bob_sauve28 Posted December 27, 2008 Report Posted December 27, 2008 We are 15th in league scoring and 16th in goals given up. Not the worst in either but far from the best. Just sort of stuck in the middle. To me the biggest disappointment has been the lack of scoring. Connelly is out most of the time, Max has two goals, Hecht has been in a slump, as has Pomminstein, Roy had his slump, Stafford is just now producing and Paille just isn't getting it done. I expected to get a little more at least out of those players. You have to score gaols to win, as they say
Stoner Posted December 27, 2008 Report Posted December 27, 2008 Sabres were 4th in goals scored last year. The emphasis this year was going to be keeping the puck out of the net, but it hasn't happened. Sabres are right on last year's pace for goals against. Sabres might as well still be playing the style that suits their talent. It comes back to coaching, IMHO.

You cant win games by relying on Vanek every night. There has to be some secondary scoring. this team doesnt have it.

Patty16 Posted December 27, 2008 Report Posted December 27, 2008 This team doesnt have the talent..Coaching is not the problem... no they certainly dont.. our "young guns" are much more young than gun. we dont need more grinding two way forwards, or physicality, our team loses bc we lose the convert scoring chances battle consisntent;y
inkman Posted December 27, 2008 Report Posted December 27, 2008 FInally, someone says it, this team isnt scoring this year. I'm fairly certain it's been discussed prior to this thread.
Stoner Posted December 27, 2008 Report Posted December 27, 2008 This team doesnt have the talent..Coaching is not the problem... They were fourth in goals last year with essentially the same team. What changed? Lindy. He turned his mouth down and told everyone you can't score anymore in the NHL. He wanted a skilled, finesse team to drive the net and score ugly goals. Stats show scoring is up this year. You do the math.

You do the math. They had many games last year against sub talent teams where they put up more than 5 goals per game..IMO that skewers the goal stat..There were many games they scored 2 or less goals and lost.....I believe you can throw that stat out the window..
bob_sauve28 Posted January 2, 2009 Author Report Posted January 2, 2009 We have scored 109 goals and given up 109 goals and are in 8th place The Rangers have scored 107 goals and given up 107 goals and are in third place
deluca67 Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 The Bruins are at the top of goals for and goals against. It's amazing how they spring boarded past the rest of the Eastern Conference. I wonder if the same fate will befall the Bruins as it did the Senators and the Sabres who over the past two seasons have started off as hot as can be only to falter when it counted most.

I was wondering the same thing. Will be interesting to see. And I just can't believe the Penguins will sit at the 7th spot forever. I remember the Mario Penguins always doing that at beginning of season and then roaring off to a great finish
