tom webster Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 All this talk about the new, old NHL seems to have obscured the fact that scoring is at near 05/06 pace. During the 05/06 season teams averaged roughly 3.08 goals. Thus far this year, teams are averaging 2.92 goals.
deluca67 Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 The scoring surge being led by the Bruins makes it even more interesting.
SwampD Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 Maybe they made the net bigger and didn't tell anyone.

bob_sauve28 Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 Oh, and on another note, I was watching NHL on the fly last night and from one of the broadcasts that mentioned that on this date--actually yesterday--in 1983, Wayne Gretzky had 4 points in a game that put him over 100 points for the season. On December 18th  Wow, things have changed

I haven't really paid much attention to most scores and results this year, but have there been a higher amount of OTL's than normal?

I still say he has to unleash these guys.

Since I'm snowed in after driving a friend's daughter to work; OTL 05/06 281 06/07 281 07/08 272 08/09 118 so far Before I checked, I thought you were right.

So there is a higher rate of OTLs so far this year so far. Was the free goal for a shootout win actually included in the stats you gave earlier? I always hate when they include those. Yeah, stupid weather has me starting my vacation a day late now, so I'm bored too.

Yeah, stupid weather has me starting my vacation a day late now, so I'm bored too. I'm not sure that the rate is actually up. If you consider that the season is already 40% gone I think the numbers are actually quite close. I didn't deduct the free goal because I thought the impact on the percentage over the course of the year would be minimal.

(118/31)*82=312 It's not exact, but it's a fair estimate. That would be a pretty big jump in the numbers, especially after looking at the 3 years worth you listed. I don't have anything to back this one up with, but I wouldn't be surprised if there is a spike in OT games towards the end of the year when teams are trying to scrap out every point possible. That could bump that rate up a bit more.

Bmwolf21 Posted December 20, 2008 Report Posted December 20, 2008 yeah--there is no one near Gretzkys talent in the league right now And the goalies aren't nearly as bad.
