Stoner Posted December 20, 2008 Report Posted December 20, 2008 http://www.nhlnumbers.com/ Interesting that the Sabres are slightly above the league average in age. Also interesting that of the 11 teams above the league average in cap space available -- about $3.8 million -- none is significantly above .500 and several are bottom feeders. Of the 10 teams with less than a million dollars of cap space available, onlly St. Louis isn't significantly above .500. Most of these teams are near the top of the league standings.
Bmwolf21 Posted December 20, 2008 Report Posted December 20, 2008 http://www.nhlnumbers.com/ NHLNumbers is a fantastic site and has been mentioned here quite a few times, although mostly in the offseason. I really like the features that allow the user to compare players and teams, and even sort by FA status and current salary and/or cap hit.
carpandean Posted December 20, 2008 Report Posted December 20, 2008 http://www.nhlnumbers.com/ I've used nhlnumbers for a long time. I even have a link in my Firefox Bookmarks toolbar. I go back and forth between that site and Sportsnet's player database (gives players' strengths, weaknesses and career potentials) when considering playing GM. Neither site is perfect, but they are a great starting point. PA: true, this season it seems that spending = performance. Last season, the bad and good were spread pretty evenly throughout the spectrum of cap space. Several high-spending teams missed the playoffs and several low spending teams made them (and went deep into the rounds.) Perhaps, the cap reached a high enough point that difference between the "haves" and "have nots" is finally larger than the difference between those that spend efficiently and those that spend frivolously. Certainly, the gap in cap hits has spread out as the cap has sky-rocketed. Of course, a lot of those high-spending teams could have problems in 2010-11 when the cap will likely fall.
Two or less Posted December 20, 2008 Report Posted December 20, 2008 NHLNumbers.com and Sabrespace.com are two of my favorite web sites on the entire internet. I love messing around on NHLnumbers and just losing track of time.
carpandean Posted December 20, 2008 Report Posted December 20, 2008 NHLNumbers.com and Sabrespace.com are two of my favorite web sites on the entire internet. I love messing around on NHLnumbers and just losing track of time. I'm telling you, adding in the Sportsnet players database makes it that much cooler (unless you have a really good feel for all the players in the NHL.) I've wasted far too much time on those two getting us a second-line center. :death:
