guy looks like he is always playing pick-up out there.

okay..I am tired of mediocrity...just keep on saying way to go even though we are are a .500 team... :death:

We're one of the most successful teams in the last 11 years. League runner up. Three Eastern Conference finalists. One President's trophy. We just havn't won the cup. I'd do anything for the Cup but you are just posting like an idiot. Trade them all away? And then what? Lose 2 in a row and trade that whole team away too? Come on. This isn't a freaking playstation video game. The problem isn't the team, it's you. The problem is, you don't give a rats a$$ about this team, you just want them to win so you can have some kind of self glorification like you are some person of importance or something. Give me a break.

I'm pretty sure the problem is the team. Last I checked, I'm not the one out there blowing leads.

Your perception of how good this team was is also skewed. 98-99 was a team much like Carolina, who played hard and got lucky, backstopped by the great Dominator. There's no way we make the playoffs that year without Dom.

05-06 we also got lucky. This team happened to be built for the "new nhl" and found its way to the ECFs on the backs of some real great players who clicked in that system.

06-07 was crap. Just because we won the President's Trophy people think that means we were a good team. No, we weren't. We got lucky A LOT during the first half of the season. Second half we crapped out. Playoff team? Yes. Contender for the Cup? Hell no.

When you look at teams like Detroit who have won 4 Stanley Cups in the last 11 years, it kind of leaves one wanting more from this team.

So I can see where someone would argue to clean house. I give just as much of a crap about this team as anyone and I would see no problem letting 60% of the roster go in the off season. This team needs a new face. With all the UFAs and RFAs coming up this off season, I would like to think we'll see a different Sabres team next year without the same tired problems we've been watching since 2007.

This team is NOT one of the most successful in the last 11 years. You just think it is.

relax, take it easy and by the way you said you'd do anything for the cup! No you wouldn't ,think about it before you go on your next diatribe.

This is some of the most idiotic stuff that i've ever seen im my life on this forum. We win the President's trophy and we were not a good team? Because they didn't win the cup? News flash: Every team gets lucky sometimes. Every team loses games. This team was a serious contender for the Stanley Cup 4 times in the past 11 years. NOT many can say that. Who cares what style they played in the late 1990s. It worked. They were a hard working team. And had the best goalie on the planet. Why would they change styles? Are they stupid? Management builds a team to win the title, and with Hasek, they needed to build a defensive team. We got pretty close, but it didn't work out.

There's a fine line between being a fan of the team and just being a fan for winning. I don't care if i get flamed. For what? Supporting my team. Because some dick wants to give it all up because we are in 8th place and trade all? Good joke. Only a handful of teams do what Detroit does.

Some of you really live in a fantasy world. That's the best part of this whole thread. We don't have monopoly money and we can't get Marion Gaborik for Max Afinogenov. To get someone good, you gotta give up someone good.

Correct. Do we have to get into the "President's Trophy doesn't matter" argument again. 7 in the last 22 winners since the trophy was created won the Cup. 9 made it to the Cup. The odds are against it. Flip a coin. It predicts about the same.

And yes, we've made some really deep runs in the playoffs, but don't label them Stanley Cup contenders unless they get to the finals. Until that point, they're just playing to become Contenders. If we look at contenders going back through to 1990, there tends to be some of the same names coming up.

Since 1990-91:

The Penguins have been to the Finals 3 times and won twice.

The Devils have been to the Finals 4 times and won three times.

The Wings have been 5 times and won four.

We made it once. Along with the Canadians, Kings, Panthers, Flyers, Oilers, Senators, Flames, Capitals, Canucks, Lightning, and Hurricanes.

How many of those teams in our company would you consider "Contenders" on a regular basis?

Yes, the Sabres have had some good teams in the past few years. But that isn't the point.

The point is that cleaning house on this team in the offseason isn't going to hurt it. Keeping our core of Miller, Pommers, Roy, and Vanek is important. Letting players go and bringing in new faces needs to happen every now and then. Next season will be a better team because of addition by subtraction. Dumping some of the trash we do have will be a good thing.

I'm not defending "trading everyone with a salary except Vanek" because that is just exaggerated and unlikely. I am however, defending sabresnutinphoenix's right to be unhappy with everyone on this team but Vanek. He has been close to the only bright point on this season so far along with some of the rookies we've seen called up.

I'm sorry, but you need a serious lesson in statistics.

7/22 is PHENOMENAL. I wouldn't doubt if someone could prove it is the greatest single predictor to winning the cup. In your incorrect scenario of "flipping a coin" - that coin would need to be 16 sided for your argument to make sense. If the PT didn't matter, then the average # of wins would be 1 in 16, not 7 in 22.

The real number of 7 in 22 is 5 times more successful than random. That is a tremendous correlation and totally opposite of your assertion.

I know I'm just being an a-hole. Inky doesn't come around enough anymore. :(

Ummmmm someone needs to brush up on their Sabres history.... Sabres have made it twice... hate to be a dick but kidna not a minor point given the subject.
