[OT] Has there been a bigger ahole in the history of WNY than Tim Tielman?

Tielman once again proves that he is an obstructionist and not a preservationist. What a jerkoff!

..."Tim Tielman, of the Campaign for Greater Buffalo, has bigger issues with the updated waterfront master plan unveiled Sunday by the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corp. A staunch advocate for historical preservation on the waterfront, Tielman charges the updated plan does not adhere to federal court-mandated guidelines that govern a key section of Canal Side.

?They want to change historic street patterns, cover canals with glass domes and put up buildings that resemble a suburban Floridian strip plaza,? Tielman said. ?It doesn?t comply, and we won?t let it happen.

The preservation activist said he will make his case as the project works its way through the mandated environmental quality review process, which will weigh historical and cultural impacts of the project."

It's appears that Mr. Tielman is too busy looking to the past to have any concern about where this City is now and it's prospects for the future. We all have Tim Tielman types in out neighborhood. They are the ones that always have some sign on the front lawn trying to stop something. From moving the zoo to expanding Childrens Hospital to the building of the casino. It's sad those same people don't use their energy for more inportant issues facing the City like poverty, teen pregnancy, and violent crime. How about instead of raising money for lawyers and law suits they raise money to help put more policemen on the streets and help those who have hit hard times.

Didn't preservationists play a big role in the initial waterfront development that so many people seem to happy with? The initial Bass Pro plan was not a pretty one, if I recall. Donne Esmonde did some really good columns on this subject.

The recently completed waterfront is nice because it is on the water, not because people can look at rock foundations from years past. If he wanted to make it authentic and true to history, they'd have a house of ill repute alongside multiple sleazy bars. Now that would be huge tourist destination!

Not to nitpick, but Timothy McVeigh will need some better competition to be knocked off of his throne as biggest a-hole in WNY history.

Does J.P. Losman count? Seems like these days (and the last 5 years) he ahs been one of the most hated people in WNY

When you're the starting QB of the local NFL franchise and you suck people are bound to hate you. It's not as much about the individual as it is the position.

My initial thought was yeah. There's been no shortages of that commodity in Buffalo. But I hadn't thought of him. He does stand out.

David Stern/John Y. Brown/Paul Snyder were some candidates. Leon Czolgosz was another. John Rigas was the first to come to mind, though.

"How can we teach them to fish if they can't even fit into the Bass Pro? It needs to be at least 3 times bigger."

To quote Roby, that redevelopment model looks like a hound's breakfast. Are they really going to leave the Skyway up there?

How about the Lackawanna Six Terrorists??

Ya know as a kid riding down that during the day and seeing the lake was always cool and when Bethelem steel was dumping slag into the lake at night but other than that it's an eyesore.

I thought I had read they were going to eliminate it for the cost saving's of NOT having to maintain it. Whether it was for for re-development or not I can't recall.

Did they actually do anything outside of "providing material support to al-Qaeda?" I mean McVeigh was a traitor who killed 168 Americans - seems a little worse than whatever it was the Lackawanna Six did, since they were caught before they could actually commit an attack...

Maybe it's time for a caption contest.

The strange thing about Quinn taking pics of the model is that he is one of the big wigs on the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corp. Stop taking pics of it like it is the first time you've seen it and if by mistake you hadn't seen it before Sunday we are in bigger trouble than I thought!

On the glass half full side...all the time Quinny spends on this is less time he is pestering DR regarding hockey operations!

While I hate as LQ as part-owner/ and whatever else of the hockey team, he gets things done when it comes to big projects. He is largely responsible for the arena being built on time and within budget even if the Knoxes made some bad projections to get that building built.

To quote Roby, "blood sausage".

I know it doesn't at all apply to this, but still, how sickening does that sound?
