matter2003 Posted December 20, 2008 Report Posted December 20, 2008 I am still kinda shocked by the Bruins...I just don't see THAT many really good players on their roster for them to be leading the EC having played 4 less games than the second place Rangers...how the feeyuck are the doing it??

Same exact way the Sabres did two years ago when they won the President's Trophy. Show up and play every night and ride hot goal tending.

I don't know, but I have one of their centers on my sabrespace fantasy hockey team and he just scored me a trick! I can't pronounce his name, but thanks.
darksabre Posted December 20, 2008 Report Posted December 20, 2008 I've been watching the Bruins over the last few years and I'm not surprised at how this team has come to where they are now. They quietly got better and this year they've exploded.
RR61 Posted December 21, 2008 Report Posted December 21, 2008 I don't know, but I have one of their centers on my sabrespace fantasy hockey team and he just scored me a trick! I can't pronounce his name, but thanks. David Krejci is a talented young Czech player with skills who is starting to play up to his potential. The same could be said for Phil Kessel who everyone thought would get picked first in the draft before questions came up about his immaturity. (Not surprising since he was 18 years old at the time.) Blake Wheeler is a big dude who took longer to develop, and he was a free agent steal by Peter Chiarelli. (Phoenix drafted him in the first round in 2004, but failed to sign him.) Lucic doesn't just drop the gloves or hit people; he can score too. Boston finally dumped some high priced, non-producing veterans (Peter Schaefer) and are mixing in the youth with veterans like Marc Savard, Chuck Kobasew, and Patrice Bergeron (who got hurt yesterday). Their goaltending has been solid with Fernandez and Thomas; when one gets cold, the other picks up the slack. They have a commitment to playing solid team defense that starts with assistant coach Craig Ramsay -- you remember him, right Sabres fans? Selke Trophy winner? And lastly, there is a good team chemistry this year. They have each other's backs. You hit one, you better be ready to take on guys like Thornton, Lucic, Hnidy, or Chara. Shoot, even Marc Savard dropped the gloves when Sean Avery tried to take out Lucic at the knees in a game against Dallas this season. Sadly, I know all this because I live near Boston and have to hear it all from Bruins fans who started jumping back on the bandwagon this year. They finally have a good team to watch after years of sucking Charles River water.
bob_sauve28 Posted December 21, 2008 Report Posted December 21, 2008 Bruins have a lot of offensive talent. How about the Penguins? Losing to Toronto! Now they are only two points back. Have to believe the immaturity factor is playing a role on that team. Bunch of crybabies with talent

As a division rival, I hate the Bruins, but they've built a very strong team. I'm impressed with Kessel and Krejci. Kessel is turning into a pain to play against, and so is Lucic.

Really tough injury to come back from given his experience last year. As for Boston as a team, the highlights I have seen usually has to do with Milan Lucic being a one man wrecking ball. Not only does he play the game with a tenacity that is usually only reserved for playoff hockey, but he also contributes offensively (9G 13A +14)
RR61 Posted December 22, 2008 Report Posted December 22, 2008 Wheeler scored a sick goal against St. Louis last night. snwke86hEG0
carpandean Posted December 22, 2008 Report Posted December 22, 2008 Wheeler scored a sick goal against St. Louis last night. :w00t: Blues defense on that one:
Eleven Posted December 24, 2008 Report Posted December 24, 2008 Well, they were on vs tonight, and from what I saw, they were doing it with defense. Against New Jersey, no less, so I would have expected a score with negative numbers. But Boston managed a regular goal and an empty-netter.
