Hawk Posted December 25, 2008 Report Posted December 25, 2008 I know all are expendable on this team except for a couple guys. But to get something you have to give something. Naturally, the MA, and AK come to mind, but lets just say they are the 2 that we would not trade. Would you give up a Stafford or Roy? How about One of those with Spacek and a prospect, from the minors or one of the two Tylers from the latest draft?

How about One of those with Spacek and a prospect, from the minors or one of the two Tylers from the latest draft? Everyone's expendable. It would take a helluva deal for me to give up Vanek. I assume you think Miller is another untouchable. No way. I'd trade him now while his value is still high. I think it's already dropping and will continue to drop after this season. That would be contingent on an evaluation that the team has no chance to do anything in the playoffs, that the team is in a rebuilding mode and that Enroth is ready. I think we're getting close to that point.
carpandean Posted December 25, 2008 Report Posted December 25, 2008 It would take a lot for me to trade Roy, especially with his inexpensive contract.
sabreskings3623 Posted December 25, 2008 Report Posted December 25, 2008 Only player that I would never, ever trade would be Vanek. If others can be packaged for a return of good or better player(s), than I'd be fine with it.
deluca67 Posted December 25, 2008 Report Posted December 25, 2008 I was thinking about this same topic as I was wrapping a Christmas gift for my favorite person in the world, the inventor of internet porn. I feel that Vanek, Roy and Pominville are all untouchables. They are a core that a championship team can be built around.
LabattBlue Posted December 26, 2008 Report Posted December 26, 2008 I'd be more than willing to part with Tallinder and/or Spacek as soon as the holiday trade freeze is lifted. I doubt Spacek will be re-signed(he is a UFA after this season) and it is clear Tallinder is never going to regaing his level of play from 05-06. I think you will get a nice return for both these guys in separate deals. I'd also trade anyone on the NHL roster(except for Roy, Vanek & Pominville), in the system(AHL, juniors or college) or draft picks in the offseason in order to fix the #2 center position.
inkman Posted December 26, 2008 Report Posted December 26, 2008 It would take a lot for me to trade Roy, especially with his inexpensive contract. I feel that Vanek, Roy and Pominville are all untouchables. Dustin Brown anyone? I would trade any player on the roster for him. I'd have to think long and hard about Vanek but DB is everything I want a hockey player to be and a team captain to be.
carpandean Posted December 26, 2008 Report Posted December 26, 2008 Dustin Brown anyone? I would trade any player on the roster for him. I'd have to think long and hard about Vanek but DB is everything I want a hockey player to be and a team captain to be. Would I trade Vanek for Dustin Brown? Tough call; probably not. Would I trade Roy for Dustin Brown? Probably, but with a small sense of regret. Would I trade anybody the system, packaged together for Dustin Brown? In a heartbeat. Would we be significantly better off with the third option than either of the first two (or possibly for Pommer)? Definitely! The problem with trading Roy for Brown is that, while it would be an upgrade at the #1 center position, it would still leave a big hole at the #2 center position. Given how cheap his contract is for what he brings, it would be hard to imagine that we could trade him for Brown and bring in another #2 center of anywhere near Roy's caliber without spending a lot more. If we could find any other way to bring Brown in and have the Brown/Roy #1/#2 combo, we would instantly be a much stronger team. Edit: not sure why I was thinking that he played center for LA. Trading Roy for him would leave two holes at center. You are correct that he is the type of player that I would love to see added, but so every team in the league. I'll take a Lucic while you are at it. In short, Roy is one of the few players that we have who is actually providing more than they are paid. Vanek, too (this year, most of the time.) Pommer is also, but that's only because he's still under his old contract; with the new one, his current production won't cut it. Other than that, you have to look at overly cheap guys like Mair - $750k for a role player who can cover some higher line positions, is strong on faceoffs and brings energy by fighting (and winning!) - or MacArthur/Stafford - young cheap (for now) RFAs who are producing - to find anyone producing more than they are paid. Even those three guys are questionable at times and the last two may get big raises at the end of the year either here or from another team. Vanek and Roy are the only two who you would lose some significant net value (worth - cost) in trading. Of course, that almost means that they have the most trade value, but Mac and Staff also have "potential" value. I'd rather trade one or both of them with picks/prospects and add to the value on the team.
Foligno's Nose Posted December 27, 2008 Report Posted December 27, 2008 Dustin Brown? I'm a big fan. If you get the chance to see him play - do so. An instant captain. (no offense to Rivet) He had a decent game against Buffalo last Friday. (atleast 5-6 SOG) A lot of chances. The Sabres did a great job of keeping his physical game in check. He is a monster in that category. Yeah, of course. I'd give them anything they wanted short of Vanek. Completely unrealistic though. I also think other teams are still gunshy about dealing with Darcy.
